Cardinals' Chris Roycroft: Returns to Triple-A
The Cardinals optioned Roycroft to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
Roycroft will return to Memphis after he was called up ahead of the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with Atlanta to serve as the Cardinals' 27th man for the twin bill. He struck out two and collected his first career hold in a perfect inning of the bullpen in the Cardinals' 4-1 win in Game 2.

Cardinals' Chris Roycroft: Up as 27th man
The Cardinals recalled Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
He will serve as the team's 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta. Roycroft has collected a 3.07 ERA and 13:8 K:BB over 14.2 relief innings with the Cardinals this season. He'll likely be sent back down to Triple-A following the doubleheader.

Roycroft has done a decent job in the majors since being called back up to St. Louis on June 4, allowing just one run in 8.2 innings. However, he'll be sent back down to Triple-A in favor of Adam Kloffenstein, as the Cardinals look to keep their bullpen stocked with fresh arms.

Roycroft (1-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over two-thirds of an inning to take a blown save and the extra-inning loss versus the Marlins on Tuesday.
Due to recent workloads, the Cardinals were short in the bullpen Tuesday, leaving Roycroft to protect a one-run lead in the 10th inning. It didn't work out, as the right-hander saw his 6.2-inning scoreless streak come to an end. It's his first blown save, though he's still done a decent job at run prevention this year with a 3.38 ERA over 13.1 innings. He has a less-impressive 1.65 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB while mainly working in a low-leverage role.

Cardinals' Chris Roycroft: Picks up first win
Roycroft (1-0) allowed a hit but didn't given up a run over two-thirds of an inning Thursday, earning the win over the Pirates.
Roycroft gave up four runs over six innings during his first stint on the Cardinals' roster, but he's been much better the second time around. He's on a 5.1-inning scoreless streak over his last five appearances, allowing just three hits with a 6:0 K:BB in that span. The 26-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB through 11.1 innings overall while serving in a low-leverage role. Roycroft has been steady, but he's at risk of losing his place in the majors soon, as Giovanny Gallegos (shoulder) and Riley O'Brien (forearm) are on rehab assignments while Nick Robertson (elbow) has resumed mound work within the last week.

Because the Orioles and Cardinals resumed Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday, both teams were allotted a 27th man for the contest that was initially scheduled for Wednesday. Roycroft will provide the Cardinals with a fresh arm out of the bullpen for the series finale but will likely be returned to Memphis immediately following the game.
