Player Outlook
Despite missing 56 games due to hip and toe injuries, Aaron Judge cracked 37 homers in 2023, finishing fourth in the American League. The stars aligned in his historic 2022 MVP season and nobody should expect that level of production again, particularly in the stolen-base department (his SB total fell from 16 to just three last season). That being said, Judge is arguably the most prolific power hitter in baseball, and he chased pitches outside the strike zone less than ever last season (career-low 22.5 O-Swing%). He returned to hit .245/.408/.557 with 18 homers and 53 walks in his final 57 games, and manager Aaron Boone said in August that Judge would not need offseason surgery on his right big toe. There is no questioning his hitting ability, though it's fair to question whether the hulking outfielder/DH can hold up to the rigors of a full MLB season as he approaches age 32. Judge has reached 150 games played only twice in his career.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Serving as DH sans Stanton

Judge will serve as the designated hitter and bat third for Sunday's series finale against Atlanta. With Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) placed on the injured list Sunday, Judge will have more turns at DH while Trent Grisham gets reps in the outfield, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. For the month of June, Judge is slashing a blistering .381/.494/.857 with eight home runs and 25 while boasting a 1.351 OPS.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Productive in win

Judge went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and a walk in Saturday's 8-3 win over Atlanta. Judge generated runs in a variety of ways. His first-inning blast put the Yankees ahead, and he drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to tack on an insurance run. Even one of his outs, a groundout into a double play, allowed a run to score in the third. Judge has three homers over his last five contests and is up to 28 long balls this year as he continues to pace the majors. He's added a spectacular .301/.425/.692 slash line with 70 RBI, 59 runs scored and five stolen bases through 77 games, a level of production quite similar to his MVP campaign from 2022.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Homers in return to lineup

Judge went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's loss to the Orioles. Judge did his best to bring the Yankees back from a large deficit early with a two-run shot in the third and an RBI single in the fifth, but his effort would fall well short as Baltimore's offense exploded for 17 runs. The long ball was the outfielder's 28th of the season, which leads the majors, and he's now recorded at least one RBI in seven of his last 11 games. Judge is batting .418 in June following Thursday's performance and has seven home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored. He looked fully himself after sitting out one game due to a hand injury after being hit by a pitch Tuesday.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Back in lineup, hitting third

Judge (hand) will start in center field and bat third in Thursday's game against the Orioles. Judge was removed from Tuesday's 4-2 win over Baltimore after being hit by a pitch on the left hand and sat out Wednesday's 7-6 loss, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in the series finale Thursday. He and his teammates will face left-hander Cole Irvin.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Judge (hand) won't be in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Orioles, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports. X-rays and a CT scan on Judge's left hand came back negative after he exited Tuesday's 4-2 win over Baltimore when he was hit by pitch. According to Meredith Marakovits of YES Network, Boone said that Judge took some swings in the batting cage Wednesday and is expected to avoid a trip to the injured list, but the slugger is still sore and will miss at least one start. Judge likely won't be available off the bench Wednesday, but the hope is he'll be able to return to action for Thursday's series finale. Trent Grisham will replace Judge in center field Wednesday.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Imaging comes back negative

Judge said Tuesday that X-rays and CT scans on his left hand came back negative, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports. Judge had to leave Tuesday's game against Baltimore after taking a fastball off his hand, but he now appears to have avoided a significant injury. The 32-year-old slugger also said he aims to return without missing any games, though he is dealing with a bit of swelling that could sideline him for a day or two, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Exits after HBP

Judge was removed from Tuesday's game against the Orioles after getting hit in the hand by a pitch, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Judge took a 94-mph fastball off his left hand during the third inning of Tuesday's contest. He remained in the game to run the bases and even went back out to cover center field in the top of the fourth, but Trent Grisham pinch hit for him during the bottom of the frame. Judge's willingness to initially stay in the game could signal that his removal was only precautionary, but the Yankees will take a closer look at him and should have an update on his status in the near future.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Homers in loss

Judge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Red Sox. Judge had a bit of a quiet week, going a modest 6-for-25 (.240) with two homers and five RBI over six contests against the Royals and Red Sox. He also struck out nine times, including thrice in Sunday's game. It's likely just the natural ebb and flow of offense in a long season, as the outfielder is still leading the majors with 26 long balls while adding 64 RBI, 56 runs scored, five stolen bases and a .299/.425/.686 slash line over 73 contests.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Stays red-hot

Judge went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI single during Tuesday's 10-1 win over Kansas City. Judge launched his fourth homer of his last three starts, plating Juan Soto on a two-run shot in the seventh inning. The center fielder has also generated multiple hits in four straight games and eight of his last 10 contests. Lost in the mix of his absurd power streak -- which has seen his ISO surpass .400 -- Judge is striking out at a 24.1 percent clip this season, which would be a career low if it stands.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Getting first day off Monday

Judge is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Kansas City, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports. It's the first day off of the season for Judge, who had started each of the Yankees' first 67 contests. Trent Grisham will start in center field Monday.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Swats 24th home run

Judge went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers. Judge capped off his night with a no-doubt 434-foot blast to left field off Yohan Ramirez to put the Yankees up 6-4 in the eighth. He also tacked on an RBI double in the third and singled in the sixth before coming around to score on a homer from Trent Grisham. Judge has been on an absolutely torrid stretch at the plate. He has seven multi-hit efforts over his last nine games and is slashing .533/.650/1.300 with six homers, 18 RBI, 13 runs and a 10:6 BB:K over that span. He has started to distance himself from the rest of the pack, as his 24 home runs leads the way in baseball, while Gunnar Henderson is next behind him with 20.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Goes deep twice in loss

Judge went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs and a walk Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers. It was a humbling game for the Yankees as a team, but Judge continued his offensive domination of the league, hitting solo shots in the third and ninth innings. The slugger has reached base safely in 33 straight contests, hitting an even .400 (46-for-115) with 17 homers, 39 RBI, 37 runs, four stolen bases and a 32:33 BB:K over the jaw-dropping stretch. Judge leads the majors with 23 total long balls on the campaign and ranks second with 57 RBI.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Drives in five Wednesday

Judge went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and five RBI in Wednesday's 9-5 win against Minnesota. Judge broke the game open in the fifth inning, lacing a bases-loaded triple to left field to give New York a 7-0 lead. It was the slugger's first triple since 2019 and just the fifth of his career as a big-leaguer. Judge had already plated a run with a groundout in the first inning, and he added an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth frame to give him his first five-RBI performance of the campaign. He now ranks second in the majors with 54 runs batted in this season.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Keeps power surge going

Judge went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Giants. May is over, but Judge's power surge is still in full effect. He's slugged four homers and added eight RBI over his last three games, and he's up to six homers over eight contests during the Yankees' current road trip through California. Judge has 21 long balls, 47 RBI, 42 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .287/.414/.662 slash line through 60 contests this year, a level of production that should have him firmly in the MVP conversation.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: First to 20 homers in 2024

Judge went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 6-2 win over the Giants. Judge ended May with a bang, earning his first multi-homer game of the year while reaching the 20-homer mark. He did a ton of damage to opposing pitchers this month, going 36-for-97 (.371) with 14 long balls, 12 doubles and 27 RBI over 28 contests. The slugger is up to a fantastic .282/.408/.648 slash line with 45 RBI, 40 runs scored and two stolen bases over 59 contests in 2024.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Crushes 18th homer

Judge went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Angels. Judge didn't have a great day at the plate overall, striking out four times for the second time this season. However, he was able to give the Yankees an early 2-1 lead with a two-run shot off Patrick Sandoval in the fourth, marking his 12th long ball this month. Five of those homers have come over Judge's last eight games and he's now batting .355 in May with 23 RBI and 26 runs scored.

Judge went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Padres. The star outfielder would also double to lead off the fourth before coming around to score for a second time, marking the third time in his last four games that he's scored two runs. Judge has also homered in four straight games now and is up to 17 long balls on the campaign, which ties him with Kyle Tucker and Gunnar Henderson for the league lead.

Judge has been on a tear in May, going 27-for-63 (.429) with nine homers and 17 RBI in his last 19 games. After a slow start to the campaign, he's boosted his season slash line to .276/.416/.611 with 35 RBI, 34 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Opens scoring Wednesday

Judge went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Mariners. Judge saw an eight-game hitting streak snapped Tuesday, but he's reached base in 10 straight contests. During the on-base streak, he's gone 15-for-34 (.441) with five homers, nine RBI, 12 runs scored, six doubles and an 11:9 BB:K. The slugger has been strong at the plate all year, slashing .268/.405/.585 with 14 long balls, 34 RBI, 32 runs scored, 16 doubles and two stolen bases over 51 contests. Judge's 24.7 percent strikeout rate is the lowest mark of his career, which should allow him to continue to succeed as long as he keeps it in check.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Continues power surge Sunday

Judge went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-2 win against the White Sox. Judge capped the scoring in the contest with one of the shortest homers of his career -- a 339-foot poke to the short porch in right field. Regardless of the distance, it was another addition to his recent collection of his homers, as he's now gone deep seven times over his past 13 games. The impressive run has elevated Judge into a tie for third place in the majors with 13 home runs on the campaign.
