  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Clubs leadoff homer in win

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win versus the White Sox.

The Dodgers' designated hitter crushed Chris Flexen's fifth pitch of the game 376 feet for a leadoff homer. Ohtani has now batted atop the order eight consecutive games while hitting .419 (13-for-31) with five homers, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored. The Japanese superstar may be on his way to a third MVP campaign as he's slashing .318/.395/.626 with 24 homers, 63 runs scored, 60 RBI and 16 steals over 356 plate appearances this season.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Plays catch from 90 feet

Ohtani (elbow) played catch from 90 feet Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Ohtani is throwing from 90 feet for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last September. He continues to progress in his rehab with no issues, and he's certainly shown no ill effects at the plate as a result of his ongoing recovery from the elbow issue. The Dodgers haven't ruled out the possibility of Ohtani playing the outfield at some point in 2024, though that still seems like a long shot. He will continue to serve as the club's designated hitter, with an eye on resuming two-way duties in 2025.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Demolishes 23rd homer

Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Angels while also drawing a walk.

Ohtani jumped on a hanging slider from Zach Plesac in the third inning and launched it 459 feet into the stands in right-center field for his 23rd home run of the season. The superstar slugger has now homered in three consecutive games and has collected at least one RBI in seven straight. Over that latter stretch, he's batting .481 (13-for-27) with six homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Goes deep again Friday

Ohtani went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and two walks in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

The Dodgers only had seven total baserunners in the contest, and the hitters behind Ohtani in the order went a combined 0-for-16. He has logged multiple hits in five of his last six games, and he's swatted five homers with 11 RBI in that span. The superstar is up to a .322/.398/.628 slash line with 22 long balls, 55 RBI, 60 runs scored and 16 stolen bases on 18 attempts through 75 games this year.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Swats homer No. 21

Ohtani went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Thursday's 5-3 win against the Rockies.

Ohtani began the game with a solo shot to center field for the seventh leadoff home run of his career. The superstar slugger has racked up four homers over his past five contests and has notched nine RBI during that span. Ohtani leads the National League and ranks third in MLB with 21 home runs overall this season.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Homers in Tuesday's win

Ohtani went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 11-9 win over the Rockies.

Ohtani batted leadoff for the second game in a row, and it looks like that'll be his spot as long as Mookie Betts (wrist) is unavailable. While Betts' absence is a big one for the Dodgers, Ohtani should be plenty capable of filling in atop the order, given his excellent batting skills and his noticeable speed. The 29-year-old has multiple hits in four of his last five games, and he's up to a .316/.388/.608 slash line through 325 plate appearances this season. Ohtani has added 20 homers, 49 RBI, 57 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, 20 doubles and two triples. His RBI numbers may dip, but that should be offset by a slight uptick in crossing the plate himself.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Racks up three hits from atop order

Ohtani went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk Monday in a 9-5 victory versus the Rockies.

With Mookie Betts (hand) set to miss several weeks, Ohtani could see most of his work out of the leadoff spot -- he's now slotted in there for both games that Betts has missed so far this season. Ohtani certainly possesses qualities of a leadoff man with a .314 average, .388 OBP and 16 thefts on the campaign, though his power far exceeds what is usually expected from a batter in that role. Ohtani could lose some RBI opportunities with Betts not hitting ahead of him for the foreseeable future, but the Japanese superstar is more than capable of knocking himself in and should continue to get opportunities to score with Will Smith and Freddie Freeman batting behind him.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Moves into leadoff spot sans Betts

Ohtani will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Monday's game in Colorado.

In the Dodgers' first game without Mookie Betts (hand), Ohtani slides up one spot in the order and will be followed by Will Smith, who moves from cleanup to the two hole. Ohtani also hit leadoff once back on May 18 when Betts had a day off. It's the only two times this season that he hasn't hit second.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Clobbers pair of homers

Ohtani went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs during Sunday's 3-0 win over the Royals.

Ohtani teed off on Brady Singer, tagging the Royals' starter for solo homers in the third and sixth innings for Ohtani's second multi-homer game of 2024. The 29-year-old is now up to 19 home runs on the season, tied for fourth-most in MLB. Ohtani owns a .976 OPS through 278 plate appearances and is the only player in baseball with at least 15 homers and stolen bases.
