Gelof went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Royals on Thursday. Gelof temporarily tied the score with his two-run shot off Seth Lugo in the seventh inning. After a slow start to the season, the second baseman has perked up with the bat of late, going deep in each of his past three contests and driving in seven runs across his past four games. Gelof's strikeout woes have continued over that span, though, as he's fanned eight times to push his strikeout rate on the season up to an ugly 34.7 percent.... See More ... See Less

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homers again in win
Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Royals. Gelof has homered in back-to-back games and has hit four of his seven long balls this year in June. The second baseman has gone 8-for-29 (.276) over his last eight contests. For the season, he's at a .196/.250/.348 slash line with 19 RBI, 21 runs scored and eight stolen bases, though hitting at or near the bottom of a weak lineup is unlikely to do any favors for his counting stats.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Fills box score Tuesday
Gelof went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, one stolen base and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Royals. Gelof took Alec Marsh deep in the fourth inning to provide the Athletics with enough offense to weather the Royals' comeback attempt. This was Gelof's third multi-hit effort in his last seven games, though the homer was his first since June 5. The second baseman is starting to put together better at-bats, but he's still at a .195/.250/.335 slash line with six homers, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 54 contests this season.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: On bench for matinee
Gelof is not in the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Twins. Gelof will get an extended breather of sorts, having also sat out Saturday, but he will likely be back in there to face Chris Paddack in the nightcap. After breaking out to the tune of an .841 OPS, 14 homers and 14 steals in just 69 games last season, Gelof has struggled to a .558 OPS, five homers and seven steals through 52 games in 2024.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Sitting Saturday
Gelof is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Twins. Gelof will take a seat after going 0-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Abraham Toro will slide over to second base while J.D. Davis enters the lineup at the hot corner, batting sixth versus Minnesota.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Timely double in loss
Gelof went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday. Gelof's eighth-inning two-bagger brought home Seth Brown to extend the Athletics' lead to 4-2 at the time. The infielder now has a trio of two-hit efforts in the last seven games, but his 33.3 percent strikeout rate in that same span is emblematic of the persistent struggles that have led to his .194 average and .572 OPS across 203 plate appearances this season.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Getting first true off day
Gelof is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Gelof has started in all 47 games he's been healthy this season but will step out of the starting nine Sunday after going 0-for-9 with four strikeouts in his past four contests. Aledmys Diaz will handle the keystone and bat eighth in the series finale versus Toronto.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homer, steal in win
Gelof went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners. Gelof's bat is coming around -- he's 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and three doubles during his six-game hitting streak. Prior to the streak, he went just 7-for-51 (.137) across his first 14 games back from an oblique injury. Gelof is slashing just .193/.254/.331 on the year, adding five homers, six steals, 13 RBI and 18 runs scored over 44 contests, but he'll get every chance to continue starting at second base for a team that has struggled to be competitive.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Provides lone run
Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 3-1 loss to Atlanta. Gelof put up the A's only tally Sunday, swatting a game-tying homer off Dylan Lee in the seventh inning. The long ball was Gelof's fourth of the season, and his first since April 22. The second baseman finished the three-game series with Atlanta 3-for-11 (.273) with three extra-base hits, two RBI and three runs.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Returns from injured list
Gelof (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Tuesday against the Astros. The 24-year-old has been sidelined nearly three weeks by an oblique strain and is back with Oakland after a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. Gelof had a slow start to the campaign with a .597 OPS through 24 games but should operate as the Athletics' primary second baseman now that he's healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Activation appears imminent
Gelof (oblique) rejoined the Athletics on Monday and could be activated from the 10-day injured list during their four-game series in Houston, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Gelof played consecutive full rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and Sunday, which was the last box he needed to check before returning to the big club. The Athletics seem content to give Gelof a rest day Monday before likely activating him ahead of Tuesday's contests. Gelof has been out since late April with a strained left oblique.... See More ... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Cleared for rehab assignment
Gelof (oblique) will join Triple-A Las Vegas this weekend to begin a rehab assignment, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Gelof has missed the last two weeks with a strained left oblique but has been upping his baseball activities in recent days and was spotted running the bases earlier Wednesday, per Gallegos. Because the young infielder hasn't missed much time, he shouldn't need too many at-bats in the minors before being activated from the 10-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Takes light swings in cage
Gelof (oblique) has progressed to taking light swings in the batting cage, but he remains without a firm timetable for return, MLB.com reports. It's been an eventful last few days on the recovery front for Gelof, who resumed some baseball activities by fielding grounders and playing catch Wednesday and then threw across the infield before the Athletics' game Friday. The progression to picking up a bat is another step in the right direction, but the team remains committed to not sending Gelof out on a rehab assignment prematurely due to the risk of aggravating the injury.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Begins baseball activities
Gelof (oblique) fielded grounders and played catch Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Gelof was shut down for about a week after landing on the 10-day injured list last Thursday with a strained left oblique, but he's now been cleared to begin baseball activities. Hitting will be the biggest hurdle for him to clear, and it's uncertain when he might be ready to swing a bat. Gelof is eligible to return from the IL on May 15, but it's too soon to know whether he might be back by that date.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Shut down from activity
Gelof (oblique) is currently shut down from baseball activity, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Gelof was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained left oblique, but he appears to be on track to miss more than the minimum amount of days. The 24-year-old will likely need to ramp his activity over a series of days before he could ultimately be activated. In the meantime, Max Schuemann will likely continue to handle the lion's share of work at second base with Oakland in Gelof's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Placed on injured list
The Athletics placed Gelof on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained left oblique. Gelof's injury caused him to be a late scratch from Oakland's lineup ahead of Wednesday's game, and it will now officially cost him at least another week and a half. The 24-year-old second baseman hadn't missed a start prior to Wednesday, though he's failed to make the most of his playing time, slashing just .196/.260/.337 with seven RBI across his first 101 plate appearances. Darell Hernaiz was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Swats second homer
Gelof went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers. Gelof's eighth-inning solo shot didn't have much of an impact on the final score, but it extended his on-base streak to six games and marked his second homer over his past three contests. The second baseman is 6-for-14 with five RBI over that three-game span, as he appears to be turning things around following a slow start to the campaign. Prior to the the offensive spurt, Gelof began the season batting .156 with no homers or RBI and a 5:13 BB:K across his first 32 at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Sparks offense Saturday
Gelof went 0-for-1 with three walks, three runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Tigers. It was an impressive display of patience from the 24-year-old second baseman, who managed an 8.7 percent walk rate as a rookie in 2023 but routinely posted marks in double digits in the minors. Gelof has struggled so far this season when he's had to swing the bat, however, going 5-for-32 (.156) with 13 strikeouts to balance out his five free passes, while chipping in two doubles, two steals and five runs.... Athletics' Zack Gelof: Registers 11th steal
Gelof went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Padres. Gelof recorded his first game this month with just one hit -- he had seven multi-hit efforts and five hitless games to begin September. His power has taken a dip this month with six doubles and one home run over 13 contests, and this was his second steal in that span. Gelof is at a .268/.335/.516 slash line with 11 homers, 11 steals, 25 RBI and 33 runs scored through 54 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Reaches double-digit steal mark
Gelof went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in an extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays on Monday. Gelof's third multi-hit effort in the last four games included his 10th stolen base in the first 11 attempts of his career. The rookie's pair of knocks Monday were both singles, but Gelof has impressively laced more than half (25) of his 48 hits thus far for extra bases, making him an extremely well-rounded fantasy contributor right from the onset of his career....
