Warning: You might need sunglasses to look at this post.

One of the great parts of the offseason is getting to see all the new masks that goalies will take onto the ice in the upcoming season. Although some made their way out over the summer and beyond, we were mostly too distracted by the stupid lockout to notice. It deprived me, a former goalie-wannabe, of the great joy of seeing what art the goalies and the painters have come up with.

We can turn our attention back to that with the season just a couple of days away and goaltenders showing off their new cages in training camp. But don't turn your attention all the way; you don't want to look at this one directly.

Panthers backup goaltender Scott Clemmensen was re-signed last summer, and he's really getting into the Sunshine State spirit. George Richards was brave enough to take pictures of Clemmensen's mask.

The back of the mask. (George Richards)

Assuming you can still read this, you can tell that it is covered in sunshine with a few items over top. On the side shown above is one of the Panthers' logos, paying homage to hockey in paradise. The other side has initials of his family members.

The back panel is a tribute to Jimmy Buffet. If you're going to be a Parrothead as a hockey player, then where better to sign than Florida?

Personally, I think the whole goal is to blind the opposing shooters. Whatever works, right?
