Hogan Harris reached the majors for the first time in 2023 after being a third-round pick back in 2018, and his first appearance was a disaster that saw him give up six runs and walk five in just a third of an inning. His remaining appearances were better by default with a few glimpses of competence, but the 6.32 ERA he registered in his following 13 appearances helps tell the story of just how much he struggled in the majority of his chances. He allowed hard contact 44.9 percent of the time, and the 27-year-old southpaw struck out under 20 percent of the hitters he faced. Harris will likely enter the year battling for a multi-inning relief spot, but no matter what his role is, there'll be no reason for roster consideration.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Quality start in loss

Harris (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings, taking the loss versus the Twins on Sunday. Harris gave up a solo home run and an RBI double to Byron Buxton to account for two of the three runs on his line. This was the second time this season Harris has completed six innings, and he's earned a quality start both times. The left-hander has maintained a 2.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB across 36.1 innings through seven appearances (five starts) this year. He's projected for a road start in Arizona his next time out.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Collects first win

Harris (1-0) allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Royals. Harris has generally pitched well this season, but he had nothing to show for it before Tuesday. He allowed a two-run home run to Nick Loftin in this contest. Harris hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last five outings, and he's at a 2.37 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB through 30.1 innings over six appearances (four starts) this season. The southpaw is projected to make his next start at home versus the Twins.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Strong in no-decision

Harris allowed three hits and two walks while striking out three over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Friday. Harris did well in his second start of the season, which ended up being a pitching duel against Toronto's Chris Bassitt. Harris previously allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out seven over 5.2 innings versus the Rays last Thursday. He's at a 2.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB through 20.1 innings over four appearances (two starts) this season. The southpaw looks to have done enough to maintain his spot in the rotation for a road start versus the Padres next week. Harris will likely continue to operate as a starter while the Athletics are missing both Ross Stripling (elbow) and Alex Wood (shoulder).

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Starting on Friday

Harris will start Friday's contest against the Blue Jays, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. The Athletics initially had Harris listed as their starter for Saturday's game and had Luis Medina slated to start Friday, but they've since been flipped in the pitching schedule. Harris struck out seven while yielding three runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings against the Rays last week in his first start of the season with Oakland. That came after he permitted four runs in nine frames covering two extended relief appearances.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Getting another start Saturday

Harris is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays in Oakland, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. The Athletics' decisions to designate Aaron Brooks for assignment over the weekend and to option Joe Boyle to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday after activating him from the injured list had already suggested that Harris was on track to remain in the rotation. Harris previously made two long-relief appearances for Oakland this season before drawing a start in Tampa Bay last Thursday, when he struck out seven and allowed three runs (one earned) over 5.2 frames in a no-decision. The southpaw has turned in a 7.67 ERA and 1.79 WHIP over his eight starts at Las Vegas this season and produced a 7.14 ERA over 63 innings in the big leagues in 2023, so fantasy managers should tread carefully with Harris for now even after his solid showing in his last outing.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Strikes out seven in first start

Harris did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Rays, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven. Harris gave up a pair of unearned runs on an Isaac Paredes homer with two outs in the first inning before holding Tampa to just one run over his final 4.2 frames while matching a career high with seven strikeouts. The 27-year-old Harris had allowed four runs in 8.2 innings in a long-relief role with Oakland earlier this year and struggled to a 7.67 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Las Vegas. Still, he could be in for another look in the A's rotation as they deal with a rash of injuries. The left-handed Harris would line up for a home start against Seattle in his next outing.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Sent back down

Harris was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. Harris was called up Wednesday and fired off 3.1 scoreless frames Thursday against the Astros. However, he'll go right back to Triple-A on Friday to make room for Brandon Bielak, who was acquired via trade Thursday. In 25 innings at Las Vegas, Harris owns a 7.56 ERA with 23 walks allowed.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Moves up from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. Harris was optioned to Las Vegas just one week earlier, but he'll be eligible to rejoin Oakland since he'll be taking the active roster spot of Alex Wood (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Wood's injury will create an opening in the rotation this weekend in Kansas City, and if Harris isn't used in relief Wednesday or Thursday in Houston, he could be a candidate to fill the void. Harris has started in all seven of his appearances for Las Vegas this season, logging a 7.56 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over 25 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Summoned from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Oakland placed right-handed starter Joe Boyle (back) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move, but Harris won't necessarily replace him in the rotation. Instead, the Athletics may just be bringing Harris aboard to provide some length out of the bullpen, even though the lefty has worked exclusively as a starter at Las Vegas this season. Over his six starts at Triple-A spanning 21 innings, Harris has provided a 9.00 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 21:20 K:BB.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Optioned to Triple-A

Harris was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Harris has appeared in two games with the Athletics this spring, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking two while striking out six batters. The 27-year-old will look to impress in Las Vegas in order to earn a shot with Oakland's major-league roster down the road.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Wins as bulk reliever

Harris (3-6) earned the win Tuesday in the Athletics' 5-4 victory over the Royals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings. Harris wasn't sharp, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes in the bulk-relief outing, but he was able to keep the Athletics ahead after they took the lead in the second inning. It's an improvement on the eight runs in three innings he gave up Aug. 2 versus the Dodgers in his previous major-league outing. Harris has an uninspiring 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 56:28 K:BB over 63 innings through 14 appearances (six starts) in the majors this year. With Luis Medina (finger) on the injured list, Harris could stick as part of the rotation even if he continues to work behind an opener. Harris is tentatively lined up for a favorable road outing versus the White Sox over the weekend.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Called up, set for bulk-relief role

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas, and he's expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Dany Jimenez in Tuesday's game against the Royals, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Oakland optioned right-handed reliever Tayler Scott to Las Vegas to make room on the active roster for Harris, who returns to the big club after a three-week stay in the minors. Harris was demoted to Triple-A after posting a 10.29 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in his final five outings with Oakland, and he didn't show any major improvements during his time in Las Vegas. He was lit up for 14 earned runs on 14 hits and seven walks over six innings in his last two starts at Triple-A, inspiring little confidence about his prospects for Tuesday. Jimenez will likely work no more than one or two innings before turning the game over to Harris.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Could join Oakland rotation

Harris could be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas this week to join Oakland's rotation, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Outside of a few brief stretches, Harris has had little success at both the big-league and Triple-A levels this season, but he looks poised to get another look in Oakland with yet another starter in Luis Medina (finger) going on the injured list Monday. The Athletics now have openings in the rotation for games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Royals, and Harris could be a candidate to start either of those days. Harris is well rested after having not pitched at Triple-A since Aug. 15.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Sent back to Triple-A

Oakland optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. Harris was lit up for eight earned runs over three innings in a brutal start Wednesday night against the Dodgers. The 26-year-old left-hander has posted a 6.98 ERA across his first 59.1 major-league innings this season.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Hit hard early

Harris (2-6) allowed eight runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two over three innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Dodgers. Harris turned in one of his worst outings of the year, giving up a season-high three home runs in the rough start. He's lost six of his last eight appearances, and with the Athletics among the worst teams in the majors, he can't rely on much support from his offense even when he's on his game. Harris is now at a 6.98 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB through 59.1 innings this season. He's tentatively lined up for another challenging start at home versus the Rangers next week.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Struggles in bulk relief

Harris allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings Saturday against the Twins. Harris took over in the second frame for opener Austin Pruitt, who gave up a pair of runs in his lone inning of work. Harris didn't fare much better, serving up five runs, including a two-run homer to Michael Taylor, over four innings. The southpaw has now given up four or more runs and walked at least three batters in each of his last four appearances. However, Hogan had allowed only eight runs in his last 28 innings prior to the poor four outings.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Hit hard by Jays

Harris didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering four runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings of relief. He struck out six. The lefty's strikeouts gave him a bit of a fantasy floor, and he avoided getting stuck with the loss, but only because opener Shintaro Fujinami had already put the A's in a hole they couldn't escape from before Harris set foot on the mound. The 26-year-old has held down a regular spot in the rotation in June, either as a traditional starter or bulk reliever, and the results have been mixed -- he has a 3.90 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB through 27.2 innings over five appearances. but all seven of those free passes came in two outings, making him a volatile option as a fantasy streamer. His next turn in the rotation lines up to come at home next weekend against the White Sox.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Pitches well in loss

Harris (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings, but he took the loss Sunday versus the Phillies. Harris got off to a rough start when Kyle Schwarber tagged him for a solo home run in the first inning. Schwarber added an RBI single in the fifth for the other run on Harris' line, but the Athletics' offense couldn't get him off the hook. This was Harris' second good outing in a row -- his last was a seven-inning effort behind an opener, so Sunday marked his first quality start. The 26-year-old owns a 4.45 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB through 28.1 innings this season, and he's given up just two homers. He's projected for a road start in Toronto for his next outing.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Strong work Tuesday

Harris (2-0) allowed a run on four hits and struck out two over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Rays. Harris was deployed behind opener Shintaro Fujinami, who pitched a scoreless first inning. Despite the bulk-relief assignment, Harris put in an excellent performance, throwing 63 of 84 pitches for strikes. He became the pitcher of record when Oakland pulled ahead in the eighth inning and Trevor May converted the save in a 2-1 game. This was the longest outing of Harris' career, and it was also one of his best, though the lack of strikeouts is a little concerning. He has a 4.84 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB over 22.1 innings through five outings this season. Harris may continue to work behind an opener in his next appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for a home game versus the Phillies this weekend.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Set for bulk role

Harris will serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Shintaro Fujinami in Tuesday's game versus the Rays, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Harris will follow Fujinami for the second time this month after he allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five batters over five innings June 2 in Miami. The 26-year-old owns a 3.00 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with a 7.2 K/9 over 15 innings in his last three outings, and he'll look to continue his productive run as the Athletics attempt to extend their six-game win streak Tuesday.
