Abrams went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Monday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.

The streaky leadoff hitter has drawn five free passes over the last three games, and over his last 20 contests Abrams is slashing a blistering .408/.512/.690 with three homers, five steals, 15 RBI and 18 runs. The peaks have outweighed the valleys so far in 2024 for the 23-year-old shortstop -- Abrams' .860 OPS is nearly a 150-point improvement on his .712 mark from last season.

The Marlins designated Anderson for assignment Tuesday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Miami giving Anderson a modest one-year, $5 million contract in hopes that he could have a bounce-back season seemed like a no-brainer. The rebound didn't come, as Anderson slashed a hideous .214/.237/.226 with no home runs and a 68:7 K:BB over 65 games. He will clear waivers and eventually be released, at which point another club could take a chance on him at the prorated veteran minimum salary. It's no given that Anderson will receive that opportunity, however, considering his .544 OPS since the start of the 2023 campaign. Vidal Brujan could get a shot at shortstop for the Marlins with Anderson out of the picture, with Xavier Edwards also potentially in the mix.

Abrams went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

The Nationals had only three hits on the afternoon, so while Abrams was busy on the basepaths, his efforts couldn't generate any offense. The 23-year-old shortstop had been slumping heading into June, but he wrapped up the month with a dazzling .373/.464/.663 slash line in 97 plate appearances, adding four of his 13 homers on the season and six of his 14 steals.

Alexander entered Sunday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-1 with two RBI in a 5-1 win over the Athletics.

The score was tied when manager Torey Lovullo had Alexander, who was 0-for-8 during the series and 0-for-9 on the homestand, pinch hit for Joc Pederson with the bases loaded. The A's countered with righty reliever Austin Adams, a former Diamondback with whom Lovullo is familiar, and Alexander delivered a single through a drawn-in infield to give Arizona the lead. Alexander has scuffled of late, going 3-for-33 (.091) with zero RBI over the last 12 games and is down to .259 for the season.

Turner went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Marlins.

Turner gave himself the best birthday present by driving in the go-ahead runs in Sunday's win. He hit a two-run single in the seventh to complete the Phillies comeback after trailing 6-2. Turner has had three multi-hit games over his last five and at least one hit in 10 of his last 12. The veteran has been doing very well since returning from the injured list June. 17 and is now hitting .332/.380/.453 for the season.

Ahmed will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Ahmed will pick up his third consecutive start, with Sunday's assignment coming against a lefty (James Paxton) after the prior two had come versus right-handed pitching. Though he had previously been occupying a short-side platoon role at shortstop with Brett Wisely, Ahmed should have shortstop all to himself for the foreseeable future with Wisely having moved over to second base following Thairo Estrada's (wrist) placement on the injured list Friday.

Wisely is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

The lefty-hitting Wisely will take a seat in favor of the righty-hitting Tyler Fitzgerald, who will cover second base while the Giants face off against southpaw James Paxton. Though he's still holding down a strong-side platoon role in the middle infield, Wisely's run as the Giants' primary leadoff man versus right-handed pitching has come to an end in the wake of LaMonte Wade's return from the injured list Friday. Wade had actually batted second both of the previous two days against right-handed pitching, but Jorge Soler moved into the leadoff spot while Wisely dropped to eighth in the order.

Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's 4-2 win over Atlanta.

Cruz hit a 452-foot missile off Spencer Schwellenbach in the fifth inning to give the Pirates a lead they wouldn't relinquish. It was the third-longest homer of his career, and it had an exit velocity of 117.3 MPH, which is also the third-hardest of his career. There have been five home runs with exit velocities of 117 or more this season, and Cruz has two of them. The 25-year-old has three long balls over his last seven games, and he's up to 12 homers, 36 RBI, six steals and 36 runs for the season.

Rojas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

For the first time since Mookie Betts landed on the 10-day injured list June 17 with a fractured wrist, Rojas will head to the bench. While taking over as the Dodgers' everyday shortstop over the past two weeks, Rojas slashed a robust .350/.386/.450 with four extra-base hits (all doubles) over a stretch of 11 starts. Enrique Hernandez will occupy shortstop Sunday in Rojas' stead.

Fitzgerald recorded a stolen base as a pinch runner in Saturday's 14-7 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers.

Fitzgerald joined the Giants as extra infield depth when Thairo Estrada (wrist) went on the injured list Friday. It's likely Fitzgerald will mostly provide speed and defensive versatility off the bench, though he should be in line for some starts versus southpaws. He's in the lineup versus lefty James Paxton on Sunday, starting at second base over Brett Wisely. Fitzgerald is slashing .273/.333/.409 with six steals and six extra-base hits across 72 plate appearances this year.
