Contreras isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. Contreras will get a day to regroup Sunday after posting a .494 OPS through 18 games since the start of June. Gary Sanchez will fill in at catcher and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' William Contreras: Back in lineup Tuesday
Contreras (head) is serving as the Brewers' designated hitter and batting second Tuesday against the Angels. Contreras had to sit out Monday's contest after he was hit in the head during a play at the plate Sunday. He now seems to be in good enough shape to play again, though it will be Gary Sanchez behind the dish catching for Tobias Myers. Contreras still holds a .305 batting average on the season, but he has struggled to find consistent success recently, slashing just .232/.246/.321 since the start of June.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Available off bench
Contreras (head) is available to pinch-hit or enter the game defensively off the bench Monday versus the Angels, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Contreras will be forced to miss his second contest of the season after taking a shot to the head while applying the tag at home plate to finish Sunday's 5-4 win over the Reds, but manager Pat Murphy said Monday that the catcher "is going to be fine." Contreras appears to have avoided any significant injury, which is music to the ears of fantasy managers who have reaped the benefits of his stellar play in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Not starting Monday
Contreras (head) is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. Contreras was evaluated for concussion following Sunday's 5-4 win over the Reds after his head collided with Stuart Fairchild on a tag at home plate in the ninth inning. With Contreras out for the series opener Monday, Gary Sanchez will start behind home plate and bat eighth against Halos right-hander Jose Soriano.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Being evaluated for concussion
Contreras is being evaluated for a concussion following Sunday's 5-4 win over the Reds, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Contreras took a shot to the head when he collided with Stuart Fairchild at home plate, applying the tag for the final out of the contest. The catcher was slow to get up, and he'll now undergo some additional testing to determine the severity of the injury. The Brewers will start a three-game series on the road against the Angels on Monday. If Contreras is forced to miss any action, Gary Sanchez would likely take over behind the plate.... See More ... Brewers' William Contreras: Receiving first day off
Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers. The 26-year-old was scheduled to sit last weekend but convinced his way back into the lineup, so it's possible the Brewers make another late lineup change. For now, Contreras is set to be on the bench for the first time this season after making 64 straight starts to begin 2024. He's struggled early in June with a .492 OPS through seven contests and is homerless in his past 60 at-bats, so it's a good time for some extra rest. Gary Sanchez will work behind the plate and bat fifth Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Late addition to lineup
Contreras is starting behind the plate and batting second Sunday against the White Sox. The 26-year-old catcher was scheduled to receive his first day off of the season Sunday, but he apparently convinced manager Pat Murphy to continue the starting streak. Contreras has gone 6-for-25 with no extra-base hits over the past six games versus the Cubs and White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: First day off in 2024
Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Contreras started Milwaukee's first 58 games of the season (47 at catcher, 11 at designated hitter), but he'll receive a well-deserved day off Sunday versus Chicago. He's been an MVP candidate early in 2024 with eight homers, 44 RBI, 48 runs, four steals and a .322/.394/.498 slash line. Gary Sanchez is working behind the plate Sunday for the Brewers.... Brewers' William Contreras: Belts big three-run blast
Contreras went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Saturday in a 4-2 victory versus Houston. Contreras provided the biggest hit of the game with a three-run, fourth-inning homer that broke a 1-1 tie and sent Justin Verlander to the showers. The long ball was the backstop's second in his past three games and extended his current on-base streak to 25 contests. During that stretch, Contreras is batting .347 with three homers, 17 RBI, 22 runs, two stolen bases and a 14:16 BB:K.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Drives in four
Contreras went 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple and four total RBI in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Pirates. Contreras got Milwaukee on the board with a three-run, opposite-field blast off Martin Perez in the third inning before tacking on a fourth RBI with a triple in the sixth, his first three-bagger this season. While Contreras had gone 18 games without a home run, he's now recorded at least one hit in nine straight contests, going 17-for-36 (.472) in that span. The 26-year-old catcher is now slashing a robust .359/.434/.553 with six homers, 34 RBI, 39 runs scored and three stolen bases through 196 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Scores three times in win
Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored in Friday's win over the Cardinals. Contreras was the offensive catalyst for the Brewers on Friday night as he crossed the plate a team-high three times. He also collected his third multi-walk game of the season as part of a fantastic start to 2024. The 26-year-old catcher is slashing .340/.420/.520 with five homers, 30 RBI and 35 runs scored over 174 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Goes yard, scores three times
Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, three runs scored and a stolen base while also drawing a walk in Thursday's win over the Pirates. Contreras launched a solo homer off Mitch Keller in the top of the first inning to give Milwaukee an early lead and came around to score the team's third run on a Rhys Hoskins single in the third. He then added a single in the fifth frame before going on to steal his second base of the season. The catcher scored three runs in the contest, a mark he's hit three times already this season, while also recording multiple hits for the second consecutive game. Contreras is batting .373 (31-for-83) in April with five homers, 20 RBI and 21 runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Continues hot start
Contreras went 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI in Saturday's 12-5 win at St. Louis. The 26-year-old drove in both of Milwaukee's runs during Friday's 2-1 victory, and he led the offense with three hits Saturday. It's already the 10th multi-hit game of the season for Contreras, who ranks first in the National League with a .372 average and is also third in RBI (20) and fifth in runs scored (18).... Brewers' William Contreras: Erupts with five RBI
Contreras went 4-for-5 with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 12-4 win over the Mariners. One day after receiving his Silver Slugger Award, Contreras hit his first and second home runs of the season to help him achieve a career-best five RBI in one game. All four of his hits had an exit velocity of 104 mph or higher, as he's seeing the ball very well to start the year. Contreras his now slashing .387/.444/.677 with a 1.121 OPS through 36 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Doubles twice in win
Contreras went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mets. Contreras also struck out twice and has already whiffed five times through 14 plate appearances after striking out at a 20.6 percent clip last season, but he's been productive the past two games with five hits. The 26-year-old tied for eighth in MLB last season with 38 doubles, and his pair of two-baggers Sunday were his first of the young campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Shines in spring game
Contreras went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's exhibition contest. Contreras had been a bit quiet after homering in his first appearance of the spring, but he made all kinds of noise Tuesday and now owns a .976 OPS through 10 spring games. The Brewers brought in fellow backstop Gary Sanchez over the offseason, but he will likely see most of his action at the designated hitter spot while Contreras handles the bulk of the starts behind the plate.... Brewers' William Contreras: Leads charge in comeback win
Contreras went 1-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Cardinals. After the Brewers fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, Contreras sparked the comeback by taking Drew Rom deep in the third. The 25-year-old backstop has hit safely in seven straight games and 12 of the last 13 as Milwaukee tries to lock up the NL Central title, slashing .314/.400/.451 over the latter stretch with two homers, three steals, eight RBI and 10 runs.... Brewers' William Contreras: Steps out of lineup Sunday
Contreras is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Texas. Contreras went 4-for-10 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs in the first two games of the series versus the Rangers, but he'll receive a well-deserved day off for the finale after making 36 straight starts. Victor Caratini will take over behind the plate and bat seventh Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' William Contreras: Scorching July continues
Contreras went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Phillies. He also contributed defensively, throwing out Bryson Stott attempting to steal second base in the ninth inning to help squelch Philadelphia's last-gasp rally. Contreras has been on fire at the plate in July, producing eight multi-hit performances in 12 games and slashing .412/.436/.627 with five doubles, two homers, seven runs and nine RBI.... See More ... Brewers' William Contreras: Resting Saturday
Contreras will sit Saturday against the Pirates. Contreras finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games, which follows a stretch in which he started seven out of eight games behind the plate. His OPS has trended down each month this season, going from .779 in April to .746 in May and finally .710 in June, though producing in line with that latter mark for the rest of the season would still be perfectly acceptable for a backstop. Victor Caratini starts behind the plate Saturday.... See More ... See Less
