Canadiens' Jayden Struble: Remains in part-time role
Struble was scratched for the third game in a row in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Struble played in the first four games of January, racking up 12 hits and six PIM in a third-pairing role while filling in for David Savard while he battled an upper-body injury. Struble could still push Arber Xhekaj for a spot in the lineup, but neither blueliner offers much outside of physicality. For the season, Struble has five points, 53 hits, 25 blocked shots, 35 PIM and a minus-7 rating over 26 appearances.

Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Another day, another assist
Hutson recorded an assist, one shot on net, one block, one hit and two PIM in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Hutson's rising blast from the point was tipped in by Alex Newhook and gave Montreal the go-ahead goal midway through the third period. The helper gives him assists in six straight. During that stretch, the rookie blueliner has 10 points (nine assists), including two three-point efforts. His 36 points for the season leads all rookies and ranks tied for sixth overall among defensemen.

Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Logs helpers in win
Suzuki had two assists, one shot on net, one block and three hits in Thursday's 3-1 win over Dallas.
The first line combined to give Montreal its first goal after the Stars went up early in the first period. Suzuki and Cole Caufield helped on Juraj Slafkovsky's strike just 47 seconds after the Canadiens fell behind. Suzuki later had an assist on Joel Armia's empty-netter to seal the win. Montreal's captain, who has 10 points over the last eight outings, leads the team with 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists).

Canadiens' Cole Caufield: Hits scoresheet in win
Caufield had an assist, two shots on net and one block in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Caufield's pretty pass from behind the goal line set up Juraj Slafkovsky, who had a wide open net to tie the game at 1-1, just 47 seconds after Dallas took the lead. Caufield has been rolling with 13 points over the last 11 outings and has not gone more than one game without a point since Nov. 11, a stretch of 29 games.

Canadiens' Joel Armia: Seals win
Armia scored an empty-net goal in Thursday's 3-1 win over Dallas. He finished with two shots on net, one block and eight hits.
Montreal got goals from three of its lines while winning for the fifth time in the last six games. Armia's tally, his eighth of the season, was his first goal in eight outings. The new year hasn't been kind to him with just two points over the last eight outings.

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Tips in winner
Newhook scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars. He finished with one shot on net, one block, one hit and two PIM.
Newhook's high tip of a Lane Hutson shot attempt survived a video review and gave Montreal a 2-1 lead midway through the third period. The goal was his first in eight games and seventh through 44 outings. Montreal's second line has been productive of late with the combination of Newhook, Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach accounting for four tallies in the last three games.

Canadiens' Juraj Slafkovsky: Snaps goal drought
Slafkovsky scored a goal on three shots, blocked one shot and doled out three hits in Thursday's 3-1 win over Dallas.
A mere 47 seconds after Dallas took an early 1-0 lead, Slafkovsky knotted the game, finishing a pretty feed from Cole Caufield. The tally snapped a 10-game goal drought for the 20-year-old Slovak forward, who is well off the goal-scoring pace he set in 2023-24. Slafkovsky has five goals (8.2 shooting percentage) through 41 outings in 2024-25 after potting 20 (13.2 percent) in 82 games last season.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Wins again
Dobes stopped 32 of 33 shots in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Dobes let a juicy rebound escape that Jason Robertson put behind him early in the first period, but that was it. Falling behind is no longer the death sentence it used to be for the Canadiens, whose .833 point percentage since the NHL returned from its holiday break ranks second in the league. The lines have been resilient and goaltending elite (2.11 goals allowed per game), including the unflappable Dobes. Dallas poured it on the final two periods, outshooting the Canadiens, 26-13, but Dobes was impressive once again. He's won all four starts to begin his NHL career, and they haven't been cheapies. The rookie has taken down Florida, Colorado, Washington and now Dallas. The Habs have a back-to-back set at home this weekend with games Saturday (Maple Leafs) and Sunday (Rangers). Dobes should get one of those starts.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Facing Stars
Dobes will patrol the road crease in Dallas on Thursday.
Dobes is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 0.97 GAA and a .959 save percentage to begin his NHL career. The 23-year-old has won all three games on the road, including wins over Florida, Colorado and Washington, not exactly the pushovers of the NHL. He will have another tough test, as the Stars are tied for sixth in the NHL overall standings with 57 points, while averaging 3.21 goals per game this season, which ranks ninth in the league.

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Logs helper in win
Newhook notched an assist, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Newhook was initially questionable for this contest due to an illness, but he was able to play. He also snapped a six-game point drought while filling his usual second-line role, though he had just 13:37 of ice time. The 23-year-old forward has been inconsistent in 2024-25 with 10 points, 55 shots on net, 42 hits, 14 PIM and a minus-13 rating through 43 appearances.

Canadiens' Alexandre Carrier: Offers pair of assists
Carrier logged two assists and two blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Carrier has picked up seven helpers over 12 contests with the Canadiens, who are 9-2-1 since his arrival. The 28-year-old made a positive impact Tuesday, helping out on goals by Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach for his second multi-point effort in a Montreal sweater. Carrier is up to 14 points, 40 shots on net, 68 blocked shots, 44 hits and a minus-13 rating over 40 appearances this season when accounting for his time with Nashville. While his ice time is largely unchanged with Montreal, his productivity is up to a level that allows him to be a depth option in fantasy.

Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Trio of assists in win
Hutson notched three assists, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Hutson has a goal and eight assists during his five-game point streak, which includes a pair of three-point efforts. The 20-year-old picked up a helper in each period Tuesday, assisting on goals by Mike Matheson, Kirby Dach and Cole Caufield. For the season, Hutson is up to 35 points (14 on the power play), 49 shots on net, 56 blocked shots, 21 hits, 22 PIM and a minus-4 rating over 43 appearances. He looks like the real deal while occupying spots on the top pairing and first power-play unit, so fantasy managers shouldn't hesitate to roster him or have him in their active lineup.

Canadiens' Patrik Laine: Finds twine again
Laine scored a goal on three shots, added two PIM and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Laine's goal was his 10th of the season and his first to come at even strength -- the first nine were all on the power play. The 26-year-old winger is as dialed in as ever with 12 points through 15 appearances. He's added 43 shots on net and a minus-2 rating. His 23.3 shooting percentage will likely dip, but Laine has an elite shot and isn't afraid to pump pucks toward the net in high volumes, so his production should be fine.

Canadiens' Mike Matheson: Goal, assist in win
Matheson scored a goal on three shots, dished an assist, added two PIM, logged two hits and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
The goal was a dazzler for any player, let alone a defenseman. Matheson was able to convert on an end-to-end rush by himself to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period. The blueliner also helped out on Cole Caufield's third-period tally, which was the game-winner. The arrival of Lane Hutson has stolen some of Matheson's thunder, but he's still a capable all-around defenseman in his own right. For the season, the 30-year-old has three goals, 22 points, 82 shots on net, 85 blocked shots, 35 PIM and a minus-2 rating over 41 appearances. His tally Tuesday was his first since Nov. 30.

Canadiens' Cole Caufield: Keeps rolling with two points
Caufield scored a goal on three shots, added an assist and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Caufield has scored in seven of his last nine games while adding three assists in that span. More recently, he has three multi-point efforts over his last four contests. The 24-year-old winger was excellent throughout the first half of the campaign and is showing no signs of slowing down. He's at 24 goals -- four off his career high -- while adding 18 assists, 128 shots on net, 35 hits, 14 PIM and an even plus-minus rating over 43 appearances. This is likely to be a career year for Caufield as long as he stays healthy.

Canadiens' Kirby Dach: Scores twice Tuesday
Dach scored a pair of goals, added two PIM and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Dach gave the Canadiens their first lead with a goal at 18:34 of the second period. He also added an insurance tally late in the third. The 23-year-old has looked good lately with six goals and an assist over his last nine contests. For the season, the second-line center has eight goals, 16 points, 70 shots on net, 70 hits, 32 PIM and a minus-23 rating through 43 appearances, but it looks like his game has taken an upward turn in recent weeks.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Allows three goals in win
Montembeault stopped 22 of 25 shots in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Utah.
Montembeault has won four of his last six starts, though this wasn't the prettiest of efforts. He's allowed a total of 16 goals in that span while going 4-1-1. Overall, he improved to 16-15-3 with a 2.88 GAA and a .900 save percentage through 34 contests. Jakub Dobes has impressed in limited action, but Montembeault is still the Canadiens' top goalie. Montembeault is likely to get the nod Thursday in Dallas after making 35 saves in a 2-1 loss to the Stars in Montreal on Saturday.
