What a wild week it was in college hoops. Five top-10 teams fell over the past week, and for the first time in history Duke and North Carolina lost by double digits as top-10 teams on the same day. They were two of the biggest losers from Saturday's crazy New Years Eve slate. As a result, the top-10 of the rankings received a makeover, with No. 1 Villanova being the only team in the top 5 that remained the same.

Below is the updated AP Top 25. As always, we will highlight three takeaways from the latest standings at the bottom of the polls.

Takeaways

1. Villanova just keeps acing its tests.

Many believed Villanova's winning streak might come to an end this weekend. On the road against a gritty Creighton team, the Wildcats handled their business behind their star Josh Hart. The win was the 38th for the Wildcats in the 2016 calendar year. No team has ever done that.

Big East play is officially in swing. The Wildcats will be tested with a showdown on the road against Butler on Wednesday and on Jan. 29 in a non-conference game at home against Virginia. But until they slip up, they will be the No. 1 for the foreseeable future.

2. Oregon is rounding back into shape.

Preseason top-5 Oregon stumbled out of the gate to open the season. The Ducks fell to Baylor on the road, then suffered a bad loss to Georgetown in the Maui Invitational. Since then, they are looking like the team many projected in the preseason.

Dillon Brooks is looking more comfortable after his injury that sidelined him for a few games to start the season, and the team on the whole is playing with a lot of confidence. Especially after knocking off then-No. 2 UCLA on it's home floor. The Ducks' 11-game win streak might get crazy, too. They are likely to be favored in the next nine games.

3. Duke may go lower before it bounces back.

Huge news out of Duke on Monday came that coach Mike Krzyzewski will be out for at least the next month as he undergoes and recovers from an anticipated back surgery starting Jan. 6. So he will coach on Wednesday against Georgia Tech then step away.

No, he doesn't play. But having a Hall-of-Fame coach step away for any period of time no matter the program is a tough blow.

With Duke losing to Virginia Tech on Saturday, Grayson Allen's recent suspension and its injuries playing major factors this season for the Blue Devils, the news that Coach K will be out is possibly the biggest blow of them all.
