However, it sounds like he'll be back in action Sunday and appears to have avoided a significant injury. He's in the midst of a breakout campaign at the age of 31, slashing .320/.415/.483 with 10 home runs across 317 plate appearances.

Profar dealt with a knee injury earlier in June, and he didn't appear to be running at full strength to begin Friday's game. As a result, the Padres replaced him after a one-out double with the score tied 5-5 in the seventh. Profar could end up getting additional time off this weekend.

Manager Mike Shildt disclosed after the contest that Profar has been battling patellar tendinitis in the knee for years, but the 31-year-old aggravated the injury on a swing during his eighth-inning at-bat. Though Shildt downplayed the knee issue, the skipper admitted that he was unsure if Profar -- who leads the National League with a .424 on-base percentage -- would require imaging on the knee, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Jose Azocar will cover left field Wednesday in place of Profar, whose status will presumably be updated following Thursday's team off day.
