Tellez went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Sunday's win over the Rockies. Tellez singled three times, including a two-run base hit in the seventh inning. He's slashing .419/.471/.581 with nine RBI over his last nine games. The hot streak has been encouraging but he has plenty of work left to undo his ugly start to the season; Tellez owns a .576 OPS with seven extra-base hits through 58 games.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting against LHP
Tellez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Colorado. Tellez will dodge a matchup with southpaw Ty Blach on Saturday, yielding to Connor Joe at first base. After a slow start to 2024, Tellez has come to life in June, hitting .385 with three extra-base hits and seven RBI in nine games played.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Checking out of lineup Wednesday
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Though he'll take a seat against a right-hander (Sonny Gray), the lefty-hitting Tellez seems to have a firmer grasp on a strong-side platoon role these days while he's begun to heat up at the plate. Over his last six games, Tellez has gone 9-for-19 with a home run, three doubles, two walks, seven RBI and three runs.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Another multi-hit game
Tellez went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk Sunday against the Twins. Tellez has had a miserable start to his tenure in Pittsburgh, though he's begun to turn things around in his last five starts. He has four multi-hit games in that stretch, hitting .529 with seven RBI and three runs scored. Tellez should remain Pittsburgh's primary first baseman against right-handed pitching.... See More ... Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Finally ends homer drought
Tellez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Twins. The 29-year-old slugger took Simeon Woods Richardson deep in the seventh inning to produce the game's first run, then was at the heart of a three-run rally in the eighth. Tellez hadn't homered since March 31, and Saturday's blast snapped a 48-game power drought in which he slashed just .197/.262/.235 with five doubles. He is showing signs of life at the plate, however, batting .391 (9-for-23) over his last seven games with seven of his 15 RBI on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting versus lefty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. After he had began to lose out on regular playing time toward the end of May, the lefty-hitting Tellez has started in each of the last four games against right-handed pitching. Tellez still remains in a platoon at first base with Connor Joe, however, and Tellez will take a seat Wednesday while the Dodgers bring southpaw James Paxton to the hill.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Snaps out of slump
Tellez went 3-for-4 with a two-RBI double and two RBI singles during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays. Tellez hadn't logged an RBI since May 5 and had driven in three batters since April 4. He bested that total just on Sunday, plating all four of the Pirates' runs and reaching safely in four of his five plate appearances. Prior to Sunday's contest, Tellez had generated four hits in 40 at-bats with one walk.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Idle against lefty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Sunday's matchup against Atlanta. With Atlanta bringing southpaw Chris Sale to the mound, the lefty-hitting Tellez will retreat to the bench. Even with the Pirates recently optioning another key left-handed bat in Jack Suwinski to the minors, Tellez doesn't look as though he'll necessarily be locked into a regular role against right-handed pitching, either. He was held out of the starting nine for Saturday's 4-1 win while righty Reynaldo Lopez started for Atlanta.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting Saturday
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday against Atlanta, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Although the Pirates will be facing a right-hander in Reynaldo Lopez, the left-handed Tellez will step out of the lineup. The 29-year-old is slashing just .175/.242/.225 through 132 plate appearances, so it's possible he's losing his grip on the starting job at first base. Connor Joe will get the nod at first while Edward Olivares starts in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Takes seat Friday
Tellez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Tellez will dodge a matchup with southpaw Ray Kerr on Friday. Connor Joe will start at first base and bat third.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Idle against lefty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The lefty-hitting Tellez will hit the bench for the series finale with southpaw Blake Snell on the hill for San Francisco. Tellez will give way to the right-handed-hitting Connor Joe at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting versus righty
Tellez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. It's notable because the Pirates are facing a right-hander in Logan Webb. Tellez has started all but two games versus righties this season, but the two times he wasn't in the lineup have both come over the last week. With a .181/.250/.233 batting line in 44 contests this season, Tellez's time in Pittsburgh might be running out. Connor Joe will handle first base Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Out against southpaw
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday versus the Cubs. Tellez will take a seat Saturday with lefty Shota Imanaga starting on the mound for Chicago. Connor Joe will start at first base and bat third.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting against lefty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. He finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row while the Brewers bring southpaw Robert Gasser to the hill. The lefty-hitting Tellez will give way to the right-handed-hitting Connor Joe at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting Tuesday
Tellez isn't in the lineup Tuesday versus the Brewers. Tellez has recorded just one hit across his last 22 plate appearances in an eight-game span. In his absence, Connor Joe will start at first base and bat cleanup.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting against southpaw
Tellez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. As he usually does, the lefty-hitting Tellez will retreat to the bench while the opposition brings a lefty (Tyler Anderson) to the hill. Connor Joe will replace Tellez at first base and will bat cleanup.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting versus lefty
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup Tuesday versus Oakland, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. With left-hander Alex Wood set to start on the mound for the A's, the lefty-hitting Tellez will step out of the lineup. Connor Joe will fill in at first base Tuesday and bat third.... See More ... Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Struggles continue
Tellez went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored Thursday against the Brewers. Tellez hasn't gotten on track at the plate this season and now has only two hits across his last 28 at-bats. He's struck out seven times in that span, and he has only two barrels on 51 batted ball events for the season. The Pirates could ultimately opt to play Connor Joe at first base more regularly if Tellez's struggles continue, and the eventual return of Yasmani Grandal (foot) could also mean that Tellez will lose some plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Providing minimal power
Tellez went 0-for-3 Saturday against the Red Sox. Tellez went hitless for the fourth time in his last six starts and is hitting only .207 overall across 65 plate appearances for the season. To make matters worse, he has only one extra-base hit on the campaign, failing to provide pop in the middle of the Pittsburgh lineup. Already sitting against lefties, it's possible that Tellez also starts to sit against righties due to the solid start to the season for Connor Joe, plus the eventual return of Yasmani Grandal (foot).... Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Out again versus lefty
Tellez is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Phillies. He will yield to Connor Joe at first base with the Phillies sending lefty Cristopher Sanchez to the hill. Tellez is 0-for-8 at the dish against left-handers this season.... See More ... See Less

Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG13H agoChatting w/NL scout last night. He floated the following for the Pirates to get a bat. (Note: This isn't on the table. Just 1 take on value/trade balance.) Pirates get: Luis Robert Jr. White Sox get: Termarr Johnson, Lonnie White Jr. and Hunter Barco. Would you do it? I would.
