The 49ers placed Hargrave (triceps) on injured reserve Saturday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Hargrave partially tore his triceps during the 49ers' Week 3 loss to the Rams, and head coach Kyle Shanahan relayed Monday that the injury likely keep the veteran defensive tackle out for the rest of the regular season, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. With Hargrave sidelined, Jordan Elliott is set to serve as San Francisco's starting defensive tackle alongside Maliek Collins, though Elliot is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots after injuring his foot during Thursday's practice.

49ers' Javon Hargrave: Likely done for season
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Hargrave is dealing with a partially torn right tricep and will likely miss the rest of the season, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Hargrave sustained the injury in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Rams, and though the team was initially optimistic that the issue was a minor one, further testing revealed a more serious concern that will likely require season-ending surgery. In the second season of a four-year, $84 million deal, Hargrave will represent a major loss for the San Francisco defensive front. After logging 44 tackles and seven sacks in his first season with the 49ers in 2023, Hargrave will end his 2024 campaign with seven stops (four solo) and one sack over three contests.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said it might just be a contusion, per Branch. Hargrave recorded three tackles, including a sack, during the defeat. The defensive tackle made four stops across the 49ers' first two contests.

49ers' Javon Hargrave: On field at training camp
Hargrave (thumb) was photographed practicing at the start of 49ers training camp.
Hargrave appears fully recovered from the torn ligament in his left thumb that he dealt with down the stretch in 2023. The 31-year-old defensive tackle looks fully on track to reprise his starting role up front for San Francisco. In fantasy leagues that require starting DTs, Hargrave is in the mix as an IDP option, having tallied 44 tackles (25 solo), including 7.0 sacks, and two passes defensed across 16 regular-season appearances in 2023.
