Mariners' Cole Young: Swipes first bag in win

Young went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Rangers.

Young came on strong late, driving in two runs, stealing his first base of the season and scoring a run all in the eighth inning. The 22-year-old has now hit safely in three straight games after going hitless in his previous four. On the season, he's slashing .243/.349/.378 with two home runs, 11 RBI, 14 runs scored and a stolen base across 86 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Hits fourth homer Saturday

Montgomery went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, walk and hit-by-pitch in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Athletics.

Montgomery got the scoring started in this one, taking Luis Severino deep for a solo shot to lead off the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded in the top of the 11th, Montgomery struck out. The second-year shortstop continues to struggle to hit for average as an all-or-nothing type at the plate. Montgomery is slashing just .194/.310/.417 with four homers, 12 RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and an 8:27 BB:K across 84 plate appearances. He's struck out at least once in 16 of 21 contests and has multiple strikeouts in eight of those.

Astros' Nick Allen: Scratched due to back issue

Allen was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to back spasms, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Allen was originally in Saturday's lineup but ultimately was unable to take the field. Original reports suggested he was available for Saturday's game, though it appears that likely wasn't the case. The severity of the issue is not clear.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Swats second homer in win

Wilson went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox.

After going homer-less in the first 17 games of the season, Wilson has now gone deep in two of the last four contests after he took an Erick Fedde cutter over the wall in the second inning. Wilson hit just .196 across the first 12 games this season but is 12-for-25 (.480) over his last eight games. He has six multi-hit games in that span and is now slashing .256/.264/.360 with two homers, 10 RBI, nine runs scored, one stolen base and a 1:11 BB:K across 87 trips to the plate.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Cracks three-run homer

Rocchio went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run during the Guardians' 4-2 win over the Orioles on Saturday.

It was the third home run of the season for Rocchio and extended his hitting streak to five games. In that five-game span, he has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with five RBI and four runs scored.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Astros' Nick Allen: Available off bench

Allen did not suffer an injury and is available off the bench for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Allen was originally in the lineup for Saturday's game, starting at shortstop while hitting ninth. However, he did not take the field with the starters, with Shay Whitcomb taking Allen's spot. The move appears to be discretionary, as the team has advised that Allen did not suffer an injury.

  • Shay Whitcomb SS | HOU

Astros' Shay Whitcomb: Enters Saturday's lineup

Whitcomb is starting at third base in Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Whitcomb wasn't in the original lineup and the Astros never announced a change. However, he took the field with the rest of Houston's starters and is manning third base while hitting ninth. Nick Allen (undisclosed) was removed from the lineup.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

    Astros' Nick Allen: Late scratch

Allen did not start Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Allen was originally slated to start the game at shortstop while hitting ninth. The Astros never announced a change to the lineup, but Carlos Correa took the field at shortstop with Shay Whitcomb manning the hot corner. It's unclear if Allen suffered an injury or if the team just made a change to its lineup.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Early season struggles continue

Story went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during the Red Sox's 4-1 loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

Story served as the designated hitter for Saturday's bout, though that shift didn't pay off as he was struck out in all three of his at-bats against Tarik Skubal. Story has gone 0-for-9 with six strikeouts over the first two games of the series and is slashing .188/.202/.306 with one steal, two home runs, 17 RBI and a 30.6 percent strikeout rate over 89 plate appearances this season.

  • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Two hits at Fenway Park

McGonigle went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored during the Tigers' 4-1 win over the Red Sox on Saturday.

McGonigle came around to score in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Kerry Carpenter, and the former extended the Tigers' lead to 4-0 with an RBI single in the fourth. McGonigle inked an eight-year, $150 million contract extension with the Tigers on Wednesday and is making that move look more and more like a bargain as his rookie season progresses. He is slashing .312/.411/.481 with one steal, one home run, nine RBI and a 13:11 BB:K over 90 plate appearances.
