  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Sitting Saturday

Gurriel (elbow) isn't in Arizona's lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies.

Gurriel was removed from Friday's game due to a sore left elbow, and it is seemingly bothering him enough to keep him from playing Saturday, though the D-backs don't believe his injury to be anything too serious. Jake McCarthy will slide over to left field while Gurriel recovers, allowing Randal Grichuk to start in right field while batting sixth.

  • Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Added to big-league roster

The Diamondbacks recalled Herrera from Triple-A Reno on Saturday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

A thumb injury forced Gabriel Moreno onto the 10-day injured list Saturday, so Herrera will join the active roster to give the D-backs some security behind the plate. The 27-year-old backstop has slashed .260/.351/.362 with 19 RBI in 149 plate appearances with Reno this season, and he figures to serve as the backup to Tucker Barnhart while Moreno is out.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Lands on IL

The Diamondbacks placed Moreno on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a sprained left thumb, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Moreno's X-rays came back negative after he exited Friday's game due to his injured thumb, but the damage seems to still be severe enough to warrant keeping him out for the next 10 days. While he recovers, Tucker Barnhart will take over as Arizona's primary catcher and Jose Herrera will come up from Triple-A Reno to provide additional depth at catcher.

  • Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Stolen base, run in win

Carroll went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 5-4 win over the Phillies. He was also hit by a pitch.

Carroll walked and stole a base ahead of Gabriel Moreno's home run in the third inning. The stolen base was Carroll's team-leading 14th, which is tied for 20th in MLB. As Carroll's reached base more frequently in the last two weeks, he's picked up his running pace. He's gotten on base at a .443 clip over the last 14 games and has attempted six steals during that stretch.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Fills in at second base

Alexander started at second base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 5-4 win over Philadelphia.

Alexander filled in for Ketel Marte for a second straight game -- Marte served as the designated hitter Thursday -- but the Diamondbacks have not indicated there's any issues with their primary second baseman. Since Arizona manager Torey Lovullo mentioned last week that Alexander would see more playing time, primarily at third base for the slumping Eugenio Suarez, the young infielder is 2-for-16 with a walk over five starts.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Avoids serious injury

Gurriel did not require an X-ray on his elbow following Friday's game against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Gurriel exited the contest in the seventh inning with elbow soreness, though manager Torey Lovullo said after the game that he doesn't anticipate that Gurriel will require a stint on the injured list. The outfielder's status for Saturday remains in question, however.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: X-rays come back clean

X-rays came back negative on Moreno's thumb following Friday's game against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Moreno hurt his thumb on a slide early in Friday's contest but remained in the game long enough to tally his third homer of the season. He was ultimately pulled in the sixth inning. Manager Torey Lovullo noted after the contest that Moreno is likely to avoid the injured list, but the team will see how he is feeling Saturday before any final determination is made.

Montgomery (6-4) earned the win against the Phillies on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings.

Montgomery tossed two scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run home run to Trea Turner in the third. He responded with three straight scoreless innings and left the game with a 4-2 lead after throwing 83 pitches. Montgomery earned his third consecutive win while registering his first quality start in June, but he has not reached 90 pitches in an outing since May 19. On the season, Montgomery owns a 5.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB over 63 innings and lines up to face the Twins next week.

Over his last 10 games, the veteran outfielder has gone 12-for-31 with three homers, 13 RBI and nine runs scored. Pederson only has eight at-bats against left-handed pitchers this season, but he is crushing righties to the tune of a .306/.398/.529 slash line with nine home runs, 33 RBI and 28 runs scored in 202 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Exits game with elbow soreness

Gurriel exited Friday's game against the Phillies due to left elbow soreness.

Gurriel appeared to have sustained the injury during his at-bat in the top of the seventh inning, per Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com. He's the second Arizona player to leave Friday's game, with catcher Gabriel Moreno leaving in the sixth inning due to a sprained left thumb. Before exiting, Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the second inning. He was replaced by Randal Grichuk, who came into the game in right field with Jake McCarthy shifting to left.
