Hewitt finished the 2024 season with 59 tackles (31 solo), three pass breakups, including one interception, and two forced fumbles across 17 regular-season games. Hewitt made four starts while Azeez Al-Shaair missed time due to a knee injury and three-game suspension, and the former was also a stalwart on special teams for the Texans. The veteran linebacker's 59 tackles were his most since 2021. Turning 32 years old in April, Hewitt is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He's long been a dependable reserve linebacker more than capable of filling in as a starter while chasing down kickoffs and punts.... See More ... See Less

Texans' Neville Hewitt: Steps up after Al-Shaair ejection
Hewitt finished Sunday's 23-20 win over the Jaguars with nine tackles (five solo). Hewitt unexpectedly stepped into a larger role for the Texans' defense Sunday after Azeez Al-Shaair was ejected in the second quarter for his illegal hit on quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Hewitt ended up playing 49 defensive snaps and his nine tackles matched a season best from Week 7 against the Packers. With Al-Shaair suspended for three games, Hewitt should have the chance to take on a larger role for the Texans' defense, starting in Week 15 against the Dolphins on Sunday, Dec. 15.... See More ... Texans' Neville Hewitt: Tackle leader, pick in loss
Hewitt recorded a team-high nine tackles and had an interception in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Packers in Week 7. Hewitt filled in for the injured Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) and played 100 percent of the defensive snaps while also doing his part on special teams (six snaps). He made an impact immediately on the fourth play of the game, when he intercepted a Jordan Love pass near midfield and returned it 45 yards to set up Houston's first score. In a part-time role on defense (59 percent snap share) in Week 6, Hewitt had seven tackles after Al-Shaair was removed from the game.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Neville Hewitt: Season-high nine tackles vs. Pats
Hewitt logged nine tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 41-21 win over the Patriots. Hewitt filled in for Azeez Al-Shaair at outside linebacker after the latter injured his knee late in the first half of Sunday's game. Hewitt took advantage of the opportunity, and his nine combined tackles were his most since Week 15 of the 2021 season. Hewitt could start against the Packers in Week 7 if Al-Shaair is unable to overcome his knee injury.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Neville Hewitt: Back with Houston
The Texans re-signed Hewitt to a one-year contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Hewitt led the NFL in special-teams tackles last season while suiting up for 16 regular-season games. He played a career-high 358 snaps on special teams but just four defensive snaps, and as such holds little to no fantasy value in IDP formats.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Neville Hewitt: Ready for Week 3
Hewitt (illness) was not listed on the Texans' injury report Wednesday. Hewitt appears to be ready to go for Week 3 after he missed the team's 31-20 loss to the Colts on Sunday. The middle linebacker operated only as a special-teams option in Week 1 and he'll likely return to that role again versus Jacksonville this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Neville Hewitt: Remains out
Hewitt (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against Washington. Hewitt is slated to miss a third straight game due to a hamstring injury. He's seen only 23 defensive snaps across seven appearances, so his absence shouldn't have a major impact on Houston's defense.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Neville Hewitt: Ruled out for TNF
Hewitt (hamstring) won't play Thursday night against the Eagles. Hewitt failed to practice Wednesday and will consequently be held out on a short week. He's primarily made it onto the field as part of the special teams unit, totaling six tackles (five solo) through seven contests in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Finishes season with 134 tackles
Hewitt racked up seven solo tackles in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots and finishes the year with a team-high 134 tackles. Hewitt also picked up two sacks as the leader of New York's depleted linebacker corps while blowing his previous high of 75 tackles out of the water. The Jets will likely look to bring back the free agent this offseason to pair Hewitt with C.J. Mosley, who is expected to return after opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns. There's room for both players to start at inside linebacker in the Jets' 3-4 scheme.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Crosses 100-tackle threshold
Hewitt compiled 12 tackles (nine solo), a sack and a tackle for loss in Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Raiders. Hewitt was the Jets' leading tackler, as the team limited a Vegas running game that struggled without Josh Jacobs (ankle). The secondary didn't hold up its end of the bargain, however, surrendering three passing touchdowns to Derek Carr, including a 46-yarder to Henry Ruggs with five seconds to go. Hewitt has 103 tackles through 12 games and has chipped in a sack in each of the last two.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Climbs to career-best 85 tackles
Hewitt racked up 11 tackles (nine solo) and a tackle for loss in Sunday's 34-28 loss to the Chargers. Hewitt was one of three Jets defenders to record double-digit tackles as the Chargers dominated time of possession, joining Harvey Langi and Ashtyn Davis. The 27-year-old linebacker has already set a new career high with 85 tackles and still has six games left to build on that total, starting with a Week 12 tilt against Miami.... See More ... Jets' Neville Hewitt: Gets 10 tackles in loss
Hewitt recorded 10 tackles (four solo), a tackle for loss and a pass defensed in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Cardinals. Hewitt continues to rack up the tackles on a Jets defense that struggles to get off the field. He's up to 39 tackles through five games, putting Hewitt more than halfway to the career-high 75 he totaled last season.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Notches eight stops in loss
Hewitt posted eight tackles and a pass breakup in Sunday's 27-27 loss to the Bills. Hewitt played every defensive snap in Sunday's divisional loss, and with the Jets' linebacker corps banged up, Hewitt stepped up. He recorded eight or more tackles in just four of 12 games last season, but with Avery Williamson (hamstring) and Blake Cashman (groin) potentially missing Week 2's game versus the 49ers, Hewitt could log another full workload and be a valuable IDP presence.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Back with Jets
Hewitt re-signed with the Jets on Friday on a one-year, $2 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Hewitt will rejoin New York's linebacker corps, where he stands to kick off the 2020 campaign as a backup option behind C.J. Mosley (groin) and Avery Williamson (knee). With injury concerns still lingering around both interior starters, however, the 27-year-old could possess some upside as a stash in IDP formats.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Tallies five tackles
Hewitt had five solo tackles during Thursday's 42-21 loss to the Ravens. The Jets had minimal success slowing down QB Lamar Jackson and Baltimore's offense, which averaged 7.3 yards per play. Hewitt has been limited as an IDP option of late and is averaging 5.2 tackles despite missing only a handful of defensive snaps over the last five games.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Makes seven tackles in win
Hewitt recorded seven tackles (four solo) and a pass breakup in Sunday's 34-3 win over the Raiders. It was a second straight solid game for Hewitt. He has made 12 tackles (seven solo) to go with two pass breakups and an interception in two games since returning from a neck injury.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Suiting up Sunday
Hewitt (neck) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Redskins. Hewitt will take the field for the first time since Week 6 when he suffered a stinger. The fifth-year linebacker is expected to slot in at starting inside linebacker, and he has solid IDP aptitude with 37 tackles (23 solo), two sacks and two pass breakups through five contests.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Likely out for Week 9
Hewitt (neck) is not expected to suit up against the Dolphins on Sunday, Mike Clay of ESPN.com reports. Hewitt hasn't practiced in any capacity this week, so his lack of availability doesn't come as much of a surprise. With C.J. Mosley (groin) also out and Blake Cashman (shoulder) nursing a season-ending injury, James Burgess and Brandon Copeland are the likeliest candidates to start at inside linebacker.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Doubtful for Monday
Hewitt (neck) is listed as doubtful for Monday's game against the Patriots. Hewitt returned to last Sunday's win over the Cowboys after suffering the stinger, but he was unable to participate at practice this week. Blake Cashman enters Monday's game as the team's only fully healthy inside linebacker since C.J. Mosley (groin) is questionable and Albert McClellan (concussion) is out.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Neville Hewitt: Dealing with injury
Hewitt (stinger) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against Dallas, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. It's unclear how Hewitt got banged up, but it's serious enough to force him to miss game time. The injury occurred late in the second quarter, so it's likely that he'll receive more treatment at halftime and try to give it a go in the third quarter. In his stead, look for Albert McClellan to see an increase in snaps.... See More ... See Less
