Rookie QB Brandon Weeden passed for a career-high 364 yards and the Cleveland Browns put an end to their 12-game road losing streak, beating the Oakland Raiders 20-17 on Sunday.

The Browns (4-8, 2-3 AFC North) ended their road skid where it began last season with a 24-17 loss to the Raiders at the O.co Coliseum. They won a road game for the first time since beating Indianapolis 27-19 in Week 2 last season. They won two straight games overall for the first time since beating the Colts then the Dolphins early last year.

The Raiders (3-9, 1-2 AFC West) lost their fifth straight game and were eliminated from playoff contention. They had more bad news off the field. Coach Dennis Allen's father, former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Grady Allen, is seriously ill and in the intensive care unit of a Dallas-Fort Worth area hospital. Allen left for Dallas after the game but expects to be back Wednesday night and coach the team Thursday night against Denver. Until Allen returns, offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will be in charge.

The Browns led 10-0 in the second quarter and 13-3 with 9:51 left in the third. But they couldn't put the Raiders away and saw their lead cut to 13-10 when Raiders QB Carson Palmer hit WR Rod Streater with a 64-yard touchdown pass late in the quarter.

The Browns, though, came up with a key interception by CB Sheldon Brown and iced the game with a 94-yard TD drive in the fourth.

The Browns dealt with some sad off-field news as well, the suicide of team employee Eric Eucker, a member of the grounds crew. "This is a terrible tragedy and our heartfelt condolences go out to Eric's family," the Browns said in a statement. "Eric was a good friend and colleague, and an outstanding employee. He will be missed by everyone in the Cleveland Browns' organization."

When the game turned: Trailing 13-10, the Raiders had the momentum and a first down at the Browns' 33. In an instant, both were gone. Palmer threw a deep pass down the left sideline to rookie WR Juron Criner, but Browns CB Brown picked it off at the 6. Then the Browns went 94 yards in 14 plays for a touchdown, icing the game.

Highlight moment: Browns rookie WR Josh Gordon beat Raiders veteran CB Ron Bartell and caught a 44-yard TD pass from QB Weeden with 10:25 left in the first half. Gordon beat Bartell's press coverage, and streaked wide open down the left sideline where Weeden hit him in stride.

Top-shelf performances:

  • Raiders TE Brandon Myers -- team-record tying 14 catches for 130 yards, TD

  • Raiders WR Streater -- 3 catches for 96 yards, TD

What they said about the Browns' 94-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter:

  • Raiders coach Allen -- "Listen, when you have them first-and-94 we have to make a stop. There was a critical third down in that series that they converted to keep the drive alive. Third down overall in the game was pretty good defensively. That was a critical play in the game. We have to find a way to get off the field and stop them in those situations.

  • Browns QB Weeden -- "It was, I think up to this point, probably the biggest drive of the year. The way we were going, our defense played great all day. We got a great catch for a touchdown. We kind of felt like we got down there a couple times but we weren't able to capitalize. So we felt like we needed to do our part and rebound and drive down the field. Overall, I think it's probably the biggest drive of the year for us. We strung together some good plays."

Numbers you should know: The Browns rolled up 475 total yards of offense to 429 for the Raiders.

Injury update: Raiders -- S Matt Giordano, S Mike Mitchell and CB Phillip Adams suffered concussions and were forced out of the game. They'll have to go through the concussion protocol and be cleared by doctors before they can practice or play. RBs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson were inactive because of high-ankle sprains and missed their fourth straight games. Allen expects them to play Thursday night. Browns -- The Browns had no significant injuries, Shurmur said.

Going forward: Browns -- The Browns return home to play Kansas City then Washington in their home finale. They finish with road games at Denver and Pittsburgh. Raiders -- The Raiders have another home game in just four days, facing the red-hot Denver Broncos on Thursday night. After that, they play Kansas City in their final home game before hitting the road to face Carolina and San Diego.
