Rockies' German Marquez: Next rehab outing set
Marquez (elbow) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, MLB.com reports.
Marquez made his most recent rehab outing Saturday with High-A Spokane and threw 58 pitches while recording four scoreless frames. He'll head to the highest level of the minors to put the finishing touches on his rehab from Tommy John surgery and could return in early July.

Rockies' German Marquez: Shifts rehab to Single-A
Marquez (elbow) struck out four and allowed six hits and no walks over 2.1 innings in a rehab start Sunday with Single-A Fresno.
Marquez resumed his minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League before moving up to the Rockies' Single-A affiliate three days later. While he was knocked around a bit and gave up two home runs among his six hits, Marquez at least exhibited solid control on the night, spotting 36 of his 52 pitches for strikes. The right-hander will likely need two or three more starts in the minors to get fully stretched out before the Rockies are comfortable activating him from the 60-day injured list and inserting him into the rotation. Marquez is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent May 12, 2023.

Rockies' German Marquez: Resumes rehab assignment
Marquez (elbow) resumed a rehab assignment with the Rockies' Arizona Complex League affiliate Wednesday, striking out four while yielding one unearned run over 1.2 innings.
Marquez made one rehab appearance with the ACL Rockies last month before returning to throwing bullpen sessions. He's now back to appearing in games as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander is tracking toward a return to the Rockies sometime next month.

Rockies' German Marquez: Throws 30 pitches
Marquez (elbow) threw a bullpen session of between 30 and 35 pitches Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Marquez threw primarily fastballs but also mixed in some breaking balls. He'll now head to Arizona and is expected to appear in several Arizona Complex League contests before embarking on a more formal rehab assignment. Marquez remains on course to return just before the All-Star break.

Rockies' German Marquez: Set to throw bullpens
Marquez (elbow) will return to Denver to throw bullpen sessions during the Rockies' weekend series against the Phillies, MLB.com reports.
Manager Bud Black said the team wanted to see Marquez's progress after he had been working at the team's spring training facility for the last few weeks. If things go well, Marquez could embark on a rehab assignment in the near future for the final stage of his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery, but he's still not expected to be back in the big-league rotation until July.

Rockies manager Bud Black said April 24 that Marquez (elbow) hasn't experienced any setbacks since he resumed facing hitters at extended spring training in Arizona, MLB.com reports.
Marquez opened the season on the 60-day injured list while he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent May 12, 2023. Closing in on the one-year mark in his rehab program, Marquez appears to be coming along as expected, but the Rockies haven't indicated when he'll be able to resume pitching in minor-league rehab games. The team is preparing for Marquez to return from the 60-day IL at some point around midseason.

The Rockies placed Marquez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Marquez's move to the 60-day IL to begin the season wasn't unexpected, as the veteran right-hander is completing his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery and is unlikely to be available until the second half of the 2024 campaign. The Rockies were able to open up a 40-man roster spot for newly acquired outfielder Jake Cave by placing Marquez on the 60-day IL.

Rockies' German Marquez: Return after All-Star break likely
Rockies GM Bill Schmidt said Sunday that Marquez (elbow) isn't expected to be activated from the injured list until after the All-Star break, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
The 28-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-May last year, so a return during the first half of 2024 was never likely. Marquez had a 4.95 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 150:63 K:BB over 181.2 innings in 2022 and is likely to have some limitations once back with the big club after the break.

Rockies' German Marquez: Inks two-year extension
Colorado signed Marquez (elbow) to a two-year, $20 million contract extension Friday.
This new deal will cover the 2024-2025 seasons, so Marquez is no longer headed into free agency this winter and now carries some financial security into the remaining several months of his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. He underwent the reconstructive elbow procedure in May of this year and is not expected to return to a major-league mound until the second half of next season. The 28-year-old right-hander owns a 4.41 ERA in 1,016 career big-league innings, all with the Rockies. His career ERA away from Coors Field is 3.80.

Rockies' German Marquez: Moved to 60-day IL
The Rockies placed Marquez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Friday.
Marquez underwent Tommy John surgery last week, so a trip to the 60-day IL was inevitable. He will be shut down for the rest of the season and likely won't return until the back half of the 2024 campaign, although it's not entirely clear who he might be pitching for by then -- the Rockies hold a $16 million club option for 2023 on Marquez, which they could decline even if they then end up re-signing him to a more team-friendly deal.
