  • Colts' Anthony Richardson: Will be ready for training camp

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Monday in an appearance on "The GM Shuffle with Michael Lombardi and Femi Abebefet" podcast that Richardson (shoulder) will "be full go" for training camp.

Richardson had rest days mixed into his on-field work during OTAs and mandatory minicamp as a result of shoulder soreness, but those bouts of fatigue don't seem to have represented an actual setback. Instead, the Colts are simply trying to take a cautious approach with Richardson as he recovers from October surgery on his right throwing shoulder. By the time training camp kicks off in late July, Richardson should be at full strength, but if he's still having to take days off at that time, it could represent more cause for concern. At full health, Richardson's combination of arm strength, size, and speed provide him with a tremendous fantasy ceiling, especially with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell joining Michael Pittman, Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.

  • Russell Wilson QB | PIT

Steelers' Russell Wilson: Remains in lead for starter gig

Wilson remains the clear favorite to start Week 1 under center for Pittsburgh and has made a good impression on his new coaching staff throughout OTAs and June minicamp, Chris Ward of SteelersNow.com reports.

Wilson has impressed with arm talent and leadership throughout spring activities, per Mark Kaboldy of The Athletic, and he's reportedly dominated first-team reps to this point. Justin Fields could push for more opportunities during training camp, but for the time being, there's been nothing to suggest any shift from coach Mike Tomlin's remark early in the offseason that Wilson is in the "pole position" to start Week 1 under center. Experience and consistency alone could make enough difference for Wilson, a 35-year-old veteran, to win the starting gig over Fields, but he'll face pressure to keep Pittsburgh in the playoff race, given that he's playing on only a one-year contract.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Makes progress learning offense

Mayfield made significant progress in picking up the intricacies of new coordinator Liam Coen's offense throughout the offseason, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. "There's a lot fewer mistakes and 'M.E.'s," said head coach Todd Bowles. "He has a lot more audibles on his plate than he did in the past and he's getting them down very [well]."

Bowles' comments came in the midst of the mandatory minicamp the Buccaneers held earlier in June, following a particularly productive penultimate practice of the offseason in which Mayfield spread the ball around effectively. Mayfield has had plenty of opportunity to progressively get a handle on the offensive system, as he was also part of 10 voluntary OTA practices before minicamp. While there figures to be some additional growing pains with the offense, there will be multiple weeks of training camp and preseason games for Mayfield and a top quartet of incumbent pass catchers in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Trey Palmer and Cade Otton to continue building chemistry within it.

  • Jayden Daniels QB | WAS

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Works with starters at minicamp

Daniels got most of the first-team reps at June minicamp, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.

Commanders WR Terry McLaurin, RB Austin Ekeler and head coach Dan Quinn all offered glowing praise during minicamp, mentioning Daniels' work ethic, leadership and understanding of Kliff Kingsbury's offense. Even so, Quinn hasn't determined a Week 1 starter and said the plan all along was for Daniels and Marcus Mariota to split first-team snaps during spring practices, per John Keim of ESPN.com. Reports from training camp in late July and early August should provide a better idea as to whether Daniels is truly competing with Mariota or is all but locked in for the Week 1 start at Tampa Bay.

  • Zach Wilson QB | DEN

Broncos' Zach Wilson: Struggles in spring practices

Wilson failed to impress at spring practices, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic.

Kosmider suggests Wilson seemed to have more trouble than rookie Bo Nix with the adjustment to coach Sean Payton's offense. While Wilson still has time to make an impression during training camp and the preseason, it sounds like he's currently positioned to be the No. 3 QB or even released. The Broncos acquired him in April for a late-round pick swap, trading down from No. 203 to 256 while taking on only half of Wilson's $5.5 million salary from the Jets.

  • Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Inks long-term deal

The Jaguars and Lawrence agreed to terms on a five-year, $275 million contract extension Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Lawrence's new deal includes $200 million guaranteed, including $142 million at signing, and the average annual value of $55 million matches Joe Burrow's NFL-leading mark. After Jacksonville extended the fifth-year opinion on Lawrence's rookie contract this spring, it was only a matter of time before the two sides reached an agreement to keep the first overall pick in the 2021 Draft in Duval for the foreseeable future. Through three pro campaigns, he's surpassed 4,000 yards twice while accumulating a 58:39 TD:INT in 50 regular-season games.

  • Taysom Hill QB | NO

    Saints' Taysom Hill: Restructures contract

Hill agreed to restructure his contract Tuesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

It's a simple restructure, converting 2024 base salary into a signing bonus to push some of his cap hit from the current season into future years. Early reports from training camp suggested new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was giving Hill more chances as a running back or fullback, but Hill could now see a lot of snaps at tight end following Thursday's announcement that Juwan Johnson will need foot surgery. The Saints hope Johnson will be ready by Week 1, but it sounds like that's far from a sure thing. Either way, it may be tough to get a good read on Hill's role under a new coordinator until the season is actually underway.

  • Sam Darnold QB | MIN

Vikings' Sam Darnold: Will head to camp as QB1

Darnold will be the first-team quarterback when Minnesota begins training camp in late July, ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert reports.

Darnold took all the first-team reps at June minicamp and reportedly looked sharper than 10th overall draft pick J.J. McCarthy. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Darnold will remain the top QB for the start of training camp, but O'Connell cautioned that it's one of the many positions at which he anticipates competition later this summer.

  • Josh Allen QB | BUF

Bills' Josh Allen: Tweaking throwing motion

Allen said Tuesday that he's working on improving his throwing motion this offseason, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Allen noted that the changes have felt really good at times and not so good at others. He injured his right shoulder Week 6 last season but still managed to play every game for a fifth straight year, and he confirmed in late January that he wouldn't need surgery. Some of what he's working on this offseason is returning to his pre-injury mechanics after the shoulder discomfort led to a lower, wider motion in 2023. The other big change will come in his receiving corps, with Khalil Shakir the only wideout on the roster that's ever caught a pass from Allen. The Bills parted ways with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason and brought in Curtis Samuel, second-round pick Keon Coleman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chase Claypool and Mack Hollins. Meanwhile, Allen and offensive coordinator Joe Brady will have continuity at running back (James Cook, Ty Johnson), tight end (Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox) and along the offensive line (four of five starters returning).

  • Joe Burrow QB | CIN

Bengals' Joe Burrow: Vague on status of wrist

Burrow (wrist) said Tuesday that he'll be ready for the start of the season but doesn't want to put a percentage on his rehab progress, Charlie Clifford of WLWT News 5 Cincinnati reports.

Burrow hinted at a more cautious approach with his surgically repaired right wrist than he had with past injuries, noting that he should have "taken more time" after he suffered a calf injury last summer. He averaged just 182 passing yards and 0.5 touchdowns over the first four weeks of the season, but he rebounded in a big way with averages of 296 yards and 2.4 touchdowns over the next five games before he suffered the season-ending wrist injury Week 11. He had surgery Nov. 27 to repair a torn ligament in his wrist, and by early May, he was cleared for everything besides taking contact. Burrow has been lifting weights for more than three months and throwing footballs for more than a month, but he doesn't sound like he'll push himself too hard this summer, at least not until training camp opens in late July.
