Top Red Wings News

  • Red Wings' James van Riemsdyk: Gathers helper Monday

Van Riemsdyk notched an assist in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Lightning.

Van Riemsdyk is in a 16-game goal drought, and he's logged just four assists in that span. The 36-year-old winger has maintained a steady spot on the fourth line, but the Red Wings' late collapse means he won't get back into the postseason. Van Riemsdyk has produced 15 goals, 16 assists, 98 shots on net and a minus-14 rating over 71 appearances this season.

  • Red Wings' David Perron: Goals in back-to-back games

Perron scored a goal Monday in a 4-3 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

Perron has scored in two straight games, but he has just three goals in 15 games since his arrival from Ottawa on March 5. He had previously played in Detroit from 2022-24 and was viewed as a veteran who could help get them to the postseason. The 37-year-old Perron's contract expires at the end of 2025-26. He may still have something in the tank -- he had 25 points in 49 games in Ottawa prior to the deal.

  • Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat: Post-Olympic production not enough

DeBrincat scored a goal Monday in a 4-3 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

DeBrincat's goal tied the game late in the third period and forced overtime. Linemate Patrick Kane stole the puck at the defensive blue line and they took off on a 2-on-0. He almost beat Andrei Vasilevskiy on a partial breakaway in overtime, right before the play turned and the Bolts scored the winner. DeBrincat turned his Team USA Olympic snub into a post-Games offensive outburst, but it wasn't enough to lift the Red Wings into the postseason. He has 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) over his last 23 games.

  • Red Wings' Marco Kasper: Rare goal in tough sophomore season

Kaspar scored a goal in a 4-3 overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Monday.

It was a backhander from the edge of the crease; it was his ninth snipe of the season (10 assists, 129 shots; 80 games). Kasper took a huge step backward in 2025-26. Last year, he had 19 goals, 18 assists and 145 shots. Kasper has one more year on his entry-level contract, and he will need to prove he can be the top-six pivot the team hoped they were drafting in 2022.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Loses in OT as contract nears end

Talbot made 18 saves on 22 shots Monday in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Lightning.

Talbot is 12-9-6 with a 3.10 GAA and .886 save percentage in 25 starts (33 appearances) this season. He's 43rd overall in GAA and 45th in save percentage. Talbot's contract expires at the end of the season, and at 38, his options are limited. Detroit's Sebastian Cossa has had a very strong season in Grand Rapids -- he's 26-8-4 with a 2.28 GAA and .917 save percentage, so the Red Wings are far more likely to elevate him than re-sign Talbot. The 2025-26 season was touted as his possible last year prior to Opening Night.

  • Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Hits 1,400-point milestone

Kane delivered an assist Monday in a 4-3 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

The assist gave Kane 1,400 NHL points (508 goals, 892 assists); he accomplished that in 1,368 career games. He's the fourth active player to that reach the 1,400-point milestone. Kane, who is 24th all-time in NHL scoring, joins Sidney Crosby (1,761; seventh all-time), Alex Ovechkin (1,686; 10th all-time) and Evgeni Malkin (1,407; 23rd all-time).

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Tending twine Monday

Talbot will start Monday's road game against the Lightning, per the NHL Media Site.

Talbot will look to earn his first win since March 2 after losing or drawing no result in each of his last six appearances. Overall, the 38-year-old netminder has a 12-9-5 record, a 3.07 GAA and an .888 save percentage across 32 outings this season. With the Red Wings eliminated from postseason contention, Monday's start has the potential to be Talbot's last outing of the season. He'll face off against an elite offense in Tampa Bay, which ranks fourth in the NHL with 3.50 goals per game.

  • Red Wings' Mason Appleton: Still out of lineup

Appleton (upper body) is not playing in Monday's road game against the Lightning, per the NHL media site.

Appleton has already missed five straight games, as he hasn't been in the lineup since April 2 in Philadelphia. Considering Detroit has been eliminated from postseason contention, it would not be surprising to see Appleton remain sidelined for the team's final game of 2025-26 against the Panthers on Wednesday.

  • Red Wings' Michael Brandsegg-Nygard: Up from AHL

Brandsegg-Nygard was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday under emergency conditions.

Brandsegg-Nygard has 20 goals and 44 points in 58 AHL outings this season. He also has one assist, 17 shots on net and 36 hits in 12 NHL appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Red Wings' Dylan Larkin: Dishes pair of assists in loss

Larkin notched two assists and four shots on goal in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

Larkin set up Justin Faulk's goal in the first period and also had a hand in Emmitt Finnie's tally in the third. During a four-game point streak, Larkin has four goals and five assists. The 29-year-old has been steady as ever in a top-line role with 34 goals, 67 points, 226 shots on net, 46 hits, 33 blocked shots, 48 PIM and a plus-5 rating over 73 appearances this season.

  • Red Wings' David Perron: Pots goal Saturday

Perron scored a goal on five shots, added three hits and went minus-3 in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

Perron has two goals over his last five games, but he hasn't been able to add much offense since he recovered from a groin injury. The 37-year-old is stuck in a middle-six role. He's produced 12 goals, 27 points, 89 shots on net, 89 hits, 40 PIM and a minus-7 rating over 63 appearances between the Red Wings and the Senators this season.

  • Red Wings' Justin Faulk: Tallies in Saturday's loss

Faulk scored a goal on three shots and blocked three shots in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

Faulk has three goals over the last three games. Despite his uptick in offense after a brief absence for a lower-body injury, the Red Wings' collapse was completed with Saturday's loss, ensuring they'll miss the playoffs for the 10th year in a row. Faulk has contributed 15 goals, 38 points, 116 shots on net, 132 blocked shots, 69 hits and a minus-6 rating over 76 outings between Detroit and St. Louis this season. Faulk is entering a contract year in 2026-27, so he should be highly motivated to be at his best in a top-four role next year.

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Two points in loss vs. NJD

Finnie recorded a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

This two-point performance snapped Finnie's 11-game goalless streak, and it also ended a three-game streak without a point. Considering he recorded only two points during the 11-game goal drought, it's clear that Finnie shouldn't carry a lot of fantasy appeal despite holding a top-six role. The 20-year-old should stay on waivers in the final days of the regular season, though he's a name to remember for the future, having posted 30 points in 80 games as a rookie.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Gives up four goals Saturday

Gibson stopped 28 of 32 shots in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils. The fifth goal Detroit allowed was an empty-netter with 60 seconds left in the game.

The Red Wings' playoff hopes were officially extinguished after Saturday's loss, and while Gibson isn't solely to blame for the poor run in recent games, he certainly has some culpability. He has lost three of his last four starts, going 1-2-1 with a 3.43 GAA and a subpar .881 save percentage in that span. It remains to be seen if he'll suit up for either of Detroit's final two games -- at Tampa Bay on Monday and at Florida on Wednesday.

  • Red Wings' Michal Postava: Reassigned to AHL

Postava was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday.

Postava was elevated from Grand Rapids on Friday as insurance for John Gibson (neck), but Gibson was fine to play Saturday versus the Devils. Postava will likely close out the season with the Griffins, who have been one of the best teams in the AHL all season. He'll compete with Sebastian Cossa for playing time in the AHL.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: In net Saturday

Gibson (neck) will protect the home net against New Jersey on Saturday, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

Gibson will return to the crease after leaving Thursday's 6-3 win over Philadelphia. He has earned a 29-20-4 record this season with a 2.64 GAA and a .904 save percentage across 55 appearances. Since the start of March, the Devils rank fourth in the league with 3.63 goals per game.
