Thompson (illness) did not play during Sunday's 120-87 preseason win over the Bucks.
Thompson has been recovering after undergoing treatment for a blood clot throughout the beginning of training camp, and although no official update was given ahead of game time, it comes as no surprise that he didn't play. Thompson's next opportunity to suit up will come Tuesday against the Suns.

Fontecchio will get the start with Tobias Harris (illness) out of the lineup. After a strong finish to the 2023-24 campaign, Fontecchio underwent surgery on his big toe and Sunday will mark his return to action.

Stewart is projected to come off the bench behind Jalen Duren while competing for playing time with Paul Reed. Stewart normally runs at the four-spot, but with Tobias Harris and Simone Fontecchio expected to play major roles with the club, Stewart will slide over to the center position. The 23-year-old played a large role in Detroit last season, during which he averaged 10.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.8 blocks across a career-high 30.9 minutes per game in 46 regular-season outings.

Pistons' Simone Fontecchio: Cleared to play
Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said Monday that Fontecchio (toe) will be ready for training camp, Coty M. Davis of The Detroit News reports.
Fontecchio underwent surgery on his left big toe in May and was always expected to be fully cleared before training camp. He had a terrific stint with the Pistons to end the 2023-24 campaign, posting averages of 15.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.9 steals in 30.2 minutes across 16 regular-season appearances.

Pistons' Ausar Thompson: Limited to start camp
Detroit president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said Monday that Thompson (illness) will be limited to open training camp, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Langdon said Thompson has been cleared for conditioning, strength training and non-contact drills, but the forward is still going through a medical process with the NBA's Players Association. Thompson's rookie season was cut short in March after undergoing treatment for a blood clot, and understandably, the Pistons and the NBA are taking every precaution. Expect more updates as the preseason progresses.

Pistons' Lamar Stevens: Heading to Detroit
Stevens agreed to a training camp contract with the Pistons on Thursday, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Stevens spent the 2023-24 season with the Celtics and Grizzlies, averaging 7.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 14.7 minutes per game over 38 regular-season appearances between the two clubs. He missed the final two games of the regular season due to a groin injury, but it seems unlikely the issue will hinder him during camp as he competes for a roster spot with the Pistons.

Smith and the Pistons agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract Wednesday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
Smith went undrafted in June after a standout career at Mississippi State. The forward averaged 14.4 points and 8.0 rebounds in 28.8 minutes during his time in college. He will join the Pistons for training camp, but he's likely going to end up in the G League with Motor City.
