Player Outlook
Max Muncy continued to take the launch angle revolution to an extreme, but at least it paid off with tying his career best in homers and setting a new personal high with 105 RBI. Muncy's average exit velocity and hard-hit rate were around 80th percentile, but even with a 49.3 percent fly ball rate, Muncy collected only 17 doubles, resulting in a low .221 BABIP. As usual, Muncy walked at an elevated 14.7 percent clip, so he was still better suited for on-base and points leagues than standard 5x5 with batting average. The Dodgers extended Muncy's contract through 2025 with a club option for 2026, so they are clearly happy with his production and his skill set generally ages well. Buffer his batting average in standard leagues and like the Dodgers, you'll be happy with his three-category contributions. Just keep in mind for the first time in several drafts, Muncy does not have multiple-position eligibility; he's third base only to begin the campaign.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Dodgers shifted Muncy (oblique) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Muncy was placed on the 10-day IL on May 17 due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain. It took him nearly a month to begin taking dry swings, and he has otherwise been limited to fielding grounders and running the bases. As he's still not close to beginning a rehab assignment, the Dodgers opted to move Muncy to the 60-day IL, meaning he won't be eligible to return until after the All-Star break. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers activated Kyle Hurt (shoulder) from the 60-day IL and optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, per Harris.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not close to returning

Muncy (oblique) is at least a week away from swinging a bat and doesn't have a timeline for return, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Muncy's recovery from a right oblique strain has been unexpectedly slow, and he doesn't seem particularly close to returning. The 33-year-old hasn't swung a bat in a few weeks and won't be cleared for swings for at least another week. Cavan Biggio and Enrique Hernandez should handle most of the work at third base until Muncy returns.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Slow recovery progress

Muncy (oblique) said Tuesday on Foul Territory that he's "not progressing as fast" as he would like from his strained right oblique. Muncy's comments mesh with what manager Dave Roberts said over the weekend, which was that the third baseman is working on a "slow program." The 33-year-old recently progressed to taking dry swings and doing plyo-ball workouts, and he doesn't appear to be close to rejoining the Dodgers. Enrique Hernandez has been operating as Los Angeles' primary third baseman in the meantime and will likely continue to fill that role.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Taking dry swings

Muncy (oblique) has begun taking dry swings and doing plyo-ball workouts, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. This is a step forward for Muncy, as he had previously been unable to swing a bat at all after continuing to experience soreness in his oblique. However, manager Dave Roberts said last week that the third baseman is on a "slow program," so Muncy doesn't appear to be particularly close to a return. He hasn't played in a game since May 15 and will likely need to go on a rehab assignment before rejoining the big-league club.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not yet swinging

Muncy (oblique) said Sunday he's been shut down from swinging for the past 7-to-10 days after he felt a "twinge" around his rib cage, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. The 33-year-old landed on the injured list in mid-May with the oblique strain and doesn't appear to have made significant progress in his recovery. Per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, Muncy was able to field groundballs Sunday but is shut down from most baseball activities, so he's likely not particularly close to returning from the 10-day injured list.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Still not swinging

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Muncy is on a "slow program" due to lingering oblique soreness and isn't currently swinging a bat, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Muncy resumed baseball activities last Tuesday, but his progress has since been slowed by continued soreness in his oblique. The third baseman is already eligible to be activated off the IL, but given Roberts' comments, it doesn't seem like Muncy is on the cusp of returning. He'll almost certainly head out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to rejoining Los Angeles' lineup.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Return date uncertain

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Muncy is still feeling his oblique strain and will proceed cautiously, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Roberts had previously indicated that Muncy could start a rehab assignment soon with a potential return to the Dodgers coming next week, though he backed off on that statement Friday. The third baseman began doing some work in the field Tuesday, but Roberts indicated that Muncy won't progress to hitting off a tee until the team feels he's fully recovered. With that in mind, it seems unlikely that Muncy will be ready to return to the big club until at least early June.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Commences baseball activities

Muncy took some groundballs Tuesday as he started up baseball activities after his recent oblique strain, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. The Dodgers placed Muncy on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain. According to manager Dave Roberts, Muncy sustained the strain in batting practice prior to Thursday's game. Before hitting the injured list, the third baseman was slashing .223/.323/.475 with nine home runs and 28 RBI over 167 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Slugs another home run

Muncy went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Padres. Muncy took Yu Darvish deep to right in the fourth to put the Dodgers ahead 3-1 and the offense would be shut out the rest of the way. That's now three home runs in his last four games and he's also managed to not strike out in consecutive games for the first time this year. Muncy has punched out multiple times in 11-of-16 games to begin the year and holds a strikeout rate of 37 percent, as he looks to level out that number as the season progresses.
