Guerrero went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double in Monday's loss to Boston. Guerrero knocked a three-run blast to cap off Toronto's five-run seventh inning. He hit (.235) through 14 games to begin the month but has since gone 12-for-34 (.353) with three homers over his last eight contests. Those three homers have come in his last four games after he hit just three over his previous 39 appearances. Guerrero is slashing .286/.368/.429 with 36 RBI and 23 extra-base hits.... See More ... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Goes deep again Sunday
Guerrero went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Guardians. Guerrero launched a two-run home run in the top of first inning off Triston McKenzie, giving Toronto an early lead. He later singled and came around to score on a base knock by Addison Barger in the top of the fifth. The homer was his ninth of the season and second of the three-game series with Cleveland. Guerrero has now notched at least one hit in six of his last eight contests, batting .294 with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Provides only offense Friday
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Guardians. The first baseman took Carlos Carrasco deep in the fourth inning, but it was all the offense the Blue Jays could muster in a 7-1 loss. Guerrero hadn't gone yard since June 6, and while he continues to scald the ball -- he's in the 99th percentile in average exit velocity and hard-hit rate -- a 5.9 degree average launch angle is costing him power. On the season, he's batting .281 with a career-low .406 SLG, eight homers and 31 RBI in 75 games.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Receiving day off
Guerrero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. With Daniel Vogelbach serving as Toronto's designated hitter and with Spencer Horwitz getting the nod at first base, Guerrero will hit the bench for the first time all season in what appears to be routine maintenance. Guerrero went hitless in nine at-bats over his first two games of the series to bring his batting average down to .282 for the season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Crushes seventh homer
Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Thursday's win over the Orioles. The first baseman opened the scoring by launching a cutter from Cade Povich over the right-field fence in the third inning. Guerrero has gone yard twice in the last four games, giving him seven homers on the year. Over the last 15 contests he's slashing .345/.433/.552.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Launches sixth homer
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Orioles. The 25-year-old crushed a Grayson Rodriguez slider in the fourth inning, sending it over the fence in straightaway center field with an exit velocity of 109.2 mph. Guerrero is beginning to flash a little more power -- over his last 11 games, he has three doubles and two of his six homers on the year -- but he's been making plenty of hard contact, slashing .367/.452/.495 since the beginning of May with 16 RBI and 16 runs in 28 contests.... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Draws first start at 3B since 2019
Guerrero will start at third base and bat third in Sunday's game against the Pirates. According to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Guerrero has been taking grounders at third base in pregame workouts throughout the season, but he was believed to be more of an emergency option at the position after he had seen the bulk of his starts at first base or designated hitter over the past four-plus seasons. Regular third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa is healthy, however, and will get the start at second base Sunday, so Guerrero's inclusion at the hot corner could signal that the Blue Jays may be willing to give him more regular work at the position moving forward. Guerrero will be starting at third base Sunday for the first time since Sept. 27, 2019, with all four innings that he's played at the position since then coming as a replacement for a starter during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: On base three times in loss
Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Pirates. The first baseman continues to make consistent hard contact. Guerrero hasn't gone two straight games without a hit since late April, and over his last 30 contests he's slashing .368/.452/.479. He's still not providing the power expected of him and has just seven doubles and two homers during that stretch, and while he's in the 98th percentile in average exit velocity at 94.2 mph and in the 99th percentile in hard-hit rate this season, an average launch angle of 6.1 degrees -- down from 10.5 degrees last year -- is limiting his fantasy production.... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Four hits Sunday
Guerrero went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 14-11 defeat to the Tigers. Guerrero stayed hot Sunday, recording his fifth multi-hit game over his last 10 contests. During that span, Guerrero is batting a torrid .410 with six RBI and seven runs scored. The 25-year-old has recovered from his slow start to the season as his average now sits above .300 on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: On base three times Friday
Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double in Friday's loss to the Tigers. It marks the fourth time in the last seven games that Guerrero has banged out multiple hits. The first baseman has put a sluggish start to the season behind him, and over the last month he's slashing .382/.455/.517 in 23 games with two homers, a steal, 13 runs and 14 RBI.... See More ... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Double, homer in win
Guerrero went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Tigers. Guerrero went hitless in his first three at-bats before sending Danny Jansen to third with a double in the top of the eighth inning. The first baseman wasn't done there, however, adding a two-run homer in the following frame as the Blue Jays blew out the Tigers 9-1. It marked Guerrero's seventh multi-hit game this month, and he's batting .371 in May with two homers, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. The long ball was his first since May 5 against the Nationals.... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Four hits in comeback win
Guerrero went 4-for-5 with a run scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 10-8 win over the Twins. The first baseman banged out singles in each of his first four plate appearances, with the last one bringing home two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 8-8 after the Blue Jays had fallen behind 7-1 in the top of the third. Guerrero has four multi-hit performances in the last five games, a stretch in which he's gone 11-for-21 (.524) with a homer and eight RBI. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .272/.360/.391, as he continues to look for his power stroke.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Three hits in Wednesday's win
Guerrero went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Wednesday's win over the Phillies. All three hits were singles, but two of them had exit velocities over 113 mph. Guerrero appears to be heating up, batting .350 (14-for-40) over the last 10 games with three doubles and a homer, but his .246/.344/.373 slash line on the season remains disappointing,... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Launches grand slam
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam during Sunday's 11-8 loss to the Nationals. Guerrero's grand slam in the second inning off MacKenzie Gore was his fourth of the season and first in 22 games. It was also the first time he homered this season with men on base as he had collected just 11 RBI and hit just .231 coming into the contest. Despite the power outage, Guerrero is currently in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, batting 11-for-32 (.344) with three doubles, a homer, five RBI and three runs scored during that stretch.... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Launches third homer
Guerrero went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-1 extra-innings loss to Seattle. Guerrero was responsible for the Jays' lone run Wednesday with a 459-foot solo blast off Logan Gilbert that tied the game 1-1 in the seventh inning. It's the third homer of the year for Guerrero, though he's gotten off to a slow start at the plate, going 10-for-50 with five RBI through his first 13 games. The 25-year-old Guerrero hit at least 30 homers with 90 RBI in each of his past two campaigns -- he slashed .264/.345/.444 across 602 at-bats last season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: RBI double in win
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and one run scored in Monday's 5-2 win against Seattle. Guerrero recently had a seven-game stretch during which he tallied just four hits over 24 plate appearances, but the slugger seems to be on an upswing over the past three contests with four hits, including two doubles and a homer. No matter if he's in a slump or hitting out of one, the 25-year-old will be a fixture in the Blue Jays lineup as he's been the No. 2 hitter in all 11 games to date.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Crushes first homer of season
Guerrero went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-2 win over the Rays on Opening Day. The 25-year-old slugger demolished a Zach Eflin cutter in the sixth inning, sending it 450 feet over the batter's eye in center field. Guerrero has seen his numbers decline the last two seasons after a monster 2021 campaign in which he produced 48 homers, 111 RBI and a 1.002 OPS, and his ability to rebound to something closer to that level of performance will be crucial to the Blue Jays' fortunes in 2024.... Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: In line to bat second
Guerrero is expected to open the season batting second for the Blue Jays, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports. The overwhelming majority of Guerrero's starts last season came from the third (110 games) or fourth (36 games) spots in the Toronto batting order. However, manager John Schneider basically confirmed Tuesday that he planned to slide Guerrero up to the No. 2 hole in between George Springer and Bo Bichette. Justin Turner will follow them in the cleanup spot.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Slugs homer Friday
Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. He launched a Mason Englert offering completely out of the stadium to left-center field for a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Guerrero sat out a few days with a knee bruise he picked up making a sliding catch in foul territory last weekend, but it looks like he's fully healthy again. Through nine Grapefruit League games, the 25-year-old slugger is batting .417 (10-for-24) with a double and two homers.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Back at first base Friday
Guerrero (knee) is starting at first base and batting third in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. The 24-year-old returned to the lineup as the designated hitter Wednesday after sitting out a couple games with a bruised left knee, and he's back playing defense a couple days later. There never seemed to be significant concern over the injury, and there shouldn't be any worries regarding Guerrero's availability for Opening Day.... See More ... See Less
