  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Homer powers victory

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBI in Friday's 6-2 win over Atlanta. Ramirez knocked out his 11th home run of the season, a big three-run home run that proved to be all the Marlins would need to win the game. The rookie has been excellent in his debut campaign while splitting time between catcher and designated hitter, slashing .239/.290/.458 in his 201 at-bats. The hits have come in bunches for the 23-year-old lately -- he has five multi-hit games over his last 13 contests, but only 13 total hits over that same timeframe -- so the next step will be finding a way to develop more consistency.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Smacks two solo homers

Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs and an additional run scored in Friday's 11-9 win over the Nationals. Ramirez -- who went 0-for-18 with five strikeouts in his four games prior to Friday -- wasted no time getting the Marlins on the board with a solo homer in the first inning, and the 23-year-old backstop followed that up with another solo shot in the fourth. Ramirez is up to 10 home runs this season, which leads all rookies and is tied with Shea Langeliers (oblique) for fifth most among catchers.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Getting rest day

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. With first pitch Sunday set for 12:10 p.m. EDT, Ramirez will get a breather after starting at either catcher or designated hitter in 18 straight contests. Liam Hicks will handle catching duties, and Heriberto Hernandez will serve as Miami's DH.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Slugs eighth homer

Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Rays. The rookie backstop took Zack Littell deep in the fourth inning to get the Marlins on the board. While Ramirez has slowed down at the plate since a blistering start to his career, he's avoided any prolonged slumps -- the 23-year-old hasn't gone more than two straight games without a hit since the beginning of May, slashing .244/.308/.429 over his last 30 contests with five of his eight homers and 14 of his 19 RBI.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Monster performance in win

Ramirez went 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-8 win over the Padres. Ramirez launched a solo home run in the third inning and later ignited the Marlins' comeback with a two-run single in the eighth that put them ahead 9-8. It was a career day for the rookie, as he set personal bests with four RBI and four hits. On the season, he's slashing an impressive .262/.318/.525 with seven homers, 17 RBI, 17 runs scored, and one stolen base across 132 plate appearances.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Getting day off Monday

Ramirez is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Dodgers. Ramirez had been in the lineup for each of the previous nine tilts but will get a breather in Monday's series opener. Three of his last four starts have come at designated hitter, and he could be used as more of a DH moving forward with the Marlins carrying two other catchers on the roster in Liam Hicks and Nick Fortes. Fortes is behind the dish for Monday's game, while Connor Norby is in the DH slot.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Stays hot Tuesday

Ramirez went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Reds. Ramirez once again sparked Miami's offense, this time with a pair of doubles. He was also caught stealing and has attempted a stolen base in each of his first two MLB appearances. The rookie catcher could provide valuable speed at his position; Ramirez stole 53 bases in 63 attempts over his minor-league career, including 22 in 24 attempts last season. He is 5-for-6 with three doubles in his first two big-league games.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Two hits in debut

Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Monday's win over the Reds. Ramirez singled in his first career MLB at-bat and came around to score during the second inning. His first extra-base knock was a ground-rule double in the seventh. Ramirez got the start behind the plate and his batterymate, Max Meyer, fired six shutout frames with 14 punchouts. Ramirez is one of the team's top prospects and is already building a strong case for regular playing time.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Joining big-league roster

Ramirez is expected to be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Ramirez will make his major-league debut Monday versus the Reds, joining the Marlins roster after batting .258 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and five stolen bases over 66 at-bats in 18 games at Triple-A. The catcher will likely compete with Liam Hicks for work behind the plate moving forward with Nick Fortes (oblique) currently unavailable with a Grade 1 left oblique strain.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Sent to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Ramirez to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Ramirez faced an uphill battle to make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, and as expected he'll begin the 2025 regular season in Triple-A. He was acquired by the Marlins from the Yankees in the Jazz Chisholm trade in late July, slashing .270/.368/.364 for Jacksonville with four home runs and 20 RBI across 125 plate appearances. Ramirez made a good impression during camp, and a strong start in Triple-A could see him jump to the major-league roster at some point during the 2025 campaign.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Goes yard Thursday

Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. Liam Hicks got the start at catcher for Miami, but Ramirez's first long ball of the spring still came against a reliever with a good chance of breaking camp on Atlanta's 26-man roster in Angel Perdomo. Ramirez is expected to begin the campaign back at Triple-A Jacksonville, where he slashed .270/.368/.461 in 39 games last season after being acquired from the Yankees in the Jazz Chisholm trade, but Nick Fortes (groin) has been banged up early in camp and offers very little with his bat even when he's healthy. If Ramirez has a quick start to the year in Jacksonville, he should make his big-league debut this summer, and a more serious injury for Fortes could accelerate that timeline even further.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Showing tools this spring

Ramirez continues to work on his defense in an effort to stick as a catcher when he reaches the major leagues, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Acquired from the Yankees in last year's Jazz Chisholm trade, Ramirez's bat has never been in question -- Wednesday, he posted an exit velocity of 115.1 mph, the sixth-fastest hit recorded by any player this spring and a mark topped among 2024 MLB catchers by only William Contreras -- but the 23-year-old still has work to do on his pitch framing, blocking and release time on base-stealing attempts. Ramirez showed up early to camp to try and improve in all those areas, however, and his work ethic has been noticed by the Marlins' coaching staff. "We've been hammering all of it," catching coach Joe Singley said this week. "I think he's super talented, and there's a lot of low hanging fruit there. We're getting him in positions where he can let that athleticism go, slightly adjusting some things to help him block the ball and receive it without having to think about it too much. Just clearing up some positions for him to be an athlete." Ramirez is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Jacksonville, but if Nick Fortes' back issues linger into Opening Day, it could open up a spot for the organization's top catching prospect to make his MLB debut.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Dealt to Miami

The Yankees acquired Ramirez and infielders Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez from the Marlins on Saturday in exchange for Jazz Chisholm, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Ramirez is viewed as the headliner of the Marlins' three-player return package. The 22-year-old catcher slashed .224/.328/.364 with four home runs and five stolen bases in 125 plate appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since getting promoted from Double-A Somerset in June. With Austin Wells, Jose Trevino and Carlos Narvaez ahead of him on the organizational catching depth chart in New York, Ramirez wasn't on track to make his MLB debut in the near future, but the move to Miami could expedite his arrival to the big leagues. Nick Fortes and Ali Sanchez have been sharing catching duties for the Marlins, but both have OPSes under .500 for the season.

  • Yankees' Agustin Ramirez: Joins 40-man

The Yankees selected Ramirez to their 40-man roster Tuesday. After starting the season in Single-A, Ramirez hit his way up to Double-A Somerset, where his bat cooled down significantly to end the year. The 22-year-old Ramirez is now the sixth catcher on the Yankees' 40-man roster.
