Player Outlook
Teoscar Hernandez was acquired by the Mariners from the Blue Jays last offseason to bolster the M's lineup for 2023, and he provided 26 homers and 93 RBI in 160 games during a contract year. However, his .740 OPS was the worst since his rookie campaign in 2016 as his strikeout rate rose nearly three points to 31.1 percent. Two hot months carried his production, as he hit .337 with 13 home runs during June and August while laboring to a .222 average in 432 at-bats the rest of the campaign. He especially struggled at T-Mobile Park with an 81 wRC+ compared to a 126 mark on the road, which could make Seattle hesitant to bring him back for 2024, either via a long-term deal or the franchise tag. Hernandez entered 2023 with 73 homers and an .852 OPS over the previous three seasons (324 games), and getting away from the pitcher's park in Seattle could help him return to that form in 2024.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Away from team Monday

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox while tending to a personal matter in the Dominican Republic, but he's expected to rejoin the Dodgers on Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. The Dodgers will play a man short in Monday's game versus the White Sox as Hernandez exits the lineup for the first time in 2024 following a stretch of 79 consecutive starts to open the season. Hernandez should be back in the lineup Tuesday, but fantasy managers will want to confirm as much prior to the 8:10 p.m. ET opening pitch for the second game of the Dodgers' series in Chicago.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Tallies three hits Thursday

Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run Thursday in a 5-3 win against Colorado. Hernandez departed in the seventh inning of Wednesday's matchup between the clubs, but manager Dave Roberts indicated afterward that the early exit was simply for rest reasons, and the outfielder's inclusion in Thursday's lineup seems to validate that claim. Hernandez certainly didn't appear bothered by any issues in the finale of the four-game set, as he recorded his fourth three-hit performance of the campaign. He's been swinging a hot bat over the past two weeks, slashing .321/.387/.732 with six homers, 16 RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base over his past 14 games.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Delivers go-ahead blast

Hernandez went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 11-9 win over the Rockies. Hernandez had gone six games without a homer after a stretch in which he went deep five times over five contests earlier in the month. He saved his best play for last Tuesday, putting the Dodgers ahead with a ninth-inning blast to complete the comeback win. The outfielder is up to 18 homers, 54 RBI, 41 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .255/.326/.503 slash line through 75 games this season. He's firmly on pace to top the 30-homer mark for just the second time in his career.

He now has five long balls and 12 RBI over his last five games and has totaled 10 hits over that span, raising his slash line to .266/336/.525 with 17 homers, 50 RBI, 40 runs scored and a 24:81 BB:K in 286 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Enjoys massive day at dish

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, a walk, six RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 11-3 rout of the Yankees. He added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the sixth before busting the game open for Los Angeles with a 424-foot grand slam in the eighth. Hernandez went just 2-for-16 over his first four games in June, but he's turned scorching hot since, going 7-for-13 with two homers and nine RBI across his past three contests. Hernandez is putting up big numbers in his first campaign with the Dodgers, slashing .262/.331/.500 with 15 homers, 47 RBI, 38 runs and four steals through 278 plate appearances.

His second knock came in the 11th inning, when he doubled to left field to plate Los Angeles' only two runs of the game. Hernandez has three RBI over his past two contests to move into the team lead with 41 RBI on the campaign.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Homers in three-hit game Thursday

Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and three total runs scored in an 11-7 victory versus the Pirates on Thursday. Hernandez broke a 4-4 tie with a solo blast in the fifth inning, and Los Angeles never trailed again. The long ball snapped a 10-game stretch without a homer for the veteran outfielder, and after a hot start to the season, he's gone deep just twice over his past 23 contests. However, Hernandez still ranks second on the Dodgers with 13 homers and 39 RBI overall.

Hernandez went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, an additional run, a double and two walks in Friday's loss to Cincinnati. Both of the outfielder's hits went for extra bases, and his ninth-inning solo homer was his first long ball in 12 games. Hernandez has been a strong addition to the Dodgers' high-octane offense, as he's tied for 10th in the league with 12 homers and ranks seventh with 38 RBI.

Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Saturday's win over the Padres. It marked the outfielder's 11th home run of the season and the fifth in his last eight games. He's now tied with Salvador Perez, Jose Ramirez and Juan Soto for second in the majors with 33 RBI on the season.

Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 5-1 win over Atlanta. Hernandez homered for the second time in three games and has tallied at least a hit in 10-of-12 games since April 23. The 31-year-old is slashing .252/.320/.468 with eight homers, 25 RBI, 23 runs and a 13:49 BB:K in 153 plate appearances. Hernandez is showing increased signs of power from a year ago but strikeouts still remain an issue. His 49 strikeouts are currently the fourth-most in baseball, as he's striking out 32 percent of the time.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Slugs homer in victory Friday

Hernandez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 extra-innings win against Atlanta. Offense was sparse for both teams until extra innings, and Hernandez's solo shot in the fourth held up as the decisive margin until Ronald Acuna tied the score with a solo shot of his own in the eighth. Hernandez's long ball was his seventh of the season -- he's tied with Shohei Ohtani for the team lead in that category and ranks third with 23 RBI. Hernandez has slugged at least 22 homers in every full campaign since 2018 and is well on pace to meet that mark again in his first season as a Dodger.

Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday in a 2-1 win over Washington. The long ball was the slugger's sixth of the campaign and his first over his past 11 contests. Hernandez has trailed off a bit of late after a strong start to his Dodgers tenure, but he still ranks second on the team and is tied for 11th in the majors with 20 RBI.

The long ball increased his RBI total on the campaign to 17, which ranks first in the majors. • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Four RBI, steal in defeat

Hernandez went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 9-7 loss to the Cubs. Hernandez opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out, two-run single off Kyle Hendricks. He'd drive in two more in the seventh off Julian Merryweather before swiping his first bag of the year. While he won't get the same fanfare as others in the Dodgers' star-studded lineup, Hernandez has gotten off to a fast start this year, going 12-for-40 with four home runs and 14 RBI through his first 10 games.

Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 8-3 win over the Giants. It was the fourth long ball in the past four games for the veteran outfielder, who is making a strong impression in his first campaign with the Dodgers. Hernandez ranks third in MLB with nine RBI and should continue to have plenty of run-producing opportunities throughout the campaign given LA's prolific offense.
