  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Taking seat Wednesday

Goodman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Goodman is on the bench Wednesday, but he seems to have settled into a near-everyday role of late while moving between designated hitter and catcher. He had started in nine of the Rockies' previous 10 games, going 10-for-37 with five home runs, one double, 10 RBI and seven runs over that stretch.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Getting regular at-bats

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Friday against the Nationals.

Goodman was in the lineup for the sixth time in the last seven games -- three of which have come at catcher -- due to the absences of Elias Diaz (calf) and Charlie Blackmon (hamstring). He's gone 7-for-25 in that span while also popping four homers. Neither Blackmon nor Diaz have a clear timeline to return, meaning Goodman should continue to play regularly in the short term, perhaps even enough behind the plate to gain catcher eligibility.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Moving back to bench Wednesday

Goodman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Goodman started each of the last four games -- two at designated hitter, two at catcher -- and went 6-for-17 with three home runs and one double, but he hasn't quite seized hold of an everyday role just yet. Jacob Stallings remains the Rockies' No. 1 catcher while Elias Diaz (calf) is on the shelf, and Charlie Blackmon and Elehuris Montero are also expected to factor into the mix at DH until Kris Bryant (oblique) returns from the injured list. Goodman may need to turn in a few more quality performances at the plate in his subsequent starts before the Rockies make him a fixture in the lineup.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Swats another homer

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Monday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Goodman made his second straight start at DH and belted a two-run blast in the ninth inning. The 24-year-old slugged two homers two days earlier while making a start at catcher. Goodman is still slashing just .195/.235/.455 of the season, but he's shown promising power with five long balls over 81 plate appearances. He'd become much more intriguing from a fantasy perspective if he logs enough games behind the plate to earn positional eligibility there.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Huge day at plate

Goodman went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, five RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 16-4 win over the Pirates.

Goodman got the party started with a 440-foot solo shot off Jared Jones to lead off the bottom of the third and added an RBI double in the following frame. The utility man, who drew the start at catcher on Saturday, then topped off his monster day at the plate by crushing a two-run homer in the seventh and an RBI groundout in the eighth. He finished with season highs in hits (four), RBI (five) and runs scored (three) after coming into the contest on an 0-for-14 skid to open the month of June. It also marked the first two-homer game of Goodman's career.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Starting at catcher Saturday

Goodman will catch and bat eighth Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Goodman will draw the start behind the plate Saturday in a role he's expected to split with Jacob Stallings for the duration of Elias Diaz's (calf) absence. Goodman is slashing .156/.206/.313 with two home runs in 68 plate appearances this season.
