Wade (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Wade has been on the injured list since the end of May due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. San Francisco has not yet said how long Wade will remain in the minors, but considering he has been sidelined for nearly a month, it's likely he'll need to play a handful of games with the River Cats before rejoining the big-league club.... Giants' LaMonte Wade: Unlikely to return this week
Giants manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that it's likely a "stretch" for Wade (hamstring) to return from the 10-day injured list before Thursday's matchup with the Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., MLB.com reports. Wade was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain after suffering the injury while sliding into second base in a May 27 win over the Phillies. Though a Grade 2 strain often entails a recovery timeline of more than a month, Wade said last week that his goal was to make it back for MLB's June 20 Negro Leagues tribute game as the Giants' designated hitter. Wade took steps forward this past week by taking batting practice on the field and increasing the intensity of his running progression, but the 30-year-old looks like he'll still at least one week away from being a realistic option to return from the IL. Wilmer Flores should continue to serve as the Giants' primary first baseman while Wade remains out.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Aiming for return next Thursday
Wade (hamstring) said Wednesday that he's pushing hard for a return from the 10-day injured list for the Giants' matchup with the Cardinals on June 20 at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. When he was placed on the IL on May 28 with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, Wade was projected to miss four weeks, but the veteran first baseman took batting practice Tuesday and fielded grounders and started some light running Wednesday as he aims to beat his estimated return timeline by one week. Wade acknowledged that if he's able to return for MLB's June 20 Negro Leagues tribute game, he would likely be relegated to designated-hitter duties. The Giants will presumably continue to monitor Wade's progress as he ramps up over the next week before determining if a June 20 return is feasible. The 30-year-old hadn't been a premium source of counting stats prior to being deactivated due to the injury, but he was hitting an impressive .333 while getting on base at a .470 clip through his first 52 games of the season.... Giants' LaMonte Wade: Slated for BP on Tuesday
Wade (hamstring) will take batting practice Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Wade resumed baseball activities over the weekend and is almost ready to do some hitting on the field. He's been on the shelf since late May with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. While Wade looks to be trending in a positive direction, the real test for him will be when he does some running, and it's not clear when he'll be cleared for that.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Hitting and throwing
Wade (hamstring) has begun hitting and throwing programs at the Giants' complex in Arizona, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Wade still has plenty of boxes to check off before he can start playing in rehab games, but resuming baseball activities is a step in the right direction. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain in late May and still projects to be sidelined until at least the end of June.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Diagnosed with Grade 2 strain
Wade was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants placed Wade on the injured list earlier Tuesday, but the team expects him to be sidelined for roughly a month now that the severity of his strain has been revealed. In the meantime, Wilmer Flores and Trenton Brooks will likely split time at first base, though neither player is likely to replace Wade's .333/.470/.426 slash line.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Lands on injured list
Wade (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. The 30-year-old returned to the lineup Monday against the Phillies after he suffered the hamstring injury over the weekend, but he aggravated the issue and will miss at least the next week and a half. Wade has been one of the more surprisingly productive players in MLB through the first two months of the season with a .333/.470/.426 slash line through 52 games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Diagnosed with hamstring injury
Wade left Monday's game against the Phillies due to a left hamstring strain, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Wade appeared to be grabbing his left knee before exiting Monday's game, but after further evaluation, it's been determined that he's dealing with a hamstring issue. The team has yet to comment further on whether a trip to the 10-day injured list will be required, but it seems likely given the nature of the injury, along with the fact that Wade will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, according to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. Wilmer Flores would be in line for more chances at first base if Wade misses additional time.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Exits game with knee injury
Wade was lifted from Monday's game against the Phillies with an apparent left knee injury, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Wade doubled off the wall in the bottom of the fifth inning but came up lame and had to be removed for a pinch-runner. He had missed the previous two games with a hamstring issue, but it would appear this is unrelated. The Giants should have more on Wade soon.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Returns to action Monday
Wade (hamstring) will start at first base and bat second in Monday's game versus the Phillies. Wade had to exit a game this past Friday after tweaking his hamstring, causing him to miss the next two contests. He's feeling well enough to give it a go in this one, though, as the Giants take on right-hander Taijuan Walker and the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Absent from lineup Sunday
Wade (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets Wade tweaked his hamstring in the ninth inning of San Fransisco's 8-7 win over the Mets on Friday, and he'll be out of the lineup for the second straight game as the two clubs finish up their series. Wilmer Flores will fill in at first base for Wade and will bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Battling hamstring issue
Manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that Wade tweaked his hamstring during the ninth inning of Friday's win over the Mets, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Melvin noted that the Giants consider Wade's injury to be minor, but they have decided not to push their luck and will keep him out of the lineup for Saturday's contest. Wilmer Flores will cover first base and bat fifth while Wade recovers.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Gets aboard six times Wednesday
Wade went 3-for-3 with three walks, one RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-5 extra-inning win over the Pirates. This was Wade's first three-hit game of the year, as well as his second three-walk effort. It's arguably the best example of what he's brought to the table in 2024 -- decent contact hitting and remarkable patience at the plate. Wade is batting .340 with a 19:12 BB:K over 19 games in May. For the season, the first baseman is at a .336/.484/.431 slash line with two home runs, 16 RBI, 20 runs scored, five doubles and one stolen base over 153 plate appearances. Wade briefly saw a full-time role earlier in the month when Jorge Soler was on the injured list, but since Soler's return, Wade has returned to a strong-side platoon with Wilmer Flores at first base.... Giants' LaMonte Wade: Idle against lefty
Wade isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies. Wade will begin Saturday's contest in the dugout as left-hander Ty Blach prepares to toe the slab for Colorado. Wilmer Flores will pick up a start at first base while batting third.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Knocks second homer
Wade went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two walks in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Reds. Wade has gotten on base in his last 13 games, going 11-for-34 with a 13:10 BB:K in that span. While he's been an on-base machine this season, he's struggled to hit for power -- his homer Sunday was his second of the year, and he's added just five doubles over 40 contests. Wade is slashing .340/.480/.457 with 14 RBI, 14 runs scored and one stolen base over 123 plate appearances. He's just shy of being a qualified hitter due to beginning the year in a strong-side platoon role, but he's seen more opportunities versus southpaws since Jorge Soler (shoulder) went on the injured list Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Reaches four times in win
Wade went 1-for-2 with three walks and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Rockies. Wade reached base four times and produced a key two-run single in the fourth to extend the Giants' lead to 4-0. Wade strictly operates in a platoon against right-handed pitching, though if he had enough plate appearances to qualify, he'd be leading the majors with a .485 OBP and 21.4 percent walk rate. He's now reached safely in eight straight games and is slashing .351/.485/.442 with a homer, 10 RBI, 12 runs and a 21:26 BB:K in 101 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Hits bench Thursday
Wade is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Wade went 0-for-6 with three walks and an RBI while starting at first base in each of the last three games, but he'll get a day off as the Giants and Red Sox wrap up their series with an afternoon contest. Wilmer Flores will join the San Francisco infield as a replacement for Wade.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Resting against lefty
Wade isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against Pittsburgh, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. With the Giants set to face lefty Martin Perez on Saturday, the lefty-hitting Wade will stay put in the dugout to begin the game. Wilmer Flores will start at first base instead and bat second.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Sitting against southpaw
Wade is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. As per usual, the lefty-hitting Wade finds himself on the bench while the Giants face off against a left-handed starting pitcher (Sean Manaea) in the series finale. Wilmer Flores will replace Wade at first base and as the Giants' No. 2 batter.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' LaMonte Wade: Resting versus lefty
Wade isn't in the Giants' lineup Friday versus the Diamondbacks, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The lefty-hitting Wade will take a seat Friday as southpaw Jordan Montgomery prepares to make his first start of the season for Arizona. Wilmer Flores will take over at first base and bat second....
