Diaz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Pirates. Diaz tagged Pirates starter Paul Skenes early, depositing the first pitch of the game off the foul pole in right field for his sixth homer of the season. He later led off the eighth with his third hit, which eventually saw pinch runner Jose Caballero cross the plate with the go-ahead run. Diaz extended his hitting streak to 16 games in the process, collecting his ninth multiple-hit effort during that stretch and fourth multi-hit game over the last five. He's batting 26-for-71 (.366) during the streak.... See More ... See Less

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Homers, extends hitting streak
Diaz went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Twins. Diaz collected two hits, including his fifth homer of the season, to extend his hitting streak to 13 games and his on-base streak to 22 games. He's batting .351 over the course of the hit streak, though he has just one home run, one double, four RBI and six runs scored to show for his efforts.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Nine-game hitting streak
Diaz went 1-for-4 with a walk Saturday against Atlanta. Diaz extended his hitting streak to nine games with the performance, during which he's collected multiple hits on five occasions. He's hitting .359 in that span, though his production has otherwise been empty as he has zero extra-base hits, one RBI and three runs scored. Diaz has managed only a .094 ISO across 309 plate appearances for the campaign, so his lack of power has not been a short-term issue.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Productive weekend series
Diaz went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Sunday against the Orioles. Diaz had a strong weekend series thanks to some timely hits. Across the three games, he went just 3-for-11 but drove in four runs and also worked two free passes. Diaz has gone just 7-for-44 across his last 13 starts, though he's striking out at only a 10.6 percent clip in that span, meaning his numbers should start to tick back up.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Getting breather Saturday
Diaz isn't in the Rays' lineup Saturday against the Royals. Diaz will get a day off Saturday after going 1-for-4 during a loss in Friday's series opener. His absence will allow Jonathan Aranda to start at first base, moving Isaac Paredes into the DH spot while Amed Rosario starts at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Swats late homer
Diaz went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Red Sox. Diaz knocked in a run with a groundout in the second inning and added a solo shot in the ninth. He's up to four homers this season, three of which have come in his last 12 games, a span in which he's hitting .313 (15-for-48). The infielder is slashing .255/.321/.360 with 25 RBI, 22 runs scored, no stolen bases and nine doubles over 50 contests this season. Diaz had a career-high 22 homers in 2023, but that was an anomaly for him from a power standpoint -- he's much more of a contact-first hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Idle Tuesday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox. The 32-year-old will yield to Jonathan Aranda at first base Tuesday, giving Diaz his first day off after playing 10 straight games. During that stretch, Diaz is batting .341 with a pair of homers.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Reaches base five times
Diaz went 3-for-3 with two walks and a run scored Saturday against the Blue Jays. Diaz has gotten on track at the plate across the last two weeks, with Saturday's performance marking his eighth multi-hit performance across his last 15 games. He's gone 23-for-63 with 12 RBI and 10 runs scored, also chipping in a pair of home runs. Overall, Diaz owns a 106 wRC+ but just a .097 ISO across 206 plate appearances for the season.... Rays' Yandy Diaz: Continues hot stretch
Diaz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored Sunday against the Yankees. Diaz launched his second homer in as many games and his third of the season. He has turned his results around in May, as he's maintained a .333 average with eight RBI and eight runs scored across 10 games. Diaz remains locked in as the Rays' leadoff hitter and should be a strong source of batting average and runs scored moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Three hits, homer in win
Diaz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Yankees. Diaz jumped on Nestor Cortes' first pitch of the bottom of the first inning, sending it over the left-field wall for his second long ball of the season. He didn't stop there, doubling twice (with one of them plating another run) and finishing with three runs scored. Diaz already has five multi-hit games this month, elevating his average from .220 to .250.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Three straight multi-hit games
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI on Sunday against the Mets. Diaz is hitting just .235 across his 150 plate appearances of the season, though his results have begun to turn around of late. Sunday marked his third straight start with two hits, and he also has a double, four RBI and a run scored in that span. Diaz has only two barrels in 114 batted ball events to begin the season, though he should continue to see hits fall in at an increased clip as he's maintained a 15.3 percent strikeout rate -- in line with his career norm.... Rays' Yandy Diaz: Back in action Sunday
Diaz (finger) is starting at first base and batting leadoff Sunday against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 32-year-old sat out Saturday after being hit by a pitch in the left pinky finger Friday, but he'll rejoin the starting nine after missing just one game. Diaz is hitting .324 in his past nine contests, though he's slugging just .378 during that stretch and has not hit a home run since Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Available Saturday
Diaz (hand) is not in the starting lineup but is available as a pinch hitter for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Diaz left Friday's game after taking a 99-mph fastball off his left pinky in the eighth inning. X-rays came back negative, and while he won't start Saturday, he will be available should the Rays need a right-handed bat. With Diaz in the dugout, lefty-hitting Austin Shenton will start at first base and bat in the cleanup spot against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: X-rays negative
X-rays on Diaz's hand came back negative Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Diaz had to leave Friday's game after getting hit in the hand by a pitch during the eighth inning, but it seems he escaped the incident without suffering any significant damage. He may still step out of the lineup for a game or two to avoid playing with any lingering pain, but an extended absence isn't likely.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Hits not falling
Diaz went 0-for-4 with a walk Tuesday against the Angels. Diaz is hitting only .197 across 78 plate appearances this season, and he's failed to record a hit in five of his last 10 games. However, he's remained installed as the Rays' leadoff hitter and has struck out only 16.7 percent of the time so far this year, so there's reason to believe his results will even out over time.... Rays' Yandy Diaz: Reaches base three times
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Rockies. Diaz has hit atop the Rays' lineup in every game this season, and he made an immediate impact by drawing a walk to begin the game while also coming around to score. Eight frames later, he led off with a double, which began a five-run rally for the Rays. Diaz now has a three-game hitting streak and three multi-hit performances for the season.... See More ... Rays' Yandy Diaz: Lone producer in Opening Day loss
Diaz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI during Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Blue Jays. Diaz accounted for both of the Rays runs scored, going yard off Jose Berrios to lead off the first inning and driving in Rene Pinto on a sixth-inning double. After slashing .330/.410/.522 with a career-high 22 homers in 600 plate appearances during 2023, Diaz is off to a strong start in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Healthy to start spring training
Diaz is fully healthy entering spring training after battling a groin injury for most of the 2023 season, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Diaz suffered the initial injury in mid-May and went on to miss small chunks of time for the rest of the season with an assortment of lower-body injuries. He focused on agility work this offseason to avoid similar issues in 2024 while increasing his first-step quickness. It's also worth noting that Diaz played through the pain effectively, as he posted an excellent .406 wOBA with a .193 ISO across 259 plate appearances in the second half.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Leading off in wild-card opener
Diaz is starting at first base and batting leadoff in Tuesday's AL Wild Card Series opener against the Rangers. Diaz started just one of the Rays' final five regular-season contests while dealing with a right hamstring issue, but his availability for the AL Wild Card Series never seemed to be in much doubt. The American League batting champ is just 3-for-16 in his career versus Rangers starter Jordan Montgomery, although he has drawn five walks and hasn't struck out.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Resting again Sunday
Diaz is not in Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays. The Rays will give Diaz another day to rest up in advance of the postseason. He has been a little banged up lately, but still managed to hit .345 with five home runs in the month of September.... See More ... See Less
