Antoine Vermette: Announces retirement
Vermette will hang up his skates following a 14-year NHL career, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Vermette hasn't played at all this season, so his retirement announcement shouldn't come as a surprise. The center played 1,046 games for Arizona, Ottawa, Columbus, Anaheim and Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup with the latter in 2015. Over his career, the Quebec native racked up 228 goals (31 game-winning), 287 assists and 622 PIM.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Overlooked in second half of season
Vermette completed his 14th NHL season in 2017-18, with the center adding 16 points and a minus-5 rating through 64 regular-season games for the Ducks.
All of Vermette's offensive contributions took place in the first half of the season, and he could often be spotted in the press box in 2018. The journeyman did see the ice for the first two games against the Sharks in the conference quarterfinals, but he only garnered 6:11 of average ice time over two scoreless appearances. Turning 36 years old July 20, Vermette is scheduled to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Sitting regularly in March
Vermette was a healthy scratch for the seventh time in March during Sunday's 4-2 win over the Devils.
The veteran center has dipped below Derek Grant on the depth chart and appears likely to continue watching from the press box most nights. Two of the past three games he's drawn into have also been in a back-to-back spot, so that might be a trend to watch for moving forward. However, Vermette has also logged less than 10 minutes of ice in each of those past three outings, so he's not a serviceable fantasy option at this stage of the season.

Vermette received just 8:52 of ice time during Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over Winnipeg.
The veteran center has now gone nine games without a point and has seen his minutes steadily decline. With the Ducks healthy for the first time all season, he's slotted back into a depth role. It definitely makes Anaheim more difficult to play against, but Vermette is off the fantasy grid in the majority of settings unless he's receiving more consistent ice time.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Responds with three points after promotion
A game after playing a season-low 9:25, Vermette played over 20 minutes on the team's top line and scored a goal and two assists in a win Sunday against Arizona.
Vermette played with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell and assisted on both of Rakell's goals before adding an empty netter to seal a 5-2 win. This is the fourth time this season Vermette has logged over 20 minutes, even though his ice time has declined since Ryan Kesler returned to the lineup. However, it seems as though the Ducks have found a new combination for their top line -- for now, at least -- and if Vermette sticks with Getzlaf, an elite playmaker, he'll be able to collect even more points. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on Vermette if he stays on the top line.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Logs season-low 9:25 of ice Friday
Vermette received just 9:25 of ice time during Friday's 2-1 win over Calgary.
This was the veteran's lowest TOI total of the campaign, and it's important to note that he's seen a significant decline in minutes in consecutive games with Ryan Kelser back in the lineup. Vermette is currently behind Ryan Getzlaf, Kesler and Adam Henrique on the depth chart, so the 35-year-old pivot's fantasy stock is currently at an all-time low. Additionally, with just six goals and six assists through 39 games this season, Vermette's value was already way down.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Breaks long drought in win
Vermette came through with two goals in a 3-2 win over St. Louis on Wednesday.
The two goals against the Blues marked the first time Vermette had scored since Nov. 3 against Nashville. It'd be nice to believe fantasy owners could trust him, but with just nine points in 25 games and two coming in this one, the reality is that owners will need to see a lot more consistent play from Vermette before he belongs on a roster.

Vermette has just a single goal and assist through his past 12 games.
Despite logging 16:20 of ice time with 1:40 on the power play during the 12-game stretch, Vermette has struggled to generate offense. His role is defensively tilted with 40.2 percent of his five-on-five shifts beginning in his own zone. Additionally, Vermette has failed to register a power-play point all season. At this stage of the game, it's difficult to rely on the veteran in the majority of fantasy settings.

Vermette's tallied a modest six points (three goals, three assists) in 13 games this season, though his minus-5 rating is a bit of an eyesore for fantasy owners counting that stat. You're not likely to brag to your buds about owning the 35-year-old pivot, but he can get it done offensively every now and then.

The top-six, veteran pivot has one goal, a pair of helpers and four PIM over his last two contests. While Vermette is averaging 2:25 of power-play ice time, he's still looking for his first point with the man advantage. All things considered, he's a steady but unspectacular fantasy option. It's definitely worth noting that his value will likely take a hit once Ryan Getzlaf (lower body) returns to action.

Vermette lit the lamp Saturday, as the Ducks suffered a 3-2 home loss to the Flyers.
The veteran pivot patiently waited for Ondrej Kase to dig the puck out from the side boards and then Vermette fired one home from the left circle. He scored only nine times in 72 games last season, but did add 19 helpers over that same span.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Dishes twice in win
Vermette collected a pair of assists in a 4-1 win over Vancouver on Tuesday.
The points were his first in the eight contests since returning from a 10-game suspension for slashing an official back on Feb. 14. Vermette now has 24 points in 66 games in his first season in Anaheim, which means he's likely to finish with his lowest total in a full campaign since 2011-12 with Columbus.

Vermette has served his 10-game suspension and will be eligible to rejoin the lineup Sunday against the Capitals, Ducks color analyst Dan Wood reports.
Vermette was on the ice for Sunday's morning skate alongside Nick Ritchie (neck) and Corey Perry, potentially positioning him for that line during the evening's contest. The veteran forward hasn't provided a high rate of scoring this season for Anaheim, but should provide a bit of a boost to the lineup Sunday.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Ten-game suspension upheld
Vermette's 10-game suspension for slashing an official was upheld by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Vermette and the NHLPA had been lobbying for a reduced suspension for the centerman, but Bettman reportedly ruled that the contact made with linesman Shandor Alphonso fit under a Category 2 ruling that justifies the assessment of a 10-game ban for "physical abuse of official foul without intent to injure." Vermette will miss his fifth game Saturday due to the suspension and now won't be eligible to return until March 12.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette: Suspension shortened
Vermette's suspension for contact with an official was cut to five games Friday, Doug Maclean of Sportsnet reports.
Vermette should certainly consider this a win after a fairly blatant slash to the leg of an official originally earned him a 10-game suspension. The shortened ban will result in the 34-year-old missing the rest of the Ducks' February contests, but he can now return to action March 3 against Toronto. In the interim, Ondrej Kase will slide up to the top line alongside Ryan Getzlaf.
