  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Acquired by Yankees

The Yankees acquired Davis and cash considerations from the Athletics on Sunday in exchange for Jordan Groshans.

After seeing his playing time steadily decrease, Davis was DFA'd by the Athletics on June 17. With the trade Sunday, it marks the third organization Davis has been with this season if you include him being with the Giants in March. He appeared in 39 games for the Athletics before being designated for assignment, slashing .236/.304/.366 with four home runs and five RBI over 135 plate appearances. To make room for Davis on the 40-man roster, right-hander Nick Burdi (hip) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: On base three times in loss

Davis went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run during a loss to the Twins in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

Davis drew an increasingly rare start at third base and delivered his first multi-hit effort since May 24. The veteran has been displaced from the starting nine more often than not since late May, logging a total of just 17 plate appearances across six games since the calendar flipped to June. Davis is capable of playing both corner infield spots in addition to serving as the designated hitter, but younger assets Tyler Soderstrom, Abraham Toro and Brent Rooker are currently the preferred options at those respective positions.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Designated for assignment

Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Davis will now be available to be claimed off waivers and if he has no takers, Oakland is expected to release the 31-year-old. After being released by the Giants in March, Davis compiled a .236 average with four home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored over 123 at-bats in 39 games with the Athletics this season.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Sitting again Friday

Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh in the series opener.
