Draft Scouting Report

Rating: 80
Pro Comparison: Jonathan Kuminga
Summary

Thiero is a wing whose combination of athleticism and explosiveness is arguably unmatched by any other prospect in this draft. Both of his parents played basketball at a high level — his father at Memphis, his mother for the Mali national team. He’s just a reliable jumpshot away from possibly really turning into something special.

About
  • Led Arkansas in scoring at 15.1 ppg last season.
  • Named 2022 Pennsylvania Class 4A Player of the Year
Strengths
  • Frame: Thiero has a great body and 7-foot wingspan, point being he definitely looks the part.
  • Athleticism: Thiero is arguably the best athlete in the draft — one who gets off of the floor quickly and attacks the rim violently.
  • Defense: Thiero’s size and athleticism allows him to be a great on-ball defender who can handle switches and guard bigger or smaller players.
Weaknesses
  • General skills: For all of the athleticism, there are real questions about how much actual basketball-skill Thiero possesses.
  • Shooting: If SEC opponents routinely left Thiero open on 3-point attempts because they never believed he could make them, NBA teams will definitely do the same until he proves otherwise.
  • Passing: Thiero averaged 1.2 assists and 1.1 turnovers per game in three years of college, which illustrates how every pass, infrequent as they were, was nearly as likely to lead to a turnover as it was a made basket.
Combine Data
  • Wingspan: 7 feet, 0 inches
  • Standing reach: 8 feet, 8.5 inches
