Machado went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers. Machado has multiple hits in four of his last five games, going 10-for-21 in that span. The third baseman was batting just .240 at the start of June, but he's pushed that up to .263 with a .704 OPS, seven home runs, five stolen bases, 37 RBI and 32 runs scored across 72 contests this season. While his power production has been a career low so far, the 31-year-old could still put together a surge over the second half of the campaign.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Manny Machado: Slugs seventh homer
Machado went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Thursday's win over Milwaukee. Machado jumped on a four-seamer from Bryse Wilson with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and sent it into the stands in right field to put San Diego up 3-1. The third baseman would also add a single, giving him his third multi-hit performance in his last four games. Machado is now up to seven homers on the season, though Thursday's long ball was only his second since May 3.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Gets ejected Sunday
Machado was ejected from Sunday's game against the Mets in the sixth inning for arguing balls and strikes. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two strikeouts. Padres manager Mike Shildt was also tossed from the game after leaving the dugout to argue with the home plate umpire. Machado slammed his bat in frustration with the called third strike but didn't make any contact with the umpire, so he shouldn't be subject to any further punishment from MLB.... See More ... Padres' Manny Machado: Returns to third base Saturday
Machado started at third base and went 0-for-4 in a loss to the Mets on Saturday. Machado recently missed four games due to a strained right hip flexor and was limited to DH duties in four straight contests following his return. The veteran was able to resume playing the field Saturday, though he didn't look like he was up to full speed while running out a grounder in the seventh inning. It's unclear how much the hip issue is bothering Machado, as he's batting just .200 (4-for-20) with no runs or RBI and seven strikeouts since returning to the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Records two hits in return
Machado went 2-for-4 in Monday's 6-1 win against Oakland. Machado missed four games due to a strained right hip flexor before returning to the lineup as the Padres' designated hitter Monday. He singled in his first at-bat and reached third base on an ensuing single and walk. Machado notched another single in the seventh and again reached third on a pair of singles before being pulled for a pinch runner, though that decision didn't appear to be related to a worsening of the hip issue. It's unclear when Machado may be asked to play the field again.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Returning to lineup Monday
Padres manager Mike Shildt said in an interview on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Machado (hip) will be back in the lineup Monday versus the Athletics as the team's designated hitter. Machado was held out of the lineup for the previous four games due to a strained right hip flexor, although he was able to pinch hit once over that stretch. He will be eased back into the mix Monday as the club's DH, with a return to third base coming "hopefully sooner than later," per Shildt.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Absence continuing Sunday
Machado (hip) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Diamondbacks, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Machado continues to nurse a strained right hip flexor and will sit Sunday for the fourth straight game. The 31-year-old appeared as a pinch hitter in the first of those absences Thursday but otherwise hasn't seen game action since he suffered the injury Wednesday. Donovan Solano is receiving another start at the hot corner in the series finale against Arizona.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Sitting out third straight
Machado (hip) isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. Machado will miss his third start in a row Saturday, although he was able to participate in pregame drills for the first time since straining his right hip flexor Wednesday, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Donovan Solano will continue to fill in for Machado at third base, batting fifth against right-hander Ryne Nelson.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Still out of lineup
Machado (hip) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Machado sustained a mild right hip flexor strain Wednesday against the Angels, and the 31-year-old will sit again Friday. While he didn't start in the series opener against Arizona on Thursday, Machado did pinch hit for Kyle Higashioka in the eighth inning and grounded out to the pitcher. While Machado begins Friday's game in the dugout, Donovan Solano will start at third base and bat fifth against Diamonbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Appears as pinch hitter
Machado (hip) entered Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks as a pinch hitter and grounded out to the pitcher, AJ Cassavell of MLB.comreports. Machado was held out of Thursday's lineup after suffering a hip flexor strain Wednesday. He is considered day-to-day and was expected to be unavailable Thursday. The fact that he was able to pinch hit is a positive sign, though it's still unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Remains out of lineup
Machado (hip) is not in the Padres' lineup versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Machado suffered the hip flexor strain during the fourth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels as he hustled to first base in an effort to beat out a double play. The 31-year-old is considered day-to-day, and it seems he has avoided any significant damage. Tyler Wade will start in his place at third base and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Considered day-to-day
Manager Mike Shildt said that Machado is day-to-day with a mild right hip flexor strain after exiting in the fourth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-2 prior to leaving the game. Machado suffered the injury while hustling to first base in an effort to beat out a potential double play in the fourth inning. Though he was able to reach base on a fielder's choice, Machado was forced from the game, with Donovan Solano coming off the bench to pinch run for him. Fortunately, Machado appears to have avoided any significant damage, but it's possible the Padres hold him out of Thursday's series opener against Arizona to aid his recovery. The 31-year-old has gone 8-for-22 with four RBI and two stolen bases across his last seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Injures leg Wednesday
Machado was removed from Wednesday's game against the Angels due to an apparent leg injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Machado suffered the injury while running to first base on an attempt to beat out a double play during the fourth inning. The slugging third baseman likely tweaked something in his lower body while running, but the Padres should clarify the nature of Machado's injury relatively soon.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Three more hits Tuesday
Machado went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Angels. Machado notched his first three-hit game of the year and managed to swipe a base for a second straight game. He drove in the Padres' first run of the game in the third, which makes it four RBI over his last five games. He's been extremely locked in at the plate over the last few weeks, slashing .344/.420/.492 with nine RBI, seven runs and an 8:11 BB:K in 69 plate appearances since May 19.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Goes deep, swipes bag
Machado went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Angels. Machado's solo shot in the first inning was the lone run for the Padres in Monday's loss. He was intentionally walked twice and also stole his fourth base of the year. The long ball snapped a brutal 26-game drought since his last homer May 3; during that cold streak, he posted a .591 OPS. Machado is now slashing .242/.307/.372 with 17 extra-base hits and 32 RBI through 244 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Hitting fifth Friday
Machado will start at third base and bat fifth in Friday's game in Atlanta. It's only the second time over the past nine seasons that Machado has batted lower than cleanup. The 31-year-old is in the middle of a 2-for-30 stretch at the plate to drop his season slash line to .222/.276/.346.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Taking seat Monday
Machado is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. Machado will get a day off after he had started in nine straight games after returning from the paternity list April 26. Donovan Solano will step in at third base Monday in his first start with the Padres.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Belts homer Friday
Machado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a walk Friday in a 7-1 victory versus Arizona. Machado accounted for the Padres' final two runs in the victory with his fifth-inning blast. The homer extended his hitting streak to five games, though he's notched exactly one hit in each contest and is batting just .238 during that stretch. Machado does have six RBI during the hitting streak, though, which is more than he had accumulated in his previous 20 games combined.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Not starting Thursday
Machado (personal) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies. Since Machado has already spent the maximum three days on the paternity list, he needs to be activated Thursday, but the Padres have yet to officially announce the move. Even if the Padres add Machado back to the 26-man roster Thursday, he'll still be available only as a bench player before likely making his return to the lineup against the Phillies this weekend, when the team returns to San Diego. Jurickson Profar will serve as the Friars' designated hitter Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Manny Machado: Goes yard again Sunday
Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Dodgers. Machado opened up the scoring with a deep drive to center field in the fourth off James Paxton and later singled and scored in the sixth. Sunday was the first time since April 6 he did not strike out, and he's now riding an eight-game hit streak while slashing .333/.371/.545 with two homers, three RBI and seven runs scored over that span....
