Player Outlook
The track record for late Round 1 QBs is far from encouraging, but most have at least received an opportunity to prove themselves on an NFL field. Dart's collegiate data profile suggests that he might find success if given playing time. His passing profile looks stellar, with a caveat that Lane Kiffin's scheme probably boosts efficiency in a significant way. Dart's rushing is the overlooked factor -- he was used a ton as a designed rusher, and he averaged more yards per run on a higher number of career scrambles than Jalen Milroe. Among QBs selected in Rounds 1-3 since 2017, Dart ranked 10th in yards per scramble, just behind Justin Fields. He rushed for over 1,500 career yards, and his avoided tackle rate and yards after contact per rush were both above Josh Allen's career rates. As a rookie, he'll be paired with Allen's former coach Brian Daboll. Dart will open the season as either the second or third-string QB on the Giants and is not worth anything more than a bench stash in Superflex/two-QB formats.

  • Giants' Jaxson Dart: Working as QB2 in OTAs

Dart has typically been the second quarterback to mix in for the Giants at OTAs, behind Russell Wilson and ahead of Jameis Winston, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Wilson is the clear starter, having taken all but a few first-team reps thus far, while Dart and Winston have been splitting second-team opportunities. Dart has shown impressive touch on his throws, but the rookie 25th overall pick is likely to begin his career in a backup role. The Giants could turn to Dart if they fall out of contention or Wilson struggles, and the team's difficult early schedule raises the likelihood of those scenarios.

  • Giants' Jaxson Dart: Nabbed by Giants at 25

The Giants selected Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 25th overall. The Giants traded back into the first round from their 34th selection, working with Houston at the 25th spot to make Dart the team's second selection of the first round. Quarterback remained a need for the Giants following the third-overall selection of edge defender Abdul Carter, and in theory the acquisition of Dart addresses that concern. Dart (6-foot-2, 223 pounds) was a very successful starter at Mississippi and logged some quality off-the-bench starts for USC as a true freshman before that, and now the Giants will hope he can provide an upgrade over the veteran duo of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Dart offers more rushing ability than most quarterbacks and showed the ability to make some good throws in college, but Dart probably needs to do a better job of executing a play design through its conclusion -- in college he probably dropped his eyes and looked to run a little too easily. If Dart can harness his mobility and accuracy in a more refined form of himself then he could prove to be worth this selection.
