Freeland didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Washington, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts across six scoreless innings.
Though Freeland was pulled after 69 pitches, he still managed to collect his first quality start of the season and showed no rust after a two-month stint on the injured list. While the Rockies led 1-0 when Freeland exited, the southpaw didn't wind up with the win after the Nationals scored two runs in the top of the ninth and took the victory. Freeland's excellence Sunday was a breath of fresh air for the 31-year-old, who allowed 23 runs in four starts before hitting the IL with an elbow strain. He's on track to start during a three-game road series against the White Sox next weekend.

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Activated ahead of start
The Rockies reinstated Freeland (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Freeland has been on the shelf since mid-April due to a strained left elbow. He was able to make three rehab starts without any issues, posting a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 10 innings, and he'll now match up against a relatively weak Nationals offense in the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field. The 31-year-old southpaw didn't find much success before landing on the IL, accumulating a 13.21 ERA and 2.55 WHIP in 15.2 innings across four starts. Until he's able to bring those numbers down significantly, fantasy managers would likely be wise to stay away from Freeland.

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Set to return Sunday
Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Freeland (elbow) will return from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday versus the Nationals, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Freeland allowed two earned runs while striking out four over four innings in his third and final rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Albuquerque. The left-hander threw 67 pitches in the outing, so he probably won't be ready for a full workload Sunday. Most fantasy managers shouldn't be using Freeland, anyway. He posted a 13.21 ERA in four starts before going on the injured list in mid-April with a left elbow strain.

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Reaches 67 pitches in rehab start
Freeland (elbow) struck out four over four innings in his third rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Albuquerque, giving up two earned runs on two hits and four walks.
Freeland tossed four innings of one-run ball in his first rehab outing with Albuquerque on June 13, but he wasn't quite as sharp in his second turn through the Triple-A rotation, spotting 42 of his 67 pitches for strikes while walking four of the 18 batters he faced. Though Freeland looks to be stretched out to close to a traditional starter's workload, the Rockies may want the left-hander to raise his pitch count a bit more and show improved control in one more outing with Albuquerque before bringing him back from the 60-day injured list. The Rockies already seem to be ruling out Freeland for a return this weekend; the team is listing Dakota Hudson, Cal Quantrill and Austin Gomber as its starters for the series with the Nationals that runs Friday through Sunday, according to Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com.
