Player Outlook
Jordan Westburg was one of a host of top young prospects to see action with the Orioles in 2023, receiving a promotion in late June. His playing time with the American League East champs was sporadic, as he wound up starting 53 of 86 games (62 percent). Westburg did start seven of the final 10 regular-season contests and all three games of the Orioles' ALDS loss to the Rangers, so his playing time was trending up late in the year and he should be in line for regular starts in 2024. The 25-year-old popped 27 homers in the minors in 2022 and 18 in 67 games with Triple-A Norfolk in 2023 before his promotion, but he managed just three long balls in 68 games with Baltimore while dealing with the cavernous left field at Camden Yards. Westburg's average exit velocity (90.2 mph) and hard-hit rate (44.5 percent) were good, and his sprint speed (88th percentile) was better. The plate discipline, though, needs work.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Goes deep again

Westburg went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Astros. The Orioles' offense went from hot to cold in a hurry -- Westburg's home runs in back-to-back games are their only scoring plays in those contests. The infielder is still warm, going 16-for-57 (.280) over his last 14 games with four homers, four doubles, two triples and nine RBI in that span. For the season, he's up to 13 long balls, 45 RBI, 40 runs scored and six stolen bases with an .843 OPS over 71 contests.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Accounts for lone run in loss

Westburg went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. Westburg opened the scoring in the second inning, but that was the extent of the Orioles' run production. The team had just four hits, and Westburg struck out in his other three at-bats. He's been solid lately, going 15-for-53 (.283) over his last 13 contests with nine extra-base hits in that span, though he's also struck out 15 times. The infielder has a .277/.331/.506 slash line with 12 homers, 44 RBI, 39 runs scored and six steals through 70 contests.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Considered day-to-day

Manager Brandon Hyde said that Westburg was diagnosed with a bruised left hip following Tuesday's loss to the Yankees, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Westburg collided with Juan Soto during the first inning of Tuesday's contest and eventually had to leave the game in the second. He appears to have avoided any significant damage, and it's possible he'll return to Baltimore's lineup Wednesday without missing any games.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Blasts 11th homer

Westburg went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored Sunday against the Phillies. It was the 18th multi-hit game of the season for Westburg, whose 11th homer came with two on in the fifth and represented the fourth long ball of the day allowed by Phillies starter Zack Wheeler. The 25-year-old is experiencing a breakout in his second big-league season, posting an impressive slash line of .278/.332/.504 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI, 37 runs and six steals over 268 plate appearances.

Westburg is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Records sixth steal

Westburg went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 7-2 win over the Blue Jays. Westburg has hit safely in his last eight games, going 12-for-31 (.387) in that span. The steal was his first since May 11 and his sixth on nine attempts this season. It's unlikely Westburg will be negatively impacted by the Orioles' promotion of Connor Norby to replace Jorge Mateo (concussion) on the 26-man roster -- Westburg should continue to see near-everyday playing time between third base and second base. The 25-year-old is slashing .292/.348/.510 with nine home runs, 36 RBI and 30 runs scored over 222 plate appearances as he enjoys a breakout in his second major-league campaign.

He's up to five homers, 18 RBI, 14 runs scored and three stolen bases while slashing .333/.392/.639 through 80 plate appearances.
