• Lions' Frank Ragnow: Announces surprise retirement

  Ragnow announced his decision to retire from the NFL on Monday via his personal Instagram account. Ragnow's statement reads, in part: "I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don't. I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life." The 29-year-old has remained one of the NFL's best centers despite battling injuries in recent seasons, and coming off three consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns his retirement comes both as a shock and as a notable blow for one of the NFC's best offenses. Ragnow's announcement comes just days after news of his holding out from voluntary workouts due to dissatisfaction with his current contract, per Christian Booher of SI.com. Starting guards Tate Ratledge and Graham Glasgow both have experience at center, so Detroit could rely on one of them to take over for Ragnow while asking 2024 sixth-rounder Christian Mahogany to step into a larger interior role after a solid rookie campaign.

Ragnow's full practice estimation Wednesday is an indication that the 28-year-old offensive lineman is past the pectoral injury that held him out of the Lions' Week 4 win over the Seahawks. Now that Ragnow is at full health once again, he's expected to serve as Detroit's top center.

  Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Ragnow (pectoral) was back at practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Ragnow sat out of Detroit's contest in Week 4 with a pectoral issue before the Lions' Week 5 bye, but it now appears he may be on track to return to the field for Week 6. The Lions' first official practice report of the week Wednesday should give a better indication of Ragnow's status.

  Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Thursday that Ragnow (pectoral) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Seahawks, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Ragnow, who is tending to a partial pec tear, will sit out the Week 4 game and then benefit from a Week 5 bye, potentially allowing him to return to the field Week 6 versus the Cowboys on Oct. 13. Graham Glasgow will likely slide over from left guard to start at center until Ragnow is ready to go. Ragnow is a pillar of the Lions' offensive line, so the team should prioritize his long-term health above all else.

• Lions' Frank Ragnow: Status for Monday up in the air

  Ragnow (calf/toe) is doubtful for Monday's contest against the Raiders, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Head coach Dan Campbell noted Saturday that it's "hard to say" whether Ragnow will be able to play or not, but the coach did say that the "good news" was that the center has an additional day to recover because the Lions play Monday night. Birkett notes that Detroit has been giving Ragnow one day off of practice per week to rest a toe injury he has dealt with since the 2021 season. If Ragnow is unable to suit up Monday, Graham Glasgow -- who has started at both guard positions this season -- is expected to shift to center while Kayode Awosika would start at left guard.
