Wisdom went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the White Sox. Wisdom provided a game-tying blast as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning after replacing Michael Busch. Over his previous 15 games, Wisdom had gone just 4-for-31 (.129) with two doubles, three RBI and 11 strikeouts. He's now slashing .230/.304/.475 with three homers, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases over 69 plate appearances this season. Wisdom's slump during May didn't help his cause to see more than a short-side platoon role, as he's primarily played at first base in a short-side share with Busch.... See More ... See Less

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Three hits, homer
Wisdom went 3-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 5-4 win over the Pirates. Wisdom reached four times during the extra-inning win and belted a solo homer off Aroldis Chapman in the 10th frame. With Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki healthy, starts will likely come at a premium for Wisdom despite slashing .321/.441/.679 across 34 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Not starting Monday
Wisdom is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres. Wisdom had served as the Cubs' designated hitter in three of the past four games, going 4-for-11 with a home run, a double, two two walks, two RBI, three runs and two stolen bases during that stretch. Christopher Morel will get a day out of the field and will be deployed at DH, but Wisdom could have a hold on a near-everyday role until Seiya Suzuki (oblique) returns from the injured list.... Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Emerging as primary DH
Wisdom will serve as the Cubs' designated hitter and No. 7 batter in Sunday's game against the Brewers. Wisdom is starting at DH for the third time in four games, and it looks like the role will be his for the taking for the time being after the Cubs optioned Matt Mervis to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday. Wisdom should have an opportunity to see steady playing time until the Cubs get at least one of Seiya Suzuki (oblique) or Cody Bellinger (ribs) back from the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Homer, steal in win
Wisdom went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Brewers. Wisdom, who exceeded 20 homers each of the past three seasons, finally got on the board with his first long ball of 2024. He also added his second steal of the season, and his second steal since the calendar flipped to May. Wisdom has totaled just 20 at-bats since he returned from the injured list April 18, as most of his playing time has come against left-handed pitching, though he's now been the DH in two of the Cubs' last three games versus opposing right-handers.... Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Getting start in right field
Wisdom will start in right field and bat second in Friday's game against the Marlins. Fresh off the injured list, the right-handed hitting Wisdom will be thrown right into the mix against left-hander A.J. Puk. Most of the 32-year-old's playing time figures to come against southpaws. Wisdom has a career .813 OPS versus lefties.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Back from IL
The Cubs activated Wisdom (back) from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports. Wisdom went to the injured list just before Opening Day and was able to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on April 6. During the assignment, the 32-year-old appeared in nine games and went 11-for-27 with three home runs across 36 plate appearances. Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Begins rehab in Triple-A
Wisdom (back) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Wisdom landed on the injured list just before Opening Day and has now been cleared to test his back in a game setting. The Cubs haven't indicated how long they plan on keeping the 32-year-old in Triple-A, but he remains on track to return sometime around mid-April.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Will open season on IL
Wisdom (back) will open the season on the injured list, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. It's not clear what the official diagnosis is for Wisdom's back injury, but the club hopes his stay on the IL will be a brief one. Once healthy, Wisdom is projected to see starts against left-handed pitching while shifting between third base, first base and designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Managing back issue
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that Wisdom, who hasn't seen game action since Wednesday, is dealing with a back injury, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. It's not believed to be a serious injury, however, with Wisdom expected to rejoin the Cactus League lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The 32-year-old also missed time early in camp due to quadriceps tightness, but he's hit well when available, going 6-for-16 with two homers in six spring games.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Back in lineup
Wisdom (quadriceps) is in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's spring training game against the Rockies. Wisdom has been held out since Feb. 27 due to tightness in his right quad, but he felt good after participating in a sim game Tuesday and has been given the green light to return to the Cactus League. Wisdom was just 1-for-8 across three games before getting injured, and he figures to operate as a reserve player for the Cubs heading into the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Plays in sim game Tuesday
Wisdom (quadricep) took at-bats in a simulated game Tuesday and is building back up to being ready for game action, MLB.com reports. Wisdom has played in only three Cactus League games, and there's no clear timetable for his return, but this is still promising news. The veteran seems like he should be healthy by the start of the regular season, though he'll likely have to settle for a reserve role due to the Cubs adding some corner infield depth in the offseason and Christopher Morel pushing for more playing time as well.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: No longer playing Tuesday
Wisdom (quad) isn't feeling well enough to return to Cactus League action as hoped Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Wisdom had a flare-up with his right quad last week and hasn't progressed as quickly as hoped. He remains day-to-day, but it's unclear when he might be ready for games. Wisdom figures to see most of his starts for the Cubs this season against left-handed pitching.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Expected back Tuesday
Wisdom (quad) is expected to play in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Royals, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. Wisdom was scratched from Thursday's game against the Rockies due to right quadriceps tightness. It was a precautionary measure, and the infielder is expected to only miss a few days. In 302 plate appearances last season, Wisdom slashed .205/.289/.500 with 23 home runs and 46 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Battling quad tightness
Wisdom was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's Cactus League game against Colorado due to right quad tightness, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Wisdom's absence was described as precautionary, so his injury doesn't seem to be too severe. The Cubs may hold him out of the lineup for the next couple of exhibition games, but Wisdom should be able to return and continue competing for a roster spot soon. The 32-year-old is currently 1-for-8 with a double across three games in Cactus League play.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Scratched from lineup
Wisdom was scratched from the Cubs' Cactus League lineup Thursday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. There's no word yet on why Wisdom was removed from the lineup, but the Cubs should offer an explanation soon. Matt Mervis will move from the designated hitter spot to take Wisdom's place at first base, while Pablo Aliendo will enter the lineup at DH.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Avoids arbitration with Cubs
Wisdom avoided arbitration Friday with the Cubs on a one-year, $2.725 million contract, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. Wisdom isn't a perfect player, but he hit 23 home runs over 97 games in 2023 and carries a .474 slugging percentage over the last three seasons. He'll again be a dangerous bench bat and corner-infield platoon option for Chicago in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes deep in win
Wisdom went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Brewers. Wisdom also struck out twice in the contest, making this game a good representation of what the 32-year-old brings to the plate. He's batting .205 this season and has struck out nearly 37 percent of the time. Wisdom has struck out at least 34 percent of the time each of the last three seasons. His inability to make consistent contact limits his fantasy upside moving forward, as he seems ticketed for a part-time role where he provides some pop but little else.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Provides boost Sunday
Wisdom went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. Wisdom helped the Cubs overcome a 3-1 deficit during a three-run sixth inning, with his 22nd home run of the season serving as the big blow. It was the 32-year-old's first long ball this month, however, as he's slipped into a bench role in Chicago, though playing time is available in the short term for however long Jeimer Candelario (back) and Nick Madrigal (hamstring) are out.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Hits 21st home run Monday
Wisdom went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Brewers. Appearing in a game for just the fourth time in the last two weeks, Wisdom managed his 21st home run of the season. His career high is 28, though he seems unlikely to reach that number in his smaller role, which has been the result of Jeimer Candelario joining the team at the trade deadline. Wisdom can still provide some pop, but his fantasy appeal is diminished as a bench player.... See More ... See Less
