  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Solid second-half effort

Burrow completed 15 of 25 passes for 181 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 21-14 win over Cleveland. He added three rushes for minus-3 yards. Burrow and the Bengals' offense had nothing going in the first half, as he managed only 81 yards on 15 attempts while being sacked three times. While still far from prolific, he did manage a better second half, which was highlighted by touchdown throws of 18 and 25 yards to record his fifth multi-score performance in seven games this season. It is worth noting that Burrow has just 28 and 25 attempts in his last two matchups while playing from ahead, an indication that his production may be heavily dictated by game script moving forward.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Huge performance not enough Sunday

Burrow completed 30 of 39 passes for 392 yards and five touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 41-38 overtime loss to the Ravens. He added one rushing yard on two carries. The five TDs were a career high for Burrow, and most of his production went to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, who combined for a massive 19-276-4 line on 26 targets. Burrow has a dazzling 12:2 TD:INT over the last four games as the Bengals' offense has ramped back up to its peak form, but the team has only one win in that stretch to show for it. He'll try once again to out-chuck his atrocious defense in Week 6 against the Giants.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Efficient in first victory of 2024

Burrow completed 22 of 31 passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Panthers. He added one rush for 10 yards. Burrow led the Bengals to three touchdown drives in the first half, two of which he concluded with passing scores. The highlight came on a 63-yard touchdown to Ja'Marr Chase, who picked up the majority of his yardage after the catch. Burrow attempted only 12 passes in the second half due to game script, which ultimately limited his numbers. However, he now has multiple scores in each of his past three games and has topped 250 yards on two occasions in that span. Things will get trickier for him in a Week 5 divisional showdown with the Ravens.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: QBs to Start

Burrow has been shaky to start the season, but hopefully he's ready to take off in Week 3 against Washington. He only scored 8.1 Fantasy points in Week 1 against New England before improving in Week 2 with 21.2 points at Kansas City. Tee Higgins (hamstring) could return this week, and the matchup against Washington is fantastic. In two games, Baker Mayfield and Daniel Jones combined for 467 passing yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions against the Commanders. Burrow is a top-five quarterback this week.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Downplays concerns about wrist

Burrow said Wednesday that his surgically repaired wrist isn't affecting his ability to throw downfield, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Burrow downplayed any discussion of a problem after videos of him flexing his right wrist on the sideline made the rounds on social media after a Week 1 loss to the Patriots. He said he flexes his wrist "all the time", including at home, in order to keep the "joint loose" because "that's part of ligament injuries," Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. While the wrist will likely remain a topic of discussion if the Bengals offense continues struggling, Burrow is listed as a full participant on Wednesday's injury report ahead of a Week 2 game at Kansas City. Wideout Tee Higgins, on the other hand, missed another practice Wednesday with the hamstring injury that kept him out Week 1.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: In line to play Saturday

Burrow is on track to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Buccaneers, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports. While coach Zac Taylor wouldn't say how long Burrow is likely to play Saturday, the Bengals' franchise QB is poised to make his first game appearance since Nov. 16, when he suffered a season-ending wrist injury. Once Burrow gets his reps with fellow starters in versus Tampa Bay, look for some combo of Jake Browning, Logan Woodside and Rocky Lombardi to finish up the contest.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Fully cleared for contact

Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Burrow (wrist) has been cleared for full contact to begin training camp, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Burrow has spent the offseason cautiously managing his surgically repaired right wrist, and back in June he declined to put a specific percentage on his rehab process. Even if the Bengals still end up giving Burrow rest days during camp and/or the preseason, he's been cleared for all activities save contact since May, so this represents the last substantial step in his recovery ahead of Week 1. With Burrow at full strength, he and top wideouts Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins -- the latter of whom will play on the franchise tag for 2024 -- are well positioned to bounce back and lead what should be one of the league's best passing offenses. Cincinnati added a rookie third-round pick with 4.45 speed in Jermaine Burton during April's draft, plus TE Mike Gesicki in free agency, both of whom could help Burrow better threaten opposing defenses downfield. Burrow's YPA across 10 games in 2023 sat at a career-low 6.3, but he figures to improve on that mark in the 2024 campaign.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Vague on status of wrist

Burrow (wrist) said Tuesday that he'll be ready for the start of the season but doesn't want to put a percentage on his rehab progress, Charlie Clifford of WLWT News 5 Cincinnati reports. Burrow hinted at a more cautious approach with his surgically repaired right wrist than he had with past injuries, noting that he should have "taken more time" after he suffered a calf injury last summer. He averaged just 182 passing yards and 0.5 touchdowns over the first four weeks of the season, but he rebounded in a big way with averages of 296 yards and 2.4 touchdowns over the next five games before he suffered the season-ending wrist injury Week 11. He had surgery Nov. 27 to repair a torn ligament in his wrist, and by early May, he was cleared for everything besides taking contact. Burrow has been lifting weights for more than three months and throwing footballs for more than a month, but he doesn't sound like he'll push himself too hard this summer, at least not until training camp opens in late July.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Continues to progress

Burrow (wrist), who has resumed throwing, indicated Tuesday that he's fully cleared to do everything that doesn't involve contact, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Burrow, who is bouncing back from a procedure to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, started throwing again in April, noting that at this stage his focus is on mechanics like his footwork and arm path, as well as the "little intricacies of the throwing motion." While it remains to be seen when he'll be cleared for contact, Ben Baby of ESPN relays that the Bengals' franchise signal-caller feels as though he's "in a good spot" in his recovery process, and there's nothing to suggest that Burrow won't be ready to go well ahead of Week 1.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Throwing at minicamp

Burrow (wrist) was on the field throwing at the Bengals' facility Monday. Burrow's season ended 27 snaps into Week 11 last season, after which he required surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right (throwing) wrist. Earlier in the offseason, he stated that he expected to be fully cleared by mid-May, and it appears he's on track. Burrow should be all systems go well in time for training camp later this summer. His weaponry has gone a bit of an overhaul, with Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd and Irv Smith jettisoned. Veterans Zack Moss and Mike Gesicki were signed as free agents to go along with returnees Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Facing changes on offense

Burrow (wrist) is slated to enter the 2024 season with a revamped skill-position group, with Joe Mixon set to be traded to the Texans, Zack Moss inking a two-year deal as his replacement, and numerous shifts in the receiving game, Ben Baby of ESPN reports. Burrow will have to cope with more than just a new-look backfield, though it remains to be seen whether Moss can adequately fill Mixon's shoes, even after he proved so productive filling in for Jonathan Taylor at the start of last season. Tyler Boyd is currently a free agent, while explosive tight end Mike Gesicki is poised to ink a one-year deal with the Bengals, giving Burrow a replacement target in the middle of the field. Perhaps most important, though, is the fact that Tee Higgins has requested a trade, as Jared Goffinet of Fox 19 Cincinnati reports. That situation may not resolve in the near future, and further changes on offense could still occur in free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft, but in any scenario, Ja'Marr Chase will remain the pillar of this receiving game. For his part, Burrow is expected to be cleared for full contact by mid-May, as he continues his recovery from Nov. 27 surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Should be cleared in May

Burrow (wrist) said Sunday that he expects to be "cleared for full contact and everything" by mid-May, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Burrow also said he's able to lift weights "basically normally now" and has started throwing small medicine balls as part of his rehab. The QB had surgery Nov. 27 to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, 11 days after suffering the injury in a Week 11 loss at Baltimore. Prior to that, Burrow had found his groove with multiple TD passes in five straight games, bouncing back strong after throwing just two TDs over the first four weeks of the season while dealing with a lingering calf injury from training camp. He anticipates being ready for his normal throwing routine at OTAs, though it sounds like he'll take it slow until then.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Anticipates throwing by OTAs

Burrow (wrist) said Monday that he thinks he will be cleared to resume throwing during OTAs this spring, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports. Burrow underwent season-ending surgery on his right wrist shortly after Thanksgiving Day and missed the final seven games of the 2023 campaign, finishing the season with 2,309 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions on a 66.9 percent completion rate. He should be fully recovered well ahead of training camp next summer.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Struggles with turnovers Sunday

Burrow completed 27 of 40 passes for 347 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and added five carries for 20 yards in the Bengals' 30-27 loss to the Texans on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Cincinnati. Burrow finished the afternoon with a perfectly acceptable fantasy stat line, but his pair of fourth-quarter interceptions were particularly detrimental despite neither directly leading to Texans points. His first pick came at Houston's 11-yard line, while the second transpired in the end zone and short-circuited what had been an encouraging seven-play, 78-yard drive. Burrow's highlights did include a picturesque 64-yard touchdown strike to Ja'Marr Chase, which was preceded by a 32-yard scoring toss to Trenton Irwin to cap off Cincinnati's opening possession. Burrow may not have Tee Higgins (hamstring) back for a critical Week 11 divisional road clash against the Ravens on Thursday night, but he'll head into the contest with two- and five-game streaks of 300-yard tallies and multi-touchdown efforts, respectively.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: QBs to Start

I don't think you have to fear starting Burrow against the 49ers this week, and he remains a top-10 Fantasy option for me in Week 8. His calf injury is hopefully behind him, and he is averaging 23.6 Fantasy points in his past two outings against the Cardinals and Seahawks. San Francisco allowed Kirk Cousins to pass for 378 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 7, and Burrow is rested coming off a bye week. He scored 34.7 Fantasy points after his bye in 2022 at Pittsburgh in Week 11, and hopefully he can have another strong outing in this matchup with the 49ers.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: QBs to Start

I wrote in Start 'Em & Sit 'Em last week that I needed to see Burrow look like Burrow again before we could start him with confidence. Well, he's back, and hopefully the best is yet to come. Burrow lit up the Cardinals for 317 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Week 5, with all three scores going to Ja'Marr Chase. For the first time this season, Burrow didn't seem to be bothered by the calf he originally injured at the beginning of training camp, and he should have another quality outing against Seattle on Sunday. Two of the past three quarterbacks to face the Seahawks (Jared Goff and Andy Dalton) have scored at least 27.5 Fantasy points.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Sneaky Sleeper (Lineup Decisions)

Look, if there's a matchup Burrow could piece together a decent stat line in, this would be it. Or Denver. Or Chicago. You get the gist. The Cardinals pass rush shouldn't be too dangerous and Burrow, now over a month into his season, figures to eventually show some signs of improvement with his health. In no way is he a must start, and there's plenty of good reason to go with Trevor Lawrence, Russell Wilson, C.J. Stroud and even Joshua Dobbs over him, but there's some mild appeal that should at least keep him in lineups over Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: QBs to Sit

At some point, hopefully, Burrow is going to look like a standout Fantasy quarterback again, but right now he's struggling with his calf injury. He's scored 8.2 Fantasy points or less in three of four games this season, including two in a row, and he might not have a healthy Tee Higgins (ribs) in Week 5 at Arizona. I hope I'm wrong by putting Burrow in this section of the column, and the Cardinals have allowed two of the past three opposing quarterbacks to score at least 23.2 Fantasy points. But until we see Burrow look like Burrow, I'm going to lean toward sitting him in most one-quarterback leagues.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: No designation for Week 4

Burrow (calf) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game in Tennessee. Listed as questionable ahead of the Bengals' Week 3 game against the Rams after aggravating a calf injury late in the team's Week 2 loss to the Ravens, Burrow ultimately suited up and played 100 percent of the offensive snaps in the 19-16 win over Los Angeles, completing 26 of 49 pass attempts for 259 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Though the Bengals are facing a shorter turnaround for their Week 4 game against the Titans, Burrow nonetheless appears to be in a better spot on the health front. In addition to avoiding an injury designation for Sunday's contest, Burrow was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday through Friday.

  • Bengals' Joe Burrow: Sit Him (Lineup Decisions)

The Bengals have an interesting dilemma: They haven't been able to dominate with the run much this season, and now they face a matchup where they'll almost certainly have to throw a lot. The good news is that Tennessee just hasn't been good against the pass and, against these receivers, could be burned by broken coverage if they play a lot of man. I wouldn't expect a big game from Burrow, but he could still find 225 yards and two touchdowns, which sounds like next to nothing considering the investment Fantasy managers made in him. I'd rather play a QB with upside including Russell Wilson, Anthony Richardson, Daniel Jones and even Justin Fields.
