Harry Ford has essentially been the exact same hitter in 104 games at Single-A in 2022 and in 118 games at High-A in 2023. He is very patient and has always gotten on base at a .400 clip or better. The 5-foot-10 backstop has averaged 13 home runs and 23.5 steals over the past two seasons, and considering he turns 21 in February, there could be a bit more power coming. It may be nothing, but it's worth noting that Ford had a .509 slugging percentage at the hitter-friendly park in Everett and a .349 slugging percentage in the rest of the Northwest League. His plus speed is a legitimate weapon on the bases, and it's a big part of what makes him desirable in dynasty leagues. Cal Raleigh has gotten so good that we now need to consider how Ford's playing time could be capped early in his big-league career. Raleigh's existence also makes it unlikely that Seattle would rush Ford to the big leagues.

  • Mariners' Harry Ford: Up to 15 steals at Double-A

    Ford is slashing .250/.381/.402 with five home runs, 15 stolen bases and a 20.6 percent strikeout rate in 54 games for Double-A Arkansas. Ford's numbers were a bit better across the board last year while he was playing in a hitter-friendly home park with High-A Everett, but he is now playing in Arkansas' pitcher-friendly home park. His 15 steals are tied with Blake Mitchell for the lead among all catching prospects, while his 21.9 percent hard-hit rate is a below-average mark. Ford's ultimate power output is to be determined, but his speed and command of the strike zone should allow for him to be an above-average fantasy catcher during his prime years.

  • Mariners' Harry Ford: Reassigned to minor-league camp

    Ford was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Mariners on Monday. Ford is an ultra-talented 20-year-old catcher considered by most to be the best prospect in the Mariners' system. He went 2-for-4 with three walks in seven plate appearances during Cactus League play while also slugging a couple home runs for Great Britain in the World Baseball Classic. Ford might not wind up sticking at catcher, but Seattle intends to continue grooming at the position for now.

    Ford appeared in 104 games for Single-A Modesto in 2022 and batted .274/.425/.438 with 11 home runs, 23 steals and an 88:115 BB:K. The 2021 first-rounder impressed all year with his plate discipline and baserunning, though he did fall a bit short in the power department. Ford started the season cold, hitting just .196 over his first 38 games, but from June 12 through the end of the campaign, he put up a sparkling .320/.459/.530 line. Look for the 19-year-old backstop to open next season with High-A Everett.

He opened the season ice cold, so Ford's season-long line still looks good but not great at .266/.412/.423. Nonetheless, the 19-year-old's recent production is far more reflective of the potential he brings to the table. With growing pop and good speed, Ford offers the promise of a tantalizing fantasy package at the catcher position. He's most likely a few years away, though, with his timeline depending on whether the Mariners remain inclined to keep him behind the plate.
