  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Back in majors

The Guardians recalled McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

McCaughan was dispatched back to Triple-A on Monday after appearing in one game for the Guardians. He'll now return to the majors to replace Xzavion Curry, who was optioned to Columbus in a corresponding move. McCaughan has allowed 10 earned runs in 6.2 MLB innings between Cleveland and Miami, and he'll almost certainly be limited to low-leverage opportunities during his stint in the bigs.

  • Xzavion Curry SP | CLE

Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Optioned to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Curry to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Curry took the loss out of the bullpen for the Guardians on Wednesday versus the Orioles and finds himself back in the minors a day later. He'll be replaced by a fresh bullpen arm in Darren McCaughan.

  • Will Brennan RF | CLE

Guardians' Will Brennan: To IL with strained oblique

The Guardians placed Brennan on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained oblique.

Brennan last played on Monday and evidently must have tweaked his oblique during that game in Baltimore. He will be eligible to return late next week, but with the severity of the strain not known, it's uncertain as to when he might be able to return. Daniel Schneemann, Gabriel Arias and Jhonkensy Noel could all pick up more at-bats while Brennan is out.

  • Jose Tena SS | CLE

Guardians' Jose Tena: Up from Triple-A

The Guardians recalled Tena from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Tena has spent all season in Triple-A, slashing .290/.337/.477 with 14 homers and 56 RBI across 326 plate appearances. He'll now come up from the minors to give Cleveland some additional infield depth, though he likely won't see many opportunities while in the big leagues. Will Brennan (oblique) was placed on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • DJ LeMahieu 3B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Out of Yankees lineup

LeMahieu is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto.

LeMahieu is still without an extra-base hit this season and has tallied just one single across his last five games. Oswaldo Cabrera will occupy third base for the Yankees in their series opener versus the Blue Jays.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | NYY

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Riding bench again Thursday

Torres is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone had intimated after not starting Torres on Wednesday that the second baseman might get an additional day off to regroup, and the skipper has done just that. Torres is in a 2-for-29 slump at the plate and has also had some defensive lapses. Jahmai Jones is getting a rare start at the keystone Thursday.

  • Danny Jansen C | TOR

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Out of Thursday's lineup

Jansen isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup Thursday against the Yankees.

Jansen broke an 0-for-12 skid with a double during Wednesday's victory, and he'll now get a breather for Thursday's series opener. Alejandro Kirk will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Sitting Thursday versus lefty

Horwitz isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Yankees.

With left-hander Carlos Rodon on the mound for New York, the lefty-hitting Horwitz will begin Thursday's contest on the bench. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will shift to second base as a result, allowing Ernie Clement to start at third while batting ninth.

  • Daulton Varsho LF | TOR

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Back in lineup

Varsho is starting in center field and batting seventh Thursday against the Yankees.

Varsho tweaked his back during Saturday's loss and has had to sit out the Blue Jays' last three games, but he seems to be feeling better ahead of Thursday's matchup. The 27-year-old outfielder went just 1-for-19 with six strikeouts across his last five games prior to getting hurt.

  • Mike Clevinger SP | CHW

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Rehab paused due to stiff neck

Clevinger's (elbow) next rehab start has been pushed back to next week due to neck stiffness, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.

Clevinger last pitched with Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, when he allowed five runs and threw 71 pitches over 4.2 innings. The White Sox are hopeful that he will need just one more rehab start before rejoining their rotation, although that will be dependent on how he looks and feels. Clevinger is targeting 70-to-80 pitches in next week's rehab start.
