Wagner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. With southpaw Tyler Anderson on the hill for the Angels, Wagner will hit the bench Sunday. The 26-year-old utility player has a clear path to playing time against right-handed pitching through the All-Star break, and Wagner had started five of the past six games. Andres Gimenez (ankle) landing on the injured list Sunday will create even more opportunities on the infield, although Davis Schneider and Leo Jimenez will also be in the mix at the keystone.... Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Recalled by Toronto
The Blue Jays recalled Wagner from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. Wagner made Toronto's Opening Day roster but was optioned to Triple-A in late April after Daulton Varsho (hamstring) returned from the 10-day injured list. Wagner spent nearly a month on Buffalo's 7-day IL due to a foot injury but has gone 11-for-41 (.268) with one steal, four doubles, one home run and six RBI since being reinstated from the IL in mid-June. The Blue Jays optioned Alan Roden to Buffalo in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Makes return to Triple-A lineup
Wagner (foot) went 3-for-10 with three doubles, one RBI and one run in two games for Triple-A Buffalo since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Friday. Before rejoining Buffalo over weekend, Wagner hadn't played for the Blue Jays' top affiliate since May 10 after fouling a ball off of his foot. The 26-year-old infielder was productive in his return to the Buffalo lineup and should continue to handle an everyday role at Triple-A with the hope of performing well enough to earn another look in the big leagues.... Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Lands on minor-league IL
Wagner (foot) was placed on Triple-A Buffalo's 7-day injured list Saturday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Wagner hasn't played since May 10 due to foot soreness, though recent reports suggested he could return soon. Instead, the 26-year-old will sit for at least another week in order to give the ailing foot additional rest. Wagner began the season with the big-league club but was sent down to Triple-A in late April after posting a meager .504 OPS over 68 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Out at Triple-A with sore foot
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Wagner has been sidelined recently at Triple-A Buffalo after fouling a ball off his foot, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Wagner hasn't played since Saturday but is expected back in action soon, per Schneider. The infielder is 8-for-30 with two home run in eight games with Buffalo since being optioned there in late April.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Optioned to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Wagner to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. Wagner had seen his playing time dip recently, and he will lose his roster spot upon Daulton Varsho's (shoulder) return from the injured list. With Wagner out of the way, Ernie Clement should have a stronger grip on the third-base job.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Sitting against righty again
Wagner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. The lefty-hitting Wagner is off to a 3-for-28 start to the plate in April, and the ongoing slump has started to cost him some playing time. He'll be on the bench for the second time in the Blue Jays' last three matchups versus right-handers, with Ernie Clement getting the nod at third base as Atlanta sends Spencer Strider to the mound.... Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Absent from lineup
Wagner is out of the lineup for Monday's game versus Atlanta. It's the first time this season that Wagner is not in the lineup against a right-handed pitcher. Ernie Clement will handle third base and bat fifth versus Atlanta hurler Grant Holmes.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Out against lefty
Wagner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Wagner's streak of four consecutive starts will come to an end as the left-handed-hitting infielder heads to the bench while the Orioles send southpaw Cade Povich to the mound. Ernie Clement will step in for Wagner at third base and bat seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Out against lefty
Wagner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. Wagner will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed hitter Alan Roden while the Mets send southpaw David Peterson to the bump. Ernie Clement will replace Wagner at third base and bat sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Knee scope on tap
Wagner will have his left knee scoped Thursday and is expected to be sidelined from baseball activities for about a month, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old was placed on the 60-day injured list Tuesday due to knee inflammation, and he'll undergo the procedure to address the issue. Wagner should have enough recovery time to be healthy for the start of spring training. He played well in his first taste of the majors this year and had a .305/.337/.451 slash line with two homers and 11 RBI in 24 games.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Placed on 60-day IL
The Blue Jays placed Wagner on the 60-day injured list Tuesday due to left knee inflammation. Wagner's knee injury could help explain why he hasn't played in a game since Friday, and his move to the 60-day IL will officially put an early end to his season. The 26-year-old infielder will finish 2024 with a solid .305/.337/.451 slash line alongside two homers and 11 RBI through 24 games in the majors. In corresponding roster moves, Bo Bichette (calf) was activated from the 10-day IL, and Nick Robertson was claimed off waivers from the Angels (and optioned to Triple-A Buffalo) to fill the open 40-man spot.... Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Not in Thursday's lineup
Wagner is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Boston. It's right-hander Kutter Crawford on the bump for the Red Sox, but the left-handed hitting Wagner will begin this one on the bench. Leo Jimenez is getting the call at second base for the Blue Jays.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Not in Saturday's lineup
Wagner isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels. Wagner has slashed .344/.364/.438 with five RBI through the first 10 games of his MLB career. He'll get a chance to rest Saturday, opening up second base for Davis Schneider.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Out of Sunday's lineup
Wagner is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs. Wagner has gone 8-for-15 with three doubles and three RBI in four games since being called up for his MLB debut Monday, but he'll sit Sunday as lefty Shota Imanaga takes the mound for Chicago. Spencer Horwitz will cover the keystone while Alejandro Kirk receives a turn at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Out of Wednesday's lineup
Wagner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. Wagner has gone 5-for-8 with three doubles, three RBI and a run in his first two MLB games this season, but he'll take a seat for Wednesday's series finale in Anaheim. Addison Barger will enter the lineup in Wagner's place against Angels lefty Tyler Anderson.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Three hits in debut
Wagner went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI single and a run scored during Monday's 4-2 win over the Angels. Wagner wasn't the featured piece of the three-player return package from Houston for Yusei Kikuchi, but he's been outstanding since joining the Blue Jays organization. He logged a 1.116 OPS in 31 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo before earning the call up Monday. He remained red-hot despite the making the leap to MLB, logging a double in his first big-league at bat as part of a three-hit day. The left-hander drew the start at second base Monday but could also see action at third base moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Will Wagner: Back in action for Corpus Christi
Wagner (wrist) returned from Double-A Corpus Christi's 7-day injured list Friday and has gone 3-for-8 with one double, two walks, two RBI, two runs and one stolen base in his first two games since being activated. Wagner picked up starts at second base and hit out of the No. 5 spot in both games, his first action with Corpus Christi since May 25. After completing his recovery from right wrist surgery, Wagner began a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League on July 21 and posted an .852 OPS in seven games at the rookie ball level before being activated.... Astros' Will Wagner: Requires hamate surgery
Wagner underwent surgery Friday to remove the hook of the hamate bone in his right hand, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Wagner was shut down earlier this week at Double-A Corpus Christi due to what was originally described as right wrist discomfort, and further testing revealed the need for a surgical procedure on his hamate bone. The 24-year-old infielder could be in recovery mode for close to two months.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Will Wagner: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Wagner was reassigned to minor league camp Saturday by the Astros, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Wagner went 4-for-10 in his time with the Astros while picking up three RBI, and is considered one of the better prospects in the Houston system. The son of former Houston stopper Billy Wagner, Will is likely to open the season at the higher levels of the minors, and he has an outside chance of making his debut with the Astros in 2023....
