The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
After being recalled from Sacramento on May 12, Matos operated as a near-everyday player during his three-plus-week stay with the Giants, but he moved to the bench Monday after Michael Conforto was reinstated from the IL. Though Matos rejoined the lineup Tuesday against Diamondbacks lefty Blake Walston, Matos will lose his spot, with the Giants bringing back another right-handed-hitting outfielder (Austin Slater) back onto the active roster for Wednesday's series finale in Arizona. Matos likely would have had a case for sticking around with the Giants if he had been performing well, but he had fallen into a 2-for-22 drought at the dish over his last six starts.
Matos went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI in Saturday's 14-4 victory over the Rockies.
Matos drove in a career-high five runs in Friday's series opener and then one-upped himself Saturday. He got the scoring going in this one with a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. The youngster then followed that with an RBI double in his next trip to the dish before capping off his night with a two-RBI single. Matos is just the fourth Giants player ever to notch consecutive five-RBI games, and he has tallied a whopping 17 RBI in seven contests since being recalled. While he had just a .661 OPS with the Giants last season and a .663 OPS this year at Triple-A Sacramento, Matos is a former top prospect who just turned 22 in January. At the very least, he's become a player who needs to be rostered in five-outfielder leagues.

Matos went 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI in Friday's 10-5 win over the Rockies.
Matos enjoyed one of the best games of his career, driving in at least one run with each of his hits. He added an RBI on a groundout in the seventh inning as well. The 22-year-old is hitting .333 (7-for-21) with 11 RBI and three extra-base hits over his first six contests this season. With Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) out for the year, Matos has a golden opportunity to claim a full-time major-league job if he can keep hitting well.

Matos did his damage early, taking Yoshinobu Yamamoto deep in the second inning. The homer was Matos' first hit over three games this season, and he's added four RBI and two runs scored. The outfielder was slashing a paltry .218/.309/.355 over 31 contests with Triple-A Sacramento prior to his call-up, but he'll have a chance to show what he can do in the majors while filling in for Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) in center field.

Matos is expected to see work in center field for the Giants after being called up Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Matos will be a top option to see a sizeable workload in center field in the absence of Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) according to manager Bob Melvin. The 22-year-old has produced an underwhelming .218 batting average with three homers, 17 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases over 31 games in Triple-A this season, but with Michael Conforto (hamstring), Jorge Soler (shoulder) and Austin Slater (concussion) all also banged up, he may see extended run in the outfield.

Matos was pulled from a game at Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday in case he's needed to replace Michael Conforto (hamstring) on the Giants' roster, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Conforto is dealing with a right hamstring strain and is set to undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury. Matos has spent virtually the entire season with Sacramento and has struggled, having come into play Saturday slashing .221/.312/.361 with three home runs and three steals. He and Heliot Ramos could be the top options in left field for San Francisco if Conforto misses time.

The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
For much of spring training, Matos looked to be in good position to win an Opening Day roster spot while Austin Slater (elbow) missed time, but Slater was cleared to make a start in the outfield earlier this week at the tail end of the Giants' exhibition schedule and ended up avoiding a stint on the injured list. As a result, Matos found himself as the odd man out for a roster berth and will now head to Sacramento, where he should play on an everyday basis.
