Player Outlook
Brandon Marsh took steps forward in several areas during his first full season in Philadelphia, going from a player who posted a .248/.303/.374 line (88 wRC+) over his first two seasons to one who hit .277/.372/.458 (125 wRC+). His 30.5 percent strikeout rate remains a notable weakness, but it also represents a big step forward from the 34.5 percent mark he carried into last season. Marsh has enough other tools between his glove, legs and above-average power (9.1 percent barrel rate) that all he needs to do is keep his strikeouts tolerable and he could be a productive player for a long time, though fantasy players might be hoping for a little more category juice. Despite that good barrel rate and his 82nd-percentile sprint speed, Marsh managed only a modest 12 homers and 10 steals. His opportunities against lefties dried up in the second half, limiting him to 472 plate appearances and hurting his counting stats. Marsh's career .591 OPS against lefties may continue to limit him to a platoon role going forward, especially due to the emergence of Johan Rojas.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Activated from injured list

The Phillies activated Marsh (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Marsh wound up missing just under two weeks of action with a right hamstring strain. He was cleared to return after going 4-for-8 with one walk in two rehab games with Double-A Reading. Marsh has slashed .265/.344/.426 with six homers and eight steals for the Phillies this season.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Could return Saturday

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Friday that it's a "possibility" Marsh (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Marsh will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Reading on Friday, and it sounds like that could be the only rehab game he needs. The outfielder has been sidelined since early June with a strained right hamstring.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Starting rehab assignment

Marsh (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Reading on Thursday. Marsh has been working out with Reading in recent days and is ready to test out his strained right hamstring in a game setting. The outfielder shouldn't require too many rehab games before being activated since he just landed on the 10-day injured list June 3. A return early next week at the start of the Phillies' homestand seems like a sensible target for Marsh.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Rehab games coming soon

Marsh (hamstring) is working out with Double-A Reading and is expected to appear in games with the affiliate this week, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Marsh was placed on the IL on June 3 with a mild strain in his right hamstring and now appears on the verge of a rehab assignment. The outfielder likely won't be able to return when he's first eligible Thursday, but he should be back with the Phillies within the next week or two.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Hamstring strain 'very mild'

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Marsh, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday is dealing with a "very mild" right hamstring strain, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Marsh strained the hamstring late in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. While the Phillies aren't putting an official timeline on Marsh's return from the IL, he appears to have a shot to make it back when he's first eligible June 13, or close to it. David Dahl was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move and will start in left field in Marsh's place in Monday's game against the Brewers.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Goes on IL with hamstring strain

The Phillies placed Marsh on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hamstring strain. Marsh was lifted in the eighth inning of Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals with a right hamstring strain, and though the severity of the injury isn't fully known, the Phillies quickly ascertained that the outfielder was dealing with more than a day-to-day concern. Philadelphia called up David Dahl and Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to give the club two additional healthy options in the outfield in the interim, and Whit Merrifield or Cristian Pache could also be in line to pick up more reps in left field while Marsh is on the shelf. Pache and Merrifield had already been seeing starts in left field this season as short-side platoon mates for the lefty-hitting Marsh.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Exits early with hamstring injury

Marsh was removed in the bottom of the eighth inning of Sunday's contest against the Cardinals due to a right hamstring strain, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored prior to exiting the game. Marsh recorded a single off reliever Andrew Kittredge to open the bottom of the eighth, but he left the game after advancing to second base on a hit by Nick Castellanos. The outfielder will likely undergo additional testing on his leg, and a trip to the injured list could be on the table.
