  • Ravens' Keaton Mitchell: Not close to returning

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that Mitchell (knee) is "right on schedule" but "isn't close enough yet to talk about," Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

In other words, the Ravens never expected Mitchell to contribute in the first half of the season, hoping instead to get him back later in the campaign. He suffered an ACL tear Week 15 last season and apparently will remain on the PUP list for at least a few more weeks. Harbaugh said that the team expects Mitchell to play at some point in 2024.

  • Ravens' Keaton Mitchell: Out first four games, at least

The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Mitchell is working his way back from a torn left ACL, and while his placement on the reserve/PUP list only officially rules him out for the first four games of the season, the second-year pro may not be to ready to retake the field until November. In any case, Derrick Henry is positioned to work as the clear No. 1 backfield option for Baltimore, while Justice Hill remains in town to handle pass-catching work. Rookie fifth-round pick Rasheen Ali (concussion) could work as the No. 3 man as long as Mitchell remains sidelined.

  • Ravens' Keaton Mitchell: Staying on PUP list

Mitchell (knee) will remain on the PUP list to start the regular season, ruling him out for at least four games, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

It's not surprising given the lack of updates on Mitchell's progress since he was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp. He suffered an ACL tear in Week 15 of last season, ending an impressive run of performances in which he'd emerged as Baltimore's best backfield threat despite being an undrafted rookie. The team has since signed Derrick Henry and still has Justice Hill for passing downs, but Mitchell's speed could make him useful in a change-of-pace role at some point Week 5 or later this year.
