  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Late scratch Sunday

Davis was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

The 31-year-old is likely perfectly healthy, but Juan Soto's (hand) late addition to the starting nine will bump Davis from the lineup. He's gone 1-for-9 with a double, two walks, an RBI and a run in three games since being acquired by the Yankees last weekend.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Expected to platoon at first base

Davis is expected to be used in a platoon at first base with the Yankees, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Davis was traded to New York on Sunday after being designated for assignment by the Athletics earlier in the week. Manager Aaron Boone said that Davis will be used in a timeshare at first base with Ben Rice while Anthony Rizzo (arm) is unavailable, entering the lineup when the Yankees face left-handers. The 31-year-old has produced a .265 average with a .795 OPS over 37 plate appearances against southpaws this season.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Acquired by Yankees

The Yankees acquired Davis and cash considerations from the Athletics on Sunday in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans.

After seeing his playing time steadily decrease, Davis was DFA'd by the Athletics on Monday. The Yankees will make room on the 40-man roster for Davis, marking the third organization he's been with since the start of spring training after the Athletics previously signed him following his release from the Giants in March. He appeared in 39 games for the Athletics before losing his roster spot, slashing .236/.304/.366 with four home runs and five RBI over 135 plate appearances. To make room for Davis on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-hander Nick Burdi (hip) to the 60-day injured list.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: On base three times in loss

Davis went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run during a loss to the Twins in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

Davis drew an increasingly rare start at third base and delivered his first multi-hit effort since May 24. The veteran has been displaced from the starting nine more often than not since late May, logging a total of just 17 plate appearances across six games since the calendar flipped to June. Davis is capable of playing both corner infield spots in addition to serving as the designated hitter, but younger assets Tyler Soderstrom, Abraham Toro and Brent Rooker are currently the preferred options at those respective positions.

  • Athletics' J.D. Davis: Designated for assignment

Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Davis will now be available to be claimed off waivers and if he has no takers, Oakland is expected to release the 31-year-old. After being released by the Giants in March, Davis compiled a .236 average with four home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored over 123 at-bats in 39 games with the Athletics this season.
