Watch as Henrik Lundqvist has to make a save on teammate Brad Richards

Henrik Lundqvist has to make a lot of saves every night, but this is one of the first times he had to make one on a shot that came from one of his teammates.

The New York Rangers have asked Henrik Lundqvist to stop a lot of shots this season.

Just about all of them have come from members of the opposing team, which I guess is a good thing. It's at least what you would expect.

During the third period of their 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, he was in the uncomfortable position of having to make a save on a shot that came off the stick of his own teammate, center Brad Richards.

It wasn't exactly an easy save, either.



Of course, Richards wasn't intentionally trying to shoot at his own goalie. His objective here was obviously to clear the puck around the boards. He simply missed and nearly scored what would have been a tie-breaking goal at the absolute worst possible time.

Richards finished the game with four shots on goal (the right goal) but none of them were the type of quality scoring chance this one was. Even if it was for the wrong team.

Lundqvist would eventually give up a goal to Ryan Carter to break the tie with less than five minutes to play. The Devils added an empty-netter thanks to Zach Parise.
