The Yankees have faced left-handed starters for both matchups with the Mets, which may be the primary reason the lefty-hitting Grisham has been out of the lineup. Grisham could occupy the larger side of a de facto platoon with the right-handed-hitting J.D. Davis for the final open spot in the New York lineup while Stanton is on the shelf.

Grisham signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Yankees on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Grisham was acquired by the Yankees this offseason in the Juan Soto trade. Grisham is likely to serve as the team's fourth outfielder to begin 2024, though he could get some extra appearances late in games due to his strong defense.
The Padres traded Grisham and Juan Soto to the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for Kyle Higashioka, Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Grisham finished with 13 homers and 50 RBI last year, but he has hit below .200 in each of his last two seasons. His recent performance combined with the presence of Aaron Judge, Alex Verdugo and now Juan Soto in New York's outfield almost certainly locks Grisham into a reserve role with the Yankees in 2024.
Grisham is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.
Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat eighth for the Padres, with left-hander Kyle Harrison toeing the slab in San Francisco. The left-handed-hitting Grisham has gone 0-for-20 with five walks and six strikeouts over his last nine games.
