The Phillies selected Salas' contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley ahead of Thursday's game against the Dodgers.
Philadelphia already had an existing opening on the 40-man roster, so no corresponding transaction was needed to clear room for Salas. He and Cole Irvin will report to the Philadelphia bullpen, offering the big club a pair of fresh arms after five relievers were needed to cover the final 6.2 innings of Wednesday's 7-2 loss. Two of those relievers -- Austin Davis and Edgar Garcia -- were sent down to Triple-A to open up spots on the active roster for Salas and Irvin.

After being designated for assignment over the weekend, Salas passed through waivers unclaimed, and the Diamondbacks apparently had no interest in stashing him in the minors. Salas has already factored into eight decisions through 30 relief appearances this season, but aside from the four wins, there isn't much in his profile to get excited about from a fantasy standpoint. He's striking out only 7.2 batters per nine innings and has proven far too hittable, with opposing batters slashing .326/.407/.732 against him.

After surrendering 10 runs over a five-game span earlier this month, Salas seems to have righted the ship of late with three consecutive scoreless appearances. That being said, Salas' flyball tendencies and mediocre strikeout rate make him a fairly volatile reliever, so don't expect manager Torey Lovullo to regularly rely on the 32-year-old in high-leverage spots.

Salas notched his second hold of the season after retiring both of the batters he faced Tuesday in the Diamondbacks' 8-5 win over the Dodgers in 12 innings.
Salas was the first of eight relievers to take the hill for the Diamondbacks on the night, coming on for starter Zack Godley with two outs and one on in the sixth inning. After striking out Austin Barnes to end the threat, Salas came back out for the bottom of the seventh and induced a Chris Taylor flyout before giving way to Jorge De La Rosa for a lefty-on-lefty matchup. Salas is expected to see most of his use this season in the middle innings, so don't expect him to regularly be in the mix for holds.

Salas gave up a hit and struck out a batter during a scoreless seventh inning in the Diamondbacks' 9-1 win over the Dodgers on Saturday.
With four consecutive scoreless appearances and a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 10.2 innings this season, Salas has been a dependable relief arm through the first two-plus weeks of the campaign. While Brad Boxberger, Archie Bradley and Yoshihisa Hirano are the clear top three relievers in the bullpen, Salas is probably the next man in the pecking order and will continue to see ample usage in middle relief. Though he's already picked up two wins, Salas doesn't profile as a particularly intriguing fantasy option due to his low strikeout rate and the issues he has had with limiting home runs in past seasons.

Salas was credited with the win in the Diamondbacks' 8-7 victory Monday over the Dodgers in 15 innings. He tossed the final three frames for Arizona, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.
Salas was on the hook for the loss after giving up an RBI single to Chase Utley in the top half of the 15th, but the right-hander's teammates bailed him out with two runs in the bottom of the inning to get him into the win column. After throwing 84 pitches over the past three days, Salas seems unlikely to be available for the final two games of Arizona's series with Los Angeles.

Salas gave up a tie-breaking solo home run to Charlie Blackmon during his two innings of relief to take the loss Saturday against the Rockies.
The eighth-inning home run -- Blackmon's second solo blast of the night -- was the only mistake Salas made, as the right-hander retired each of the other six batters he faced. After a strong spring, Salas seems to have earned the trust of manager Torey Lovullo in the later innings, but the 32-year-old could quickly fall down the bullpen pecking order if he's unable to curb his issues with the long ball.
