  • Mikhail Grabovski: Announces retirment

Grabovski (concussion) announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday.

Unfortunately this news doesn't come as a surprise, as Grabovski hasn't suited up for an NHL contest since 2015-16 due to his ongoing battle with concussion symptoms. The 35-year-old German did, however, enjoy a long NHL career that spanned over 10 seasons and four different teams during which he racked up 125 goals and 296 points in 534 appearances.

  • Mikhail Grabovski: Will be UFA on Sunday

Grabovski (concussion) will officially be an unrestricted free agent Sunday.

The Golden Knights acquired Grabovski and his $5 million cap hit from the Islanders last season along with a first-round (15th overall) draft pick in 2017. Vegas took defenseman Erik Brannstrom with that pick. There's a chance that Grabovski could officially retire soon; after all, he hasn't played since the 2015-16 campaign due to his devastating injury.

  • Golden Knights' Mikhail Grabovski: Shipped to Vegas in salary dump

Grabovski (concussion) was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

Grabovski, who carries a $5 million dollar cap hit for next season, missed all of the 2016-17 season due to concussion issues. The Islanders are sending a boatload of assets to Vegas, including their first-round pick (15th overall) in Friday's entry draft. Grabovski's NHL career is likely over.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Could be headed to the Golden Knights

Grabovski (concussion) could be part of a trade that would send him to the Golden Knights, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Grabovski missed all of last season due to the concussion and some believe that his career has ended, as he has still yet to be cleared to play. This trade would likely also include the Islanders' first-round pick in this year's draft, which is considered to be rather weak, so the Isles seem to be more than willing to part with the pick in exchange for cap relief.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Looking to put concussion issues behind him

Grabovski (concussion) missed the entire 2016-17 campaign, but he remains hopeful that he will get past his injury, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

The German-born pivot reportedly resumed isolated skates during the second half of this season, so there still may be light at the end of the tunnel. When you consider that the 33-year-old posted 40-plus points in three of five campaigns with the Maple Leafs between 2009-13, it might be worth taking a flier on Grabovski in deeper fantasy drafts this fall. Even if he's a shell of his former self upon returning, the cost to get him is likely to be extremely low.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Hopes to play next season

Grabovski (concussion) is expected to see a specialist in the near future with the hope of being cleared to play next season, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

After this season Grabovski will only have one year left on his contract. He would have to be cleared in order for the Islanders to buy him out or expose him to the expansion draft. Grabovski has been a bust since signing with the Isles as he has suffered multiple concussions. If he is cleared to play and the Isles don't buy him out he could end up as the third line center next season or in the AHL.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Fails physical, earned non-roster injury tag

Grabovski (concussion) failed his physical and is officially listed as injured non roster.

Grabovski's salary still counts toward the cap but he will continue to sit as he recovers from a concussion dating back to last season. The issue is certainly concerning given the length of recovery up to this point, so it may be best to monitor the centerman throughout camp if considering him in fantasy leagues.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Lands on IR

Grabovski (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Monday, The Score reports.

Grabovski's career has been marred by injuries, as he's barely averaged 53 games in 10 years of service time between the Habs, Leafs, Capitals and Islanders. Specifically, the 32-year-old skater from East Germany has sustained three concussions over the past two campaigns, so it's no surprise to learn that he failed to obtain medical clearance for training camp with the Isles. It's a shame that injuries are ruining Grabovski's career; he's a proven playmaker with three seasons of 45-plus points on his resume.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Not medically cleared for camp

Grabovski (concussion) has not been medically cleared for training camp, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Grabovski has suffered three concussions over the past two seasons, and is still dealing with symptoms stemming from those injuries ahead of the 2016-17 campaign. The 32-year-old forward is clearly still a long way from returning to game action, as he has yet to be cleared to resume skating, and may not be able to return to practice until after the Islanders' regular-season schedule gets underway Oct. 13 against the Rangers. Owners keeping an eye on Grabovski's health can expect an update on the German forward's status once he's cleared to skate.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Future uncertain

Grabovski (concussion) may not play another game for the Islanders, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Grabovski has now missed significant portions of the last two seasons due to concussions. Even if he reports to training camp in September medically cleared and ready to play, he may have a difficult time cracking the starting lineup and could also be a candidate to be sent to the AHL so that the team could remove his $5 million salary from the cap.

  • Islanders' Mikhail Grabovski: Has stopped skating

Grabovkski (concussion) has stopped skating, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

This would seem to indicate that Grabovski has suffered additional concussion symptoms as he was skating earlier this week. His loss shouldn't be a major one for the Islanders as he has only scored 18 goals in 109 games for New York.
