The Rockets trailed for most of the game and were down 108-100 with just under five minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Durant helped lead a comeback and put his team ahead for good at 115-113 with 1:42 left on the clock. It's the third time in nine games that the 37-year-old forward has scored more than 30 points, while the seven assists were a season high. Durant is averaging 24.8 points, 4.6 boards, 3.1 assists, 1.7 threes, 1.0 steals and 0.8 blocks to begin his tenure with Houston.

Durant delivered 23 points in the Opening Night loss to the Thunder, and even though this 37-point outburst didn't prevent the Rockets from remaining winless, it was strong proof of what Durant can bring to the table for Houston. The veteran forward should continue to operate as the Rockets' go-to option offensively, even ahead of Alperen Sengun, based on what he's shown in his first outings of the campaign.
Durant recorded 23 points (9-16 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds and three assists in 47 minutes before fouling out of Tuesday's 125-124 double-overtime loss to Oklahoma City.
Durant, who just recently signed a two-year, $90 million extension, had a solid start to his Houston career. His usage rate of 20.7 percent was the fourth highest on the team, and both Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun logged more shot attempts from the field in what was a very-balanced attack from Houston. Even at age 37, Durant still looks to have a ton of gas left in the tank.
Durant (rest) will start at shooting guard against the Thunder on Tuesday, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.
After resting in the preseason finale Thursday, Durant will be in the Opening Night lineup with no restrictions. He'll be starting in a jumbo lineup featuring Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith, Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams. Durant will likely get plenty of playmaking duties on top of his responsibility as the No. 1 option on offense.

The Rockets signed Durant to a two-year, $90 million extension Sunday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Signs had been pointing toward Durant and the Rockets agreeing to an extension, and on Sunday the two sides finalized a two-year deal that reportedly includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. The veteran forward was acquired from the Suns in June in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and six draft picks. While Durant's final season in Phoenix was a disappointment from a team standpoint, the future Hall of Famer still delivered strong production, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep across 62 regular-season games.
